Yup, my mother did nearly the exact same thing: it’s almost a whole admission. Essentially saying that she’s controlled or abused you your entire life to get you to do what she’s asked, so if you’re not doing that then it means someone else is controlling and abusing you. But after the boxes sat in my apartment for the night and warmed he was ready to move when we started sorting through the next morning. The food bank was overjoyed though!

Back in the mid 2000’s I worked for a business who would unload trailers in loblaws distribution centres and other warehouses. We had a load of bananas that was delayed due to storms and the carrier had to write it off and parked it in a lot and told us if we wanted it to go ahead. I was also a volunteer for the local food bank and went to fill my car best I could. The next morning a friend and I were sorting through them when a massive spider like this guy came up the side of the box. We screamed and a guy friend came running with a steel toed boot and took care of it. My family is from Guyana and Trinidad so I knew what it was immediately. 20 years later I wish I had been more patient or taken another approach, but had it gone back to the warehouse it would have gone into a freezer or incinerator to be destroyed.

I left my windows down in my car at -30 for a few days after that just to make sure he didn’t bring friends.

Class of 03, 8 for sure, possibly more but I moved away from my hometown so I don’t hear much. We were a small grad class of like 100 so that feels like a lot when we are just hitting 40.

NTA, even if he were to grow and be teased about his name as he gets older, his grandmother is supposed to be a safe person to go to, not his first bully.

This is either completely fabricated or he hardly likes his wife and absolutely doesn’t respect her.

She absolutely should not have handled it this way, but we have no way of knowing the wife’s perspective in all of this unless she speaks up. But after nine years of this type of behavior and treatment, not knowing how many times she’s tried to advocate for herself. It sounds like she hit a breaking point. Or maybe there was more to the interaction with the sister that OP isn’t telling us or that even his wife let on. These things don’t happen in a vacuum, and other than his wife’s dislike of children, OP is not telling us anything about their discussions or her feelings about this arrangement. This is written in a way where we are only given information to vilify his wife. He goes on about how important his siblings are to him, their emotional connection and how he was “the best big brother“, but offers next to nothing about his wife, her background, her reason, her personality, nothing we are just supposed to expect that she is evil, hate his siblings without discernible reason , in a complete vacuum. I call bullshit.
