Gov. Pritzker: Donald Trump shot the economy in the foot — and now we're all going to suffer.
 in  r/illinois  3d ago

I was planning on retiring in 15 years, I just lost about 3 years worth of 401K contributions in 48hrs. Yes I will recover but that loss just added time on because it's not going to magically reappear.

Compounding insult to injury you come on here and tell me I made mistakes. I know mistakes were made, but not by me but by Trump. He doesn't give a shit about anyone else, this isn't going to help us in the long run.

For every month Trump has been in office I've had to add a year+ to my estimated retirement goal and I'm YEARS away from it

What do you think of Senator Cory Booker's marathon speech (20 hours+ as of this post)?
 in  r/AskReddit  7d ago

This is the kind of history I want to live through. He's right - this is a moral issue not a D vs R. The oligarchs are trying to destroy the USA.

I still have years to go but my losses in February and March have added about a year onto my estimated retirement at this point.

Rural voters in Illinois push to leave their states | AP News
 in  r/illinois  29d ago

This bares repeating...There is one small problem with other states taking on counties, money. I live in the middle of the state, even our county is bolstered by the taxes Chicago pays. Those counties in Southern Illinois GET more money from the Chicago area then they pay. Other states can/will not take on counties that are poor and will drain state resources.

As someone who lives in southern Illinois and likes Illinois this would upend my life. How do I stop this? Will it even happen?

We are so back… backwards
 in  r/MurderedByWords  Feb 23 '25

He's putting people in charge that will lead the military inward to control us. I fear for our country. We're a month in and at this rate, I starting to doubt the USA will have a 250th birthday.

Americans, where are the protests? Where is the resistance?
 in  r/AskReddit  Feb 02 '25

I've seen a lot of posts with Feb 5 at each state capitol. Show up and demonstrate peacefully for the rights our ancestors fought for.

I hope its a case of the Dems not wasting time and money fighting every little thing, they are waiting to fight all the above. Think playing checkers vs chess.

Looking into moving to Illinois, how do you feel about the state’s politics and your property tax rates?
 in  r/illinois  Jan 30 '25

I live smack dab in the middle of the state in a red county. We have both red and blue in our county sometime next door to each other but go an hour south and you are in red territory. For downstate Illinois, Macon County also has one of the highest property taxes in Illinois. Mine is about 9k before homestead exemption on a roughly 100K 3 bedroom home. Do I want to move out of Illinois? Nah, I'm happy here. I can afford my home and it's upkeep. My neighbors are nice and my commuted is under 10 minutes (if there isn't a train on the tracks, lol).

My ex answered the door in his Halloween costume once, mad scientist with blood splatter all over him. We never had them come to the door again.

They are doing what they always do when there is a disaster, they're sending "thoughts and prayers".

Someone on Tictok made the point that Canada would get reps, and they are left leaning so it would take control of Congress.

Dogs in winter
 in  r/dogvideos  Jan 04 '25

5 years ago, I had a toy poodle that walked out the back door to snow up to her snout. She about faced, into the porch and immediately went to the box of puppy pads and pawed at them. I put her a pad down and shoveled her a spot in the yard. She waited but I always gave her the option if the snow got too deep. Miss that furball everyday.

"pledges" Sorry but until that money clears is firmly in the pockets of the charity, he's not given shit. Pay his people and treat them humanly and I bet there would be a lot less need for charity in the areas Amazon employees work.

Ben's sister got MARRIED?!?!?!
 in  r/DuggarsSnark  Dec 15 '24

I don't know if this counts. I have been with my hubby 20 yrs, around the 15 yr mark he turns to me says "Why don't we go ahead and get married?" 1.5 weeks later my parents met us at the courthouse and it was done.

So people usually drift to the right politically as they grow older. Just look at boomers who once did Woodstock and now…. What about you guys, will the same happen to you? Will you drift to the right with age?
 in  r/BoomersBeingFools  Dec 10 '24

My Silent Gen Father is a union guy so a conservative lefty, my boomer mom is a hippy lefty and me Gen X a lefty. Every day I get more fed up, it's time for the masses to rise up and join forces against the rich.

I see absolutely NO problem with this

The wage gap in the USA is greater then it was right before the French Rev. As the USA creeps toward it's 250th bday...it's almost like it's time. Look at what S Korea has been doing, if only we could all unite, we're in the same boat. Its not a left right issue it's a rich/poor. The rich get richer and can pay their buddies to keep them rich. I look at other leading countries and what they offer their people for their taxes and then look at my taxes and groan. Where's the tea to dump in the harbor?

 in  r/traumatizeThemBack  Oct 31 '24

My hubby answers 2 ways, waste their time so they aren't out scamming someone else or something like "Myrtles Meathouse, You kill it and We'll grill it". Or "Tony's Tampon emporium, Do I need to tell you where to stick it?" my fav will always be him dropping his voice an octave and answering "Gertrude's Whore House, Gertrude speaking."
