I actually assumed they did it on purpose to make it easier to manage but without realizing the myriad of interactions. Meaning I think they explicity wanted it to work this way so you would designate an area and it would be that way until its next turn - keeping it simple to track.

this is the best answer, it might be combining with the fan but that air should be quite turbulent. presumably the pan is also concave/bubbled downward and a little greasy.

I think that is what makes a good background, a customization that lets you reach a skill set or ability outside your class.

If gaining access to shield is problematic where almost any other lv. 1 wizard spell would be fine that's a reflection of an issue with the spell not with background. That being said its probably fine in my opinion - its good and people who enjoy optimization will gravitate to it but I think thats ok.

Yeah I would too ... infact most DMs would probaby not catch this and if someone pointed it would be like "nah thats dumb". This would have been flagged in the most simple of playtests.

I agree. Also I don't think spending a bunch of Ki to do an occasional area effect of damage is the same as being as good as a full caster at spell casting.

I think its important to balance the cost, but from a design standpoint you want to have niche fantasy options like an elemental monk doing an big elemental area attack. Balance it with action economy, ki points, aoe size, etc. I think there's a valid complaint to wanting it to have a bigger impact.

Thanks, and very good additional context. My biggest hesitation is learning something and then trying to learn the little differences. The community appears to be maturing quickly and providing lots of resources and that makes me feel like it might be time to atleast give it a shot.

There's an abundance of casters who can also be martials - one of the most popular archtypes in the game. Its not surprising folks to want to close the gap in the other direction.

I dont really know how the math works out so im not calling it weak but I think people want it to hit harder so I'd tell someone to talk to your DM about "upcasting" it if you want it to have more oomph.

Its actually quite rare the group even needs 2 short rests - that has alot to do with our style of play; but a limit is sufficient to dissuade trying to rest after every encounter/challenge..

Ditto, 10 minutes, I limit things that replenish on a short to 2 times per day, but spending hit dice or if say you hadn't used arcane recovery for the day yet - thats fine.

Really its penalize the people opposed to me disproportionately.

It gets a little more complicated if you think about recipes by volume vs. weight and consider density. The reality is they are close enough to each other most people wouldn't notice. I think in general to go from 2:1 to 1:1 adding 50% more water by volume just about works.

I dont actually ever bother watering anything down because I tend to want my drinks slightly sweeter anyways.

Definitely batch make rich syrups, divide them into portions that work for you and freeze them. They will last a long time and a rich syrup often wont even freeze. If you need to turn a rich syrup in a something less thick you can always mix it down after it comes out of the freezer.

I do recommend putting a decent clear rum into some of your syrups in small amounts but that's because some flavor compounds dissolve better in Alcohol than water. I will let it cool down a little and then add a splash of rum, mix and sit, before straining for things like cinnamon and vanilla syrups.

I've also frozen lemons and limes or their juice and of course white grape fruit juice. I am fortunate enough to have access to a good vac sealer but if you've never tried it most people can suck the lions share of air our of a ziploc bag with minimal effort.
