AITA for telling my brother he can’t use my house as a wedding venue if I’m not even invited?
 in  r/AITAH  1d ago

I think the thing that bothers me even more than the shocking entitlement is the fact that the bother doesn’t even want OP at the wedding- his own brother! If I were engaged to someone who told me that my sibling couldn’t come to my wedding, I would fight like hell for my fiancé to rescind that decision. Also, where is their mother in all this?? Why isn’t their mother fighting for OP to be invited to the wedding too? Something stinks here.

I think OP‘s original snarky comments to the fiancé, even though OP said it was long ago, got to her more than he realizes. I think she’s been holding a grudge all this time and that’s why she doesn’t want OP at the wedding.

Left nonprofits? What is your job now?
 in  r/nonprofit  1d ago

This is very good to know. May I please ask for a brief outline of what you do? For example, what does “community affairs“ entail in a for-profit organization?

Federal grants suddenly ending

Yes, some of the NEA and NEH grants I was going to apply for have been completely eradicated. Not good.

employment and career Left nonprofits? What is your job now?

I’ve been in the nonprofit world for most of my adult life (I’m in my 50s). My work has been very niche - art, art museums, and other nonprofits that incorporate the arts. Like many of you, I’m exhausted. With the new administration, several of the grants I was going to apply for have been completely eradicated and it’s getting harder and harder to raise money. Personally, I’m also very tired of always being broke due to low salary, never having money for “extras”like a vacation of any kind, and terrified for retirement because I have no significant savings. For those of you who “abandoned ship” from nonprofits, what did you go on to do? Also, are you happy in your decision?

Has anyone ever had experiences with passed on pets?

My most beloved cat Torbjörn developed a rare autoimmune disease that was never going to get better, although it could be managed with meds for a while (in in his case, it was about two years) until it was finally “time” due to quality of life issues. The day I put him down, I kept feeling his weight next to me on the bed and my other cats kept waking up and looking at the door like they always do when another one of them walks into the bedroom. This went on for three days. I swear it was him.

I live in the extremely buggy southern US and I see images like this all the time. Trust me, it’s an insect.

Crying lost little girl at a museum, what would you do?
 in  r/AskMenAdvice  9d ago

Get a security guard immediately – that is part of their job. An adult should never approach an unaccompanied child alone in public because you never know how it will be perceived.

AITA for dumping my girl because I found my wife?

AITAH for refusing to cook in our kitchen because my wife decorated it
 in  r/AITAH  15d ago

Honey, if you’re gonna cook for me, I’ll let you have whatever kind of kitchen you want! Also, it’s really weird that insisted on an espresso machine when you guys don’t even drink espresso. I’m sorry, but that’s just plain ridiculous.

AITA for not picking up my husband from the airport
 in  r/AmItheAsshole  16d ago

What adult human being, when about to go on a plane, forgets their ID? I’m seriously confused here… Is this guy an idiot?

AITA for the way I told my wife she needs to be able to communicate during a potential emergency situation?
 in  r/AmItheAsshole  16d ago

Yes, but I would also expect them to call me because if the animal’s about to expire, I would want to be there.

My mom is the asshole (Delete if not allowed)

Yep, your mom’s an asshole. What does “gay“ look like, anyway?

My husband got me a vacuum for my 50th
 in  r/AITAH  17d ago

That sucks, and I’m so sorry he did that to you. I’ve worked for nonprofit organizations for most of my adult life and due to that, lived paycheck to paycheck for many years. When I finally turned 50, I told my husband (who made, literally, triple the salary that I made) that I would love something really special - a trip or something like that, because I hadn’t been able to do anything special at 20, 30, or 40. Not only did he not give me a trip, or anything special at all, I had to plan my own 50th birthday party right down to the venue and the cake. Notice I said ex-husband. No one should have to put up with being unappreciated and disregarded, especially on a landmark birthday.

Anyone else thinking to leave nonprofit?
 in  r/nonprofit  19d ago

I think about leaving the nonprofit world pretty much every day. I’ve worked in the nonprofit sector my entire adult life and although it’s been very satisfying because I know I’m doing good work, I have no money, I have no savings, and I am absolutely terrified about retirement. Now, of course, with all the grant and funding cuts, I’m terrified that most nonprofits aren’t gonna make it. I’m trying not to freak out, but it’s hard.
