I've been watching the series for the first time ( I thought it was finally time to see what the fuss was about after Lynch's passing) and enjoyed it a lot.
Going into FWWM, I really wasn't sure what to expect. All I knew is critically the film had a mixed reception but that fans nowadays liked it a lot.
And well, even though I can fully understand why it was panned, I have to say that as someone who enjoyed the original two seasons, it was an absolutely fantastic watch. Initially every time they threw back to the original series I was giddy; yet as the film went on, I found myself more and more touched and shaken by what was unfolding.
Seeing Laura's life through her point of view, how she felt James and Bobby only really wanted her for body, how she tried to defend Donna, how Jaques and Leo treated her, how Leland abused her, even when he seemingly wasn't 'BOB' (that dirty nails at dinner scene oh my god) and how Sarah was seemingly complicit in it all. Fuck man, it really changes how you view the original series and the Town of Twin Peaks.
And the ending, fuck. Seeing Laura come to terms with her fate and laughing as she passed on, what a hauntingly beautiful scene. I genuinely cannot put into words how it made me feel. I haven't stopped listening to "Voice of Love" from twh ost since.
As someone who's struggled with mental health and abuse in the past, I really appreciated how this film didn't shy away from the truth of Laura's pain and trauma.
David Lynch. What a truly unique and gifted filmmaker. What a loss. (And the fact Sheryl Lee isn't more widely realised for the talent she has us outrageous).

No, you don't. They've changed it within the past few months. I literally drive this route for work most days.
