Location | Renting Who is responsible for replacing the oven element?

Upvotes

I have an older electic oven, the main element for the oven burnt out the other day and did a bit of minor welding inside my kitchen... pretty cool but am I supposed to fix it or is it my landlord's responsibility?

It doesn't seem very expensive or complicated to figure it out but I don't wanna buy something that I don't have to. My landlord is chill and lives below me, but I have no idea if she personally knows what to do...

I didn't know this was possible

That's nuts but that pan is a little in the thin side for cast iron... because it's brittle

In D.C. today, a massive banner has been unveiled with the names of Palestinians killed by Israel since October 2023.

Then you can expect the violence to worsen over time. If you have decided one group does not deserve rights, or life for that matter, you'll allow anything. This kind of thinking is what caused the holocaust and allowed this mess to exist in the first place.

So, do people born in palestine deserve human rights? Should they ever expect to receive them in any form? Idk, if I were in that situation, I wouldn't have much choice...

Cost of policing Toronto protests related to war in Gaza nears $20 million
 in  r/Toronto_Ontario  1d ago

Ridiculous take. They actually had guns in BC, which is part of why they all got arrested and bank accounts frozen because they literally met the definition of terrorists. All because they were scared of needles. Pat King is serving time on house arrest. He was convicted. If you have access to reddit, you can go read the court filings for yourself.

Anyways, anyone who uses the words "libtard" or "sou cuck" unironically in 2025 is not a serious person.

Wtf is this sub??

Edit: oh right it is the sub that exists only for people who have been banned from r/Toronto because they can't follow rules... hmm

And if you automate your education how do we expect anyone to become an expert when they retire?

Side note, if you so automate all the mundane tasks that doesn't leave entry level opportunities for people to learn either

This sounds like an ad. I don't want to live in a world without experts

Ah literally "rights for me but not for thee"

The convoy literally said they weren't leaving until they got control of the Canadian government. It was literally and attempted coup. Just because they were dumb and failed miserably doesn't change that. They were given over a month to camp out at the capital. Stop

Steel bowl stuck inside cooking pot. Nothing has worked so far. Any idea before the trip to the blacksmith?
 in  r/howto  2d ago

I think you're doing the right thing but there's too much ice it's interfering.... maybe if you did all the same things but only put one ice cube? Or just a little cool water. I think you have so much ice that it's cooling the rim of the pot before it can heat up and move....

But hey maybe they have cold welded together now and have become one with the tea.... perhaps in 10,000 years you'll make some archaeologist very puzzled

"I support your right to free speech and protest as long as I don't have to see or interact with it" means you don't support the right to free speech or protest.

Edit: Also, your solution is to suspend habeus corpus and due process based in the assumption that all protestors are non citizens? Or simply believe the act of protest is enough to suspend your rights as a citizen and be expelled from this country? Wild. I wouldn't be surprised if you also said trudeau was a fascist for doing something about the convoy tailgate party...

The purpose of protest is disruption.

I just don’t get why Hannah did it.

Absolutely! I think she saw it as an incredible career opportunity. My new theory is that she dies because they find out she's been taking notes on them!

338 projections and the ensuing counterproductive calls of strategic voting for liberals
 in  r/canadaleft  3d ago

I agree with Steve Boots' criticism of the NDP though, a big part of the good projections from liberals stem from the fact that the NDP dont even seem to be taking themselves seriously at this point... they're too afraid to say or do anything that seems like actual socialism so they come off as just liberals but nicer? It's not helpful and I don't see a candidate in my riding with a snowballs chance in another party. That's simply the reality of it. Choices are very much limited

Where to find a landlord that prioritizes a long term stable tenant over max revenue?
 in  r/montrealhousing  4d ago

After years of fuckery with big corporations I finally found that exact situation via a lease transfer that was posted on a neighbourhood Facebook group. In my case, my friend saw it and came to see it right away, signed the lease and only then started to work on transferring her existing lease. Risky af but it worked out. A few years later, theh bought a house and transfered the lease to us.

These landlords exist but they're hard to find and getting harder.

Go for top duplexes, that's where I live. In many cases the owner is living below you and is more concerned about peace, quiet, and long term financial stability over profit. But also, it's just one person. If they get financially screwed by some unforeseen thing or if they want to give my place to their kids, who are adults, they can just kick me out. So, there's still a level of uncertainty. It is overall much better but I take a much more active role in maintenance, that for sure

Ensemble Montréal promises to re-evaluate placement of city’s bike paths
 in  r/montreal  4d ago

Oh absolutely, I'm sure it's the one from Oh the Urbanity! , a great channel. I tried to go to one or two myself, years ago and it was kind of just like they depicted. It's still the same. The only people that have the time to waste this much of the politicians time are the same cranky entitled people who can't handle a little change... I swear a tiny bit of inconvenience and people will question the existence of gravity...

 in  r/montreal  4d ago

Absolutely, they repeat the same lies and misinformation over and over and refuse to believe anyone because, in their mind, the result is an inconvenience to them and that's unacceptable...

I agree that PM still has a good chance in my burrough at least, like overall, despite the noise, I've been pretty happy with their management and I think most reasonable people who aren't addicted to Facebook would agree

 in  r/montreal  4d ago

I live in NDG and I've been an active part of the ongoing debate about Terrebonne, though I've distanced myself from it for a while now.

The people against the bike path, for the most part, cannot be satisfied by data, studies, anything at all really. Our burrough spent millions studying and doing surveys about this bike path and got resounding overall approval, but an extremely loud minority of grumpy folks who will never be satisfied by the parking situation lost it. They truly feel it is their right to have free street parking directly in front of every possible destination but refuse to just move to the suburbs. The same 40-50 people with nothing better to do have made it their hobby of choice to harass local politicians about parking. Most of them haven't tried the STM or walking for more than 20 minutes in decades

Edited typos

Also, I want to add this reminds me a lot of something Hank Green said recently about airplane seatbelts and "skeptical hedonism" which is basically the idea that people are always way more likely to interrogate a rule or demand way more evidence for the existence of a thing when they perceive it as an inconvenience to them. Like, we don't often really question why the wing tips swoop up because it doesn't affect us but people often question the need to wear seatbelts in a plane in memes over the years when it has been shown to save lives, like a lot of times!
