Unanswered What's going on in US politics

We have noticed a large uptick in questions about US politics. Most of these are not genuine questions and appear to be made to introduce political discussion to this sub in the wake of the second Trump administration. As such, we are requiring that all political questions related to US politics and its effects both domestically and internationally be contained in this weekly recurring thread.

Ask questions as top-level responses with the preface "Question: " and people will respond. All other rules are enforced as appropriate. We will not allow other US political questions as questions on the subreddit except in extraordinary circumstances.

Answered What is going on with the Minecraft movie? Spoiler

The movie came out yesterday, but tonight a lot of kids in the audience were quoting bits of it as if they'd seen it a hundred times. Did I miss something? It was like a hive mind in the theater, kids from across the theater were cheering at the same random parts and quoting it along with the actors. Did it leak online or something? It felt like call-and-response Rocky Horror screening stuff!

I know there were meme references and those parts I understood, but genuinely it seemed like a whole different thing tonight. It's the most fun movie experience I've had in a while, just a lot of people packing the theater, all having fun.

Answered What is going on with so many people using the phrase "cooked" lately?

Maybe it is just my age group but seems like over the past month or two everybody and their cousin has incorporated "cooked" into their daily vocabulary. I understand what the term means (done for, tired, past the prime, etc.), but where did it come from and why is it so popular lately? I don't really think the word is that funny, at least in my opinion ranges from not funny to just very slightly funny depending on the context

Since I need a link to an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/stocks/comments/1jrk43o/its_over_the_market_is_cooked_hope_you_enjoyed/

Unanswered What's going on with r/NotMeantToBeFunny ?

r/NotMeantToBeFunny (https://www.reddit.com/r/NotMeantToBeFunny) has been full of nothing but Chinese users, memes, and gore featuring both adults and minors.

As the sub name suggests, this sub was originally meant for posting things that weren't meant to be funny, but were anyways. I joined the sub back when that was what it was used for. Reddit stopped putting it in my feed for a while, but now it's back and now it's nothing but Chinese users sending shitposts and gore. If you sort by 'Top posts of all time', you can see what the sub used to be used for.

What happened??

Unanswered What's the deal with Alex Cole and why is everything he tweets reposted to reddit?

Upvotes

https://old.reddit.com/r/clevercomebacks/comments/1jsu6pw/its_all_coming_together/

Here's the most recent example, but if you're ever on the front page I'm sure you've seen dozens and dozens more

Starting a couple months ago basically every tweet this guy ever makes is now being screenshot and posted to reddit. He's on the front page of the site every single day. But who tf is he and why should I care about his tweets? His twitter bio says he's just a software engineer, doesn't mention any positions of importance or anything like that. If you google the name, this guy has no results that would lead you to understand why he would command a following, there's no information on him at all besides the result that provides his twitter page. I get he's saying the things that makes people clap and say yay he thinks the same things I do, but so are a lot of rando twitter users, why has reddit latched on to this random person specifically and singularly? I don't understand why this specific individual is relevant at all

Considering he's a software engineer, is it possible this is a guy who has a network of bot accounts set up to promote his tweets here in some sort of play at being a grassroots pundit or something? Or does this random individual who popped up out of nowhere really have a devoted cult following? And if he does actually have a cult following where did that come from?

Unanswered Why have people been talking about It's Marek?

Not trying to be rude, I’m just genuinely confused. I’ve seen a bunch of people posting about him lately and it seems like every second day I hear or read something about him.

I gave a couple songs a listen and they’re… fine? but nothing that immediately grabbed me. Is there a backstory I’m missing or something that makes this hit harder for people?

Why is he getting so much attention all of a sudden?

Unanswered What’s going on with the trend of people backing into parking spaces in parking lots?

I’ve noticed people, a lot lately, backing into a lined parking spot when usually people just pull straight in. The disturbing things are one, the people doing it can’t drive/ back up for shit as they take forever and are forwarding and reversing to get the car straight to fit into the spot. Stupidly, I might add, when they’re at the grocery store say, they know god damn well they're coming out with a cart full of bags that they have to load into the trunk/hatchback and now they have to maneuver behind their car and between another car or curb or wall etc. to get access to the back of the car.

Secondly, if there are spots back to back with no one parked near them, instead of pulling through the one spot and parking in the spot straight on, they still fucking back in!

Did this trend pop up on a social media trend, some influencers sight or where? I totally don’t get it.

Unanswered What's up with the internet being mad about the Netflix Adolescence miniseries?

1.8k Upvotes

So I watched the Netflix miniseries Adolescence recently, and in my personal opinion, I found it to be really well-done and effective. I've personally been exposed to "manosphere" discourse and a lot of incel forums so I felt like it was a pretty good look at an outsiders perspective on the matter and how it ties into the increasingly obvious negative effects social media has had on children, like come on, no 13-year old boy can handle the absolute onslaught of addictive content they end up inevitably being fed online and come out normal.

Now, recently the Labor Party has announced their endorsement of the series, and it has been very positively received by critics circles; however, the online discourse has been shockingly negative about it, and I don't really get why? I'll put a few examples below for reference and I want to hear your opinion on the matter:

  • This reddit discussion argues that the show was unrealistic and will just make inceldom increase.
  • A Twitter poster complaining that the show is too harsh to white boys and unrealistic.
  • Another outright calling the show "blood libel"
  • This Twitter post complaining about it being inaccurate on knife crime.

Unanswered What is going on with the sudden hate for Turkey Tom?

I've followed him for years, and his content fits right in with the "unpacking lolcows" genre on YouTube.

Lately, he's been collaborating with Frankie Fey (formerly Skumbagovitch), and the comments are flooded with outrage, alleging drama, misconduct, and shady behavior from both past and present. But no one's clearly stating what he actually did, let alone providing any proof.

The comment section has some of the angriest backlash l've seen toward a YouTuber who, as far as I know, hasn't done anything criminal.

Now FF is mass-liking comments that push back against the hate for TT. Here's the video that started the rabbit hole for me: https:// youtu.be/S6G1mlgb6g8?si=_115zPUuxdJQBiy7

Answered What’s up with vibe coding?

I’m confused on what is vibe coding?

Is it spamming ai to fix a problem, getting errors, and then inputting it back into ai until a solution is found. Or, is it using ai to generate section of code, understanding it and then doing that over and over with minor adjustments to get a final product.

I was under the assumption as long as you know what the code does on a high level it is not vibe coding. Sometimes there might be a better solution to the code ai provides but it’s much easier/time saving to get a section of code and try to edit it to perfection.

Also if your a developer would you recommend hard coding without ai or using ai but understanding the output.

Answered What’s the deal with the town hall meeting last night where Musk and Gracias said immigration is helping the growth of human trafficking?

EDIT: Answered! It’s Facebook propaganda. Thank you everyone.

My mom sent me this post on facebook, saying I should be infuriated by this? I’m confused because there’s no sources and I’m confused about the connection between social security, illegal immigration, and human trafficking, and how this exposes Joe Biden/the Democrat Party. The post:

“LAST NIGHT ELON AND DOGE STAFFER GRACIAS EXPOSED JOE BIDEN AND THE DEMOCRATS:

MUSK: "People think that Biden was asleep at the switch. They weren't asleep at the switch. It was a massive large scale program to import as many illegals as possible, ultimately to change the entire voting map of the United States and disenfranchise the American people and making it a deep blue one party state from which there would be no escape."

GRACIAS: "Human Traffickers made $13-15B off of this. This is a human tragedy. We created a system that created an incentive for people to come here and get taken advantage of by these traffickers."

MUSK: "This is not made up by the right. This is absolutely true...The real reason for these attacks and the burning of the cars, is that we're going to turn off the payments to illegals...I think this is the biggest voter fraud in the history of America by far. If the machine behind the Kamala puppet had won then they would have legalized all the illegals and there would be no swing states." “

I found this article about the town hall meeting Elon Musk and DOGE employee Antonio Gracias held last night, March 30th, 2025: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2025/03/31/doges_antonio_gracias_social_security_fraud_illegal_votes_and_human_trafficking.html

I remember hearing about a pilot doing this a week or two ago, and now a friend of mine has had the captain reject *two* planes today while trying to fly from NYC to Columbus, OH. Is this a new thing in response to some recent events or is it something that has always happened regularly and only now just become newsworthy?

Unanswered What's the deal with people blaming Shameik Moore for Beyond the Spider-Verse not coming out?

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGEY5E-xQ6a

I don't know about any drama surrounding the actor, so I don't get why fans of the series are blaming him for the movie being stuck in limbo following on from Across the Spider-Verse.

We know that there have been a bunch of other issues with the film, such as the animators on Across the Spider-Verse being overworked and subject to intense crunch culture, extensive rewrites, I've even heard some people say that Beyond the Spider-Verse hasn't even been written yet and they left Across the Spider-Verse on a cliffhanger without knowing what was going to come next.

All these issues are arguably more the fault of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, so I don't get why Shameik is being treated as the sole reason for the movie being stuck in development hell, besides obvious explanations like racism or lazy and impatient people needing an easy target to focus their frustration on.

Can anyone explain what's going on to me? :O
