Started doing this with my new Tomb of Annihilation campaign. I'm a big fan and can't believe I EVER fudged rolls in the past. 3 out of 4 party members have already gone unconscious and we've had 3 sessions. Granted, level 1 is pretty deadly... The tension is real!!

Yeah this weekend was a bad one for me too, should have been a great time, it was my birthday the other day, my son was playing in a big soccer tournament, he made it to finals but I just feel defeated now after relapsing 3 times in the last 24 hours.

I know I can do better, I have done better, I just feel like I'll never beat this thing

This is true, anything played towards my idea would be going off book and realistically wouldn't fall in line with the flaming fist as written. It would be a stretch to make my idea work. But I'd probably make that stretch just to see my players in that situation lmao

Maybe have those slain guards as part of a counter movement, working from within the flaming fist to help the common people using the fists ill gotten spoils of piracy or something.

Actions have consequences. Just because theyre guards for a morally questionable group like the flaming fist doesn't mean that innocent people don't rely on them.

The real trick is to show them how their actions negatively effect other people, then give them a route to redeem themselves and help the people they inadvertently hurt

Let them but then down the road have them encounter a small village in the jungle that's waiting on a shipment of medicine for their sick elders or children. Fort Beluarian was supposed to have delivered it a couple days ago but they haven't shown up yet and without the medicine, the sick are at risk of contracting infection or outright dying.

Maybe it leads into a side quest to procure some natural jungle reagents to make a makeshift medicine to last the group enough time to take the sick on stretchers to Port Nyanzaru where they can get more permanent treatment.

I just ran cellar of death with my party, they're in the lichs basement right now and I was surprised how well the section with the NPC creation went. As soon as we established how each of their characters knew Beck Wigglestamp the gnome, I explained how they were in a cemetery just outside the walls of Baldur's Gate and as soon as I said "death came quickly for Beck Wigglestamp" there were gasps lmao! It was great!

Seeing them in Toronto on that tour was my first concert ever! I got the Piece of Mind baseball tee and I've worn it so much that it's pretty faded and threadbare. Wish I had taken better care of it but it's still one of my favorite belongings!

That's too bad, might not be for everyone, especially playing pre generated characters. My players had fun. Once the security robots in the Emerald Empyreans loading bay referred to them as pets, they took it super personal and basically went on a vendetta against the Empyreans systems lol.

But also, Starfinder may not be for everyone. Some people just want high fantasy in their RPGs so broadening your search to new players who specifically want Starfinder may be the way to go

I invited a few friends that I play D&D with to try a Starfinder one shot that I ran for them. We play online and I used Foundry for Starfinder which I loved! Thought it was a great VTT and I plan on using it for an adventure path when we wrap up our D&D campaign.

So for me it was TTRPG nerds who I already knew personally. I'm sure finding strangers online to play with would be fine too. If I went that route I would write a little questionnaire to vette potential players and make sure we all had similar expectations and sensibilities for the game.
