Bought a misprinted game, what now?
 in  r/boardgames  6d ago

Contact AEG, i would be surprised if they dont offer to at least sell you a set of the 5 units.

If for whatever reason thats a no go, I think you'd be fine without one type of unit, although obviously it'd better to have it.

An AI Image Generator’s Exposed Database Reveals What People Really Used It For | An unsecured database used by a generative AI app revealed prompts and tens of thousands of explicit images—some of which are likely illegal. The company deleted its websites after WIRED reached out
 in  r/technology  6d ago

This stuff is tricky and I'm not a lawyer, but I did go to a lecture on the gray legal areas of technology. Part of that lecture was on why de-aging consenting adult actresses is illegal. It doesn't matter that the product itself was made without harm, it could be seen as supporting the vile acts. Encouraging the collection of such material, and masking the content made with actual harm.

Light vs. medium weight games?
 in  r/boardgames  9d ago

Light games: ticket to ride, incan gold, Jaipur The actual things I can do are limited to very few options, rules fit on just a couple of pages

Medium: bullet, sagrada, war chest Lots of things I can do on my turn, but most of them are explained on a card/board, mostly able to navigate without reaching for rules

Heavy: oath, twilight struggle, gloomhaven Lots of things I can do, lots I have to think about, rules more difficult to hold all in my head, higher degree of ambiguity

How much of your game is focused on evaluating positions vs honing in on a line of attack? Or do you rely on experience to see situations?

Are board games really that hard to understand?
 in  r/boardgames  11d ago

I've never been on this side of things. I have all the games and cant get anyone to play anything more complicated than a party game, meanwhile you actually want to try and play? If you're in nyc by any chance ill be your friend, im pretty sure I have both the games lol.

You have 8 years there, even if you take this job and end up hating it I don't think you'll struggle to move on.

Is LeetCode actually the best way to learn data structures and algorithms?
 in  r/learnprogramming  11d ago

depends on you.

are you the kind of person to just do a leet code question, see if it submits, and move on? You probably need supplementary information from something like a course or youtube. Are you the kind of person to look at the topics of a question, try those things individually (example, make a binary tree and then do binary tree questions, make a heap and then do heap questions, etc) then you can probably get most of the way there just using leetcode questions.

[Game Nerdz] Dorfromantik: The Board Game $22.97 DotD
 in  r/Boardgamedeals  11d ago

Never played the digital game but my wife and I played this on dice tower cruise and it was really fun. My wife isn't super into board games and this was the only game she wanted to play again. If you like tile laying and looking for something chill, I would recommend it!

Do you wash your jeans every time you wear them after riding the subway?
 in  r/AskNYC  11d ago

I've lived here most of my life. The only times I recall my clothes getting dirty from subway travel are from the felt things on the sides of escalators. I've definitely sat on the subway onto something wet/sticky and been like oh fuck no, but those occurences are very rare. Not the seats being gross, that sometimes happens, its just very rare for me to not look before sitting.

Married men of reddit, how often do you wear your wedding ring?
 in  r/AskMen  15d ago

I sleep with it. It comes off very rarely, like if I'm going to be using my hands for labor or touching something gross.

I take it off when I'm mad at my wife, remind myself I made a promise to be the man in her life, and consider how I'm feeling and what a man would do.

Genres suitable for Solo Devs?
 in  r/gamedev  15d ago

Start small. Snake, asteroids, flappy bird, etc. do easy things others have done until you have an idea of how to build an idea. After that, the game only exists and continues to be developed whole you are interested in it, so pick whatever interest you most. Of course, some things will be more feasible than others, like you're not going to make an MMORPG solo, but you could make the things that might be in an MMO.

So many red flags

If innies are people, the state just killed two people instead of one yay

The innie knows they're being punished without knowing why and unable to defend themselves yay

Once you come to, there is no time to protect yourself yay

This will never be used to silence people, disappear people, any other horrid things you can think of.

What Meals Should Every Man Know How to Make?
 in  r/AskMen  15d ago

rice, eggs, beans <-- eggs being an anomaly atm, these are cheap, filling, versatile. I literally lived a summer off of this. if you can make these three things, you can feed yourself in most situations id think.

onions and garlic <--- learn which kinds you like and how you like them prepared. find your favorite garlic prep whether thats mashed or diced or sliced, figure out how long it takes onions to go from opaque to translucent to dark to burnt, same for garlic.

pretty much anything you buy pre prepared can be boosted with onions and garlic, along with the 3 basic filling foods above.

next learn meats. start with ground meat, its very flexible, cheap, and hard to completely mess up. learn how to brown meat and how it makes everything taste better. then get a food thermometer and try chicken thighs or a steak. whatever youre craving.

finally, learn to cook some veggies and potatoes. potatoes will give you a break from rice, and some new options for things like gnocci or mashed potatoes. for veggies, find what you can make easy and like. I learned that a lot of leafy green veggies, i thought i only liked sauteed in a pan with butter or a sauce, i actually find completely fine microwaved and then tossed with salt and butter. I thought i preferred broccoli with a little char, im pretty solidly brocolli is best steamed or microwaved now.

At this point you should be able to make more complicated recipes, because you'll see theyre really not that complicated, or just have the power to spruce up cheap, store bought foods like pasta sauce.

edit: a side note about meat. Some people love bacon, and when they learn to make bacon, they start adding it to everything. It can be the main course or an addition to spruce up something like beans. its also great for learning that you can use animal fats to cook other things like veggies and sauces. Im not a big bacon fan so i didnt think about it earlier, but bacon has a lot of uses.

CMYK Quells Quacks Qualms with Quaint Quality Quirks [Quacks of Quedlinburg name and artwork change]
 in  r/boardgames  17d ago

I have containers that hold the descriptions up too, very nice but you could definitely just get little plastic bins that you keep near your board games for any games. It's not too hard to find the correct numbered ones as long as they're color organized. I'd say it's the least priority upgrade for the game compared to tokens and bags

I think the new art looks really good! Too bad I already have a blinged out copy.

Edit: watched the all in unboxing, I think this version looks great. It even has better bags, all it's missing is containers for the chips.

Alternatives to Diablo 4?
 in  r/SteamDeck  19d ago

Chronicon is a pretty good 2d arpg, id say most similar to like titan quest/grim dawn. mixing of different classes, runs great on deck.

I'm not a fan of its gacha mechanics or butt-tacular posing of women, but torchlight infinite is also a pretty servicable arpg that runs well on deck.

AI chatbots being used in job auditions
 in  r/cscareerquestions  19d ago

You can only catch the obvious ones, but do catch them. Start every interview with raise your hand, stand up, etc. get rid of anyone manipulating their camera feed.

Then do a simple warm up, fizz buzz, check if an object is empty, etc. catch anyone who is clearly only copy pasting.

Then do your problem. If it all seems up to snuff, ask them to clean things up or to make a minor change.

So, they might still be cheating at this point, but theyve covered their tracks. What can you really do at that point? Imo, since I'm not an employer, if your cheating is so good that I can't tell you're full of shit, fuck it. Not my pay grade to find out.

If that's a concern, I'd encourage you to discuss what the probation period of an engineer looks like and what can be done to get rid of someone who is not performing at their job. You can't perfectly filter people, we are actually incredibly bad at determining a candidates potential, cheating or not.

If you could tell your early CS self one thing what would it be?
 in  r/cscareerquestions  20d ago

The best way to learn something code wise, if it's code you're writing from scratch, is to try it scientifically

Guess what your code is going to do, execute, evaluate. If there is a gap between shown and expected results, try to logic out why, and if you can't, then post on the Internet "I tried x to do y but got z". You won't always get useful responses but this has been the most consistent way I've found to ask questions.
