Where did the stereotype ‘the black character always dies first’ come from?

The Relic is my childhood trauma movie and I really couldn’t get past the opening, so that guy’s death is probably the one I saw

I agree with this take. Some people have no nuance and are 100% in either direction, when the truth is much more nuanced/gray

I feel like skipper was supposed to be regular and then something happened but maybe not

True, she could just get a house with a second bathroom elsewhere. Skidmarks makes me want to just throw the whole guy away. It’s not even like he was sick or drunk or something, it was a regular morning and he couldn’t be bothered to clean his own ass.

Disgusting 🤢

There’s a difference between being open minded and ready to give literally every guy a chance though. This is the same woman who thirsted for a sandwich guy for like a week, and also lied saying she was a stewardess to get a date. I love Miranda but I think she didn’t know what to even want in a guy and didn’t have standards at all. I do appreciate her considering if her sexuality wasn’t just straight.

And he would’ve been able to pay for caretaking for his mom on top of it, I bet

They’re my endgame and I’ll never stop. If people can ignore the movies for making Steve cheat, I can ignore the writers doing this to Robert when he was, with every example you gave, INSANELY chill and supportive on top of his busy schedule. If they brought him back in AJLT that would be the one thing they get right!

What’s that movie for you?
 in  r/Letterboxd  7d ago

I think that’s a really cool way of taking in a film, to focus on certain aspects and making sure you have the right mindset before going into it. I also think you might be right in not going into it like a modern one. I think I just tried to have an open mind since it was culturally impactful but had no expectations for pacing since I didn’t have a frame of reference (I haven’t watched a ton of 70s horror). I do like the Exorcist 3 though for comparison.

I’m gonna give it another shot. I definitely appreciate the film for what it’s done for horror. Thank you for the insight!

I can understand and respect that, even as a big Tarantino fan. They’ve definitely got controversial elements to them, but I don’t take them too seriously so they’re fun to me

Did anyone like Nomadland? I never hear anyone talk about it since it came out. Also…Molly Shannon year of the dog or another film? I didn’t know if that film was well known

What about Jackie Brown? That one is very different from most of the others since it’s an adaptation

I agree. The shocking scenes are awesome but I think the pacing can be a lot for me to withstand. I like a fast tempo film, or one that builds character but moves into the main setting by act two.

Maybe I should just rewatch it again to make sure it’s not a modern viewer problem from being brainrotted

Edit for spelling

I never could get into It Follows, I get bored every time for some reason, even as a big horror movie fan. I did like the Tall Man jump scare!

What other holiday needs to have its own horror movie?
 in  r/horror  8d ago

You’re cooking, but I’d say be careful not to do ideas that might have been done well before. Some of the ideas here remind me of the lore of Candyman, especially in Candyman 2. But I think a southern gothic Juneteenth zombie movie with some ~social commentary~ could be awesome

What is a Disney princess unpopular opinion you have?
 in  r/disneyprincess  8d ago

I wish there was more Emperor’s New Groove content too, but I think it’s hard to move forward since Eartha Kitt (rip) IS Yzma, and her chemistry with Kronk is very central to the humor. They’d have to make large changes or get a new villain or use old recordings from Kingdom of the Sun

What is the breed of your reactive dog?
 in  r/reactivedogs  9d ago

I also have an Australian Cattle Dog/Labrador Retriever mix, too. He was already reactive when I adopted him at six months old, but the shelter didn’t tell me before. I love him to death but i’ll never adopt another shelter dog again tbh. I’ll try to find a breeder with good practices.

He’s also much better now that’s he’s trained, uses a muzzle, is on medication, and we avoid certain locations

Miranda had the finest rebound man and man period!!! Argue with ya mammy! 😊
 in  r/sexandthecity  9d ago

I think it’s because she would accept any guy who would give her the time of day, and would always be way more forgiving/lenient with them than they would for her. All the other girls had some sort of archetype of man that they gravitated towards or liked, but Miranda never had a specific idea of a man I think
