I started learning watercolor a little over a month ago, so I'm a just beginner. Big blank pages are very intimidating to me, so last night I decided to cut my Arches paper for bookmarks and love for manageable that felt! Also liked how simple it was to paint cherries! This whole thing took me about 30 minutes to paint and I love how it turned out!

Now my question is: how do I protect it? Should I laminate it?

The background was surprisingly hard. This was my third try. Still not thrilled with it, but it works.

My ability to paint things that look like real things is limited.. I can’t draw.. never could. So I do these, which I thoroughly enjoy doing.

Definitely not my favorite but it’s one of my first times drawing something that is not a bird so I’ll let it slide lol. I’m still new to watercolor but I’m trying to learn by drawing animals I find interesting.

I’m actually happy with how the bird itself came out even if the background is a little wonky, I really wanted to make a toucan of some sort and I like how this one turned out.

I'm a single dad that works a strange schedule. I can occasionally throw in a quick watercolor session from time to time. I like to paint post card sized paintings. I've never posted anything and I just wanted to show my paintings. I mostly paint for a bit of quietness and the feeling of producing something hopefully beautiful. What do you think?

I followed a tutorial for this one. I'm happy with how it turned out. Trying to be embrace the flow edges. I enjoyed this one.

I'm new to watercolor. I bought a watercolor kit in a hobby store on a whim last month and with the help of Instagram and YouTube tutorials, I started painting. I realized how bad the quality was and ended up buying Winsor and Newton Cotman kit (12 colors) and Strathmore paper on Amazon. I really like them. But I want more colors and also the pigmentation in professional colors look so much deeper. If I were to buy a professional watercolor set, not knowing how long this interest of mine will last, what set would you recommend? I would love to have a little more than 12 colors and also want it to be easy on the pocket.

What other basics do I need? I have a decent set of paintbrushes and painters tape. What else would I need? I keep seeing white gouache being mentioned in tutorials. And do I need black paint or can I just make it using whatever colors I have. And masking paint - would you also suggest what’s a good brand to buy and does it need a special tool for application?

Self portrait - Playing around with watercolours, 14x14cm 300gsm Strathmore paper

Tomorrow is my birthday, and I treat myself with a new watercolor set, a sketchbook and some graphite pencils. A friend from the office is giving me some lessons to improve my skills. Today I painted a Cheems for practice.

After finishing this painting, I googled Mediterranean beach with red sand and it showed me images of Santorini Red Beach, hence the title.

I took up watercolor painting last month.
