My grand father just before he died was like "No my father died of black lung, before such and such happened" and I laughed thinking it was a Zoolander joke. Turns out he worked in the West Virginia coal fields and I'm just an asshole.

Do people overstate how dangerous SF is?
Yes and no. Like any city there are good and bad parts. Just remember the 4 rules of the street. 1. don't make eye contact 2. Don't respond to people you don't know 3. Always keep moving, if you feel weird walk away or get going in a known direction 4. Never ever, ever leave things in your car.
If you follow these rules you will have a good time no matter what part of the city you are in. I lived in Alamo and it's an amazing spot. Have fun and contribute to your neighborhood
