Benny is my obsessive guard dog 😂 He even opened my glass door to try to get at an Amazon driver and the dude took off running with my package. I felt SO BAD. I sent him a gift through Amazon haha

We live in a quite small city but the houses are close together so we get a lot of noise. Our other dog is a pit mix, with a little aussie, so he gets riled up too but his face definitely says 'I feel like I need to make a lot of noise because that is what brother does but I am not sure why'. He doesn't howl but has a really deep whine/grunt when he is frustrated.

We are on vacation right now and it is strange not having various barks and howls and sighs and grunts.

Help my parents name their new pup!!
 in  r/AussieDoodle  1d ago

I love people names for pets. My AD is Arnie and our other pets are Ollie, Izzy, and Polly.

So my suggestions: Wallace/Wally (close to Walnut), Charlie, Archie, Winston, Arthur/Artie.

Also, Pepper.

Ours is the exact same. There are so many conversations with him- 'Arnie. We also heard the doorbell.', 'Arnie, that is next door', 'Thanks Arnie, we aren't worried about that noise outside so we can just calm down.'

We tell people that he has made himself supervisor of the other pets and self-appointed leader of a neighborhood watch. He has an adorable howl when he thinks we aren't taking him seriously.

Let's separate the opinions! Which one do you prefer?

The Lost World. Absolutely. I only watch JP3 as part of the series.

Europeans of Reddit, How do you feel about American tourists nowadays?
 in  r/AskReddit  2d ago

Exactly this. I am on vacation now and am more apologetic than usual for being American. I try to be mindful and be quieter and less chatty when traveling to try to not be outed as an American before my accent is heard.

Anyway I have apologized a few times already to people for the absolute shitshow that is the US right now. The best response was this kind woman who sort of tilted her head and gave me a kinda sympathetic 'well yeah'.

I am in London now and a museum worker was telling us about some renovation work that was happening. He encouraged us to come back to see it finished, this summer. I told him exactly that- my husband and I are lucky to work full-time and to earn annual leave, but this 2 week vacation will deplete basically all of it. And we saved for 2.5 years to be able to travel at all. He was incredibly kind so I also said that we'd be sure to check it out if we make it back again.

BRANT Entitled Child at Restaurant

I am on vacation with my husband. We were at dinner, sitting on the patio in the fresh air and talking about how glad we are to not have children. Seriously. We have friends with kids and were talking about how cool it is that we can travel.

The universe was listening and decided to punish us. We hear this screaming and suddenly the table next to us is occupied by two adults and a young girl throwing an absolute shit fit. Her issue? She wanted to sit somewhere else. Specifically these pods that were installed during the pandemic so that people could eat out with their household but not be in open space, even outside. These are reserved months out and I think have a required minimum amount spent. Like over £150 I think. Basically they are for celebrations, not 'kid wants to sit in this dome'.

We had finished our dinner and were working on dessert. This kid- maybe 7 or 8- cries and yells for a bit and goes inside to the restroom. I am facing towards the interior of the restaurant and we are next to the entrance. I hear the dad/stepdad/mum's partner saying that the kid can't get her way all the time and they had just arrived and she is already acting up. The mum is distraught that her precious child has to sit at a table like 99% of the other guests.

I see the little girl walking towards the hostess stand, walk between a couple staff behind the stand and start grabbing for something. The startled staff hand her what she was reaching for- a coloring page. They hand her crayons and she comes back outside.

She shows them to her mum who explains that the page shows a nearby landmark, and points to it. Well, the view at the table isn't good enough for this little artist. She starts walking towards the pods again, with her mother in her wake. One is empty at this time so they grab one of the staff- who had been there for the coloring page nonsense- and presumably ask if the kid could color in the dome.

The answer is, of course, no.

We are from the US and are unaccustomed to lingering over meals. We are generally patient though. Sensing another meltdown we just go inside to ask for our bill and to pay.

Our walk to the hotel was just talking about the horrible entitled kid, the defeated guy with them, the bewildered restaurant staff that I am sure had a hell of a time with them... they hadn't even managed to order drinks yet!

This is just one moment of several already in this vacation that reinforce how happy I am to be childfree and how grateful I am to have found someone who is also childfree.

Do you have any favorite botanical gardens? I’m always looking to add more to my list of places to visit.
 in  r/travel  5d ago

I came to say Kew. Favorite place in London.

Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh PA is really nice, in my opinion.

And I haven't been yet but I have heard that Longwood Gardens in Philly is incredible.

What part from the Michael Crichton Novels terrified you the most?
 in  r/JurassicPark  5d ago

In the Lost World, basically the entire section where Arby is in the cage. The description of the drive to follow it and then trying to escape the raptors as they run out of gas.

Extending working from home after total hysterectomy and everything removed - UK
 in  r/hysterectomy  5d ago

You should definitely adk!

I had a hybrid schedule when I had my surgery. After my initial medical leave I applied for a modified schedule of full-time telework for an additional 4 weeks.

I am in the states, so this was handled as an accommodation request.

Anyway, part of my justification for the request was that I would be unable to respond quickly in an emergency and that this could impact other's safety. Our building is also not compliant with ADA requirements , so there are no automatic doors or doors with buttons to open. So clenching abdominal muscles to pull open a door was an issue.

What is everyone using for in between the nesting bowls when you display them?
 in  r/Pyrex_Love  5d ago

I buy stands from a store called SL Shoppe on Etsy. They have a regular site too. I really like the stands for the divided casseroles- it saves room to not use the lids for stacking.

I used bags of beans or rice before, so it was more stable. I don't trust my ability to stack, haha.

Lighthearted rant: I never get cake in the vegetarian airplane meals.
 in  r/travel  11d ago

I didn't request vegetarian for my next trip for this reason! I used to get vegetarian and was always saddened by missing out on the nice dessert. And I feel like my husband would get a white dinner roll with his standard meal and I'd get wheat or some seeded thing for vegetarian? I don't eat pork and eat very little meat otherwise, very infrequently. I figured I'd just get the standard meal and ignore the main bit if necessary.

What's small thing do poor people notice in middle class houses, that middle class people have no idea marks them as middle class?
 in  r/AskReddit  22d ago

For many years, our back to school shopping was done at Hills or K-Mart on layaway. So you'd pick out your clothes in like June and then go get them before school started. I can picture the little conveyor belt bringing them into the pick-up area from the back. You'd have forgotten what you got exactly, so it was a little surprise.

My mum had a list of what we'd get- like two pairs of pants, so many tops, etc. And I think it kind of created an early mindset of pieces working for multiple outfits- like a capsule wardrobe. I still don't like buying things that can't be worn in multiple ways.

“Tearing like birth” during hysterectomy
 in  r/hysterectomy  Mar 06 '25

That is my question too. I had a fibroid and my uterus was too large to 'deliver' so I ended up having an abdominal incision as well to remove it that way. My doctor said she tried to remove it through the vagina and it was too large to come out. I can't imagine how long the doctor must have tried to pull it out, or how forcefully, to cause a tear like that. That is really frightening!

Apple is my favorite! When we had a shared island my husband gave her ski googles and she would never take them off, haha!

When does my energizer bunny start to calm down?😩
 in  r/AussieDoodle  Mar 05 '25

I did this, hahaha. When ours starting calming down a bit I decided he needed a playmate. So we adopted a pit mix. We wanted to avoid another young dog but once we met him we couldn't say no. He turned out even younger than they estimated. Our AD is now 6 years old and he thinks his main job is to supervise his brother. So he never rests because he is always on duty! His brother turns 3 later this month and is way more chill than him, hahaha.

What 'nepo baby' do you think has immense / genuine talent? Do you think they'd be as successful had they been born outside the limelight?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 03 '25

And Brian Gleeson too! Brian, Domhnall, and Brendan Gleeson are all in Frank of Ireland and it is such a good show.
