I’ve had some kinda anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember. I’ve gotten to a point where I’m able to control myself a lot better and I won’t be stopped from improving my life or being a good person. The biggest lesson you’re going to have to learn if you want to grow and succeed in life is that failure, pain, suffering, anything hard, those things are what make you who you are. They allow you to learn from them, and to really put yourself to the test.

Some people try to prove to themselves that they are a good person, or that they are “normal” by societal standards or considered to be cool by their friends. The truth is, that these concepts are completely made up. Would you be acting this way, would you think these things about how stressful life is, about how you don’t want to do anything but watch anime and play games; if nobody had told you about the concept of normalcy, what things are good for you and what things are bad for you, how would you judge them for yourself?

I’m sure you would view losing your wallet as an inconvenience with no lesson to be learned from, but what good does that do for you? If you viewed it as a part of life, a bump in the road to happiness, perhaps you wouldn’t be so distraught about it. An analogy from Nietszche’s “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” hits on this well. I think about this when I personally struggle in life.

It means that if we would like to become the ideal human being, someone who is virtuous and capable and strong minded, the only way to get there is extremely difficult and seemingly impossible. But what’s great about us humans is that, like the sun in the sky, we can always tear down our old systems of belief and be born again like new in the morning, shining brighter than ever. Or you could stay balancing on that tight rope, still half animal, domesticated by other people’s belief systems instead of creating your own entirely. We’re all put into this world, we didn’t choose to be here, and we are all extremely unique and we all think very differently. Therefore we deserve the right to create our own rules and beliefs for our lives, rather than living through others.

My dad was an addict, he died at 52 from stage 4 lung cancer. I understand addiction more than you think. Your life and experiences did not lead you to doing drugs, in the end it was your choice. Did you think it would be sunshine and fairies when you first did hard drugs, or had you done your research and understood the risks involved? I’m sure you knew what you were getting into.

I’ve been smoking weed for 2 years. Ive done shrooms more times than I can count, I’ve gotten to the point where I was drinking every weekend at like 16. Now, I don’t even remember the last time I had a drink. I’m off the shrooms and I smoke weed for medical reasons. I understand it’s hard to stop, but it’s not impossible and in the end it’s you who’s causing your suffering. Nobody else is responsible, neither is life circumstances. Anyone can find happiness as long as they’re alive, no matter how hard it is. If you want to succeed in life and quit these substances, put your ego aside and your bullshit about how it’s not your fault, and make it your fault! If you don’t think it’s your fault that you’re in this situation, how are you gonna put the effort in and dedicate yourself to fixing it when you feel it’s out of your control?
