'The NHS can't tell me where my job will be'

Optometry students are in a similar position. Was talking to a professor at Bradford and he was saying he expects most of his graduates this year to be moved to Kent, Cornwall or North Wales but they still didn't know.

Working on a Sunday is a strategic move that needs a poll

The authors a consultant so I wouldn't be surprised if respondents got a message touting their services 😂

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve been ID’d for?
 in  r/AskUK  3d ago

Alcohol free cider.

I was 43 and my hairs white.

Proposed Supertram Expansion (let's pretend it's still April 1st)
 in  r/sheffield  6d ago

If they ever did do this, probably worth spurring the yellow at meadowhall so it goes via platform 4 on tram-train up to Chapeltown.

With the new flight model it's probably a bit closer to what you'd read in a sci-fi book - you come in fast, you have a limited engagement window, you fly past each other at speed, turn round and go again. Depending on your thrusters you'll be able to turn faster and ships have a variation on how much they drift accordingly. Turrets are great in head on encounters but if something's moving perpendicular to you that transverse velocity brings turret tracking speed into the mix and some just aren't quick enough to lead a target properly.

new Dunkin drink .... 🥺

Best case, you have a really interesting stomach for a day or two while you're chained to the toilet thanks to a laxative effect.

Worst case, you're od'ing on sertraline and having some really interesting side effects.

What's the weirdest reason you've heard a train/plane/bus be cancelled or delayed for?
 in  r/AskUK  6d ago

Pheasants are a nightmare. Once worked at a college where they nest and the amount of screaming you'd hear during the day in mating season was borderline unbearable at times. It'd be like being at a boyband concert in the late 90's/early 00's.

Yeah, I was meant to fly to Sweden the weekend after that eruption. Got there by virtue of a change in wind direction moving the ash cloud but it was definitely a disruptive one.

See, I always thought that one was a bit odd until I asked a rail engineer why.

They get crushed under the wheels and form a lubricant layer on the top bit of the track which causes the wheels to not keep a steady contact with the track so a train wheel might slip off or worse, derail. It's like black ice and an oil spill for them.

"Sorry, the driver finds this bit of track boring and won't go on it" would definitely get a response like.

Thought I'd heard the vast majority - sheep on the line, train late leaving the depot, etc. Yesterday set a new peak - "bag on the overhead line between York & Doncaster" so it's got me curious what everyone's peak reason is.

Probably both - food hall on ground + 1, flats above it

Sheffield Train Station 🚉 Love it!
 in  r/sheffield  8d ago

Midlands a wonderfully odd station in that regard. It was never built for the amount of traffic it has now so bits have been tacked on over time. Arguably Victoria was the grander of the two stations but the only remnants of that are the bits round the Crowne Plaza.

How are you going to enjoy the wall to wall sunshine 🌞?
 in  r/CasualUK  9d ago

Got one office in the shade on the north side of a building and one on the south side in another. So freezing to death one day, roasting the other probably.

Who would you want to play in the playoffs?
 in  r/Championship  9d ago

Leeds in the semi, West Brom in the final if only to see Mogga be both happy & sad for the result whichever way it goes.

Finn Jones wants to return as Iron Fist in the MCU: “I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it…give me a f*cking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready, and I wanna prove people wrong.”
 in  r/marvelstudios  9d ago

The frustrating thing with Iron Fist was the second season made a good go of fixing the problems from Season 1. Just so happened that Netflix & Disney did their thing and stopped it before it hit its stride.

Who are players and managers so bad for your club that the mere mention of them makes you like this?
 in  r/Championship  10d ago

Garry Monk, Gordon Strachan. Not necessarily in that order.

NAO reveals enormity of T Level take-up failure
 in  r/ukpolitics  11d ago

If only. This was the Great Idea of the previous government where they've spent millions on equipping colleges to do these things and students just haven't gone onto them.

Travel Help Please!
 in  r/sheffield  13d ago

The only thing with the City College site is they can't guarantee parking. I had someone go for a meeting on Monday, they ended up parking at Meadowhall Park & Ride and travelling in that way. Takes 8 minutes on a train, there's two different platforms at Meadowhall you can go from.
