Sub 1000 rank, get šŸ˜Ž
 in  r/royalroad  Feb 03 '25

Thatā€™s an amazing accomplishment! Due to some reason I canā€™t seem to get past 4.5 or 4.6. Every time I do and can creep past 2k I get bombed again. Cest le vie

Why do authors gravitate to the most soulless, mass-produced sounding blurbs/ads?
 in  r/royalroad  Feb 03 '25

I think what you may be experiencing is also genre fatigue. I think there is truth in that authors are usually pretty bad at explaining whatā€™s good about their book. Hell, sometimes they arenā€™t even good at telling you what the book is actually ABOUT. They start with one premise but you read the book and itā€™s obviously a completely different gimmick and vibe within ten chapters. This is NOT a RR exclusive or even web fiction exclusive problem either I donā€™t think. This is about setting expectations and meeting them I think mostly.

I know itā€™s hard and feels bad, but really, try as hard as you can. Itā€™s just not worth it.

Publishing - fear

Itā€™s stupid easy to publish on Royal Road, just make sure you get your cover to be the right dimensions.

Hey can there be a new rule to ban obvious pity ā€œI guess Iā€™m part of the 0.5 club nowā€ posts?
 in  r/royalroad  Feb 02 '25

Yeah I agree, getting slammed with a .5 just feels bad. People want to know they arenā€™t as bad as they feel. I think thatā€™s normal. Disallowing these to be secret marketing is fine if we think thatā€™s an issue. I mostly donā€™t think thatā€™s whatā€™s going on. I think people are sad they got bad reviews and want to talk about it.

Has anyone else noticed sudden low ratings when their novelā€™s rank increases?
 in  r/royalroad  Feb 02 '25

It is. I would be lying if I said I didnā€™t wonder what my ranking would be without trolls trolling. However, on the flip side, Iā€™ve still managed to inspire way, way, more positive feedback. Getting hung up on the dude that hates your stuff is just a waste of time Iā€™ve come to find. They are lashing out for whatever reason, it really isnā€™t a reflection on you, I donā€™t think.

Basically happens to me every time Iā€™m ranked above 2k. I think there is just a segment of the population that wonā€™t vibe with your story and feel the need to be salty for whatever reason.

New change
 in  r/royalroad  Nov 24 '24

Thatā€™s fascinating, and that makes total sense. Forty chapters would roughly be the length of one novel. 120 a trilogy and so on. So stories falling apart when they get past those marks makes a lot of sense. I added a section in my what to expect based on this, to reassure my readers that this series has an ending and will be four books, no more, no less.

Yeah, this review is garbage. They donā€™t give you any specific issues, this can just be ignored to the best of your ability!

Honestly take a walk or go get some food, shift your focus. You arenā€™t weak, youā€™re just very passionate about your story.
