Holy Crap! I didn’t know such a thing existed.
 in  r/LeverGuns  11h ago

I carry their +P hard cast 9mm ammo in my pistol when I'm in bear country. Thankfully, I have never had to test it on a bear, but I have full confidence that it would be effective, should the need arise.

Gen Z, did you attend a Hands Off protest on Saturday? Why or why not?
 in  r/GenZ  2d ago

I'm one of the oldest members of Gen Z, and I attended the protest at my state's statehouse, as well as at a Tesla dealership afterward.

I was actually surprised to see the number of people that I saw, and for the support from passing motorists.

Goth social media
 in  r/goth  8d ago

Gotta do what you gotta do to stay in business, I suppose. I remember my overbearing parents going through my email as a kid, seeing the notifications from Vampire Freaks, and just losing their minds over it.

I lied and said a goth friend at school told me to sign up so we could stay in touch, since she didn't have a Facebook account.

A picture says a thousand words.
 in  r/pics  8d ago

Man, we have groups of visitors in my park who have parties in the shelters, and even though I can see they have enough food, I still turn them down when they offer some. I feel way too guilty taking even a single bite of food from someone else.

That being said, how is he able to look so happy taking something from someone who will never make as much money in their entire life as he makes in a year or two?

Why do mods instantly lock down any post showing nazis doing nazi things?
 in  r/Ohio  9d ago

You know they didn't start with genocide, right? They worked their way up to it.

They were already Nazis when they were hanging signs on buildings. They were already Nazis when they were spreading hate speech and propaganda.

These people are Nazis. Just because they aren't killing millions of people, that doesn't mean they're not Nazis.

Normalize carrying a tourniquet while hunting. Paramedic for 12 years. Have seen them save lives.
 in  r/Hunting  10d ago

I got my Wilderness First Responder certification through NOLS, and it is worth every dollar spent, and every minute of coursework.

I am an Army Infantry veteran, and I loved doing CLS. WFR is about as close as I can get to CLS on the civilian side without actually being EMS. One advantage to WFR that CLS didn't teach was CPR and AED. Of course, on the flip side, there are plenty of interventions I could do as CLS that are not technically within the WFR scope of practice.

Anyone else wonder what the thing on her knee?
 in  r/Anby_Demara  10d ago

To be honest, I didn't even notice the spike in this image. I thought this was just about the larger, differently-colored kneepad. ¯\_(ツ)_///¯

Anyone else wonder what the thing on her knee?
 in  r/Anby_Demara  11d ago

When I was in the military, it wasn't uncommon to see guys running around with only one kneepad on, for the knee that drop to when kneeling. Maybe something like that?

But let's be real with ourselves. The true answer is just the rule of cool. Hoyo did it because they thought it looked cool, and they were right.

Donors being unresponsive
 in  r/nmdp  14d ago

I think part of that has to do with the pervasive idea that bone marrow donation is extremely painful. I would go as far as to call it fearmongering.

I just registered yesterday, and I am still waiting on my swab kit. But when I told my coworkers about it this morning, the very first thing one of them brought up was how much they heard that it hurts.

When I tried to point out that I have read about how that is not an issue in most cases, they just brought up some anecdotes they have heard about how much it hurts.

Anyway, I'm sorry this was your experience. Hopefully you find someone who is ready and willing soon!

Well, I'm out now, but I'll be sure to keep that idea in my back pocket on the extreme off-chance that I enlist again.

When I was an RTO, my PL didn't pick me, my PSG did. My PL and I argued like crazy. But my PSG and the Medic liked me, so I stayed.

I didn't hate the guy, but he had been in the Army for less time than I had been an E-4. He didn't care how much knowledge or experience I had, which got him "killed" more than once at JRTC.

A condensed version of a real thing that happened:

Me: "Hey, sir, we shouldn't stand here in the open while that BMP is shooting at us."

Him: "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP" *He lays down, dead.

Me: *Drags him and his ruck behind a hill, almost entirely on my own.

Him: "Why did you drag me? Now there's mud in my pants and my BFA!"

My PSG: "Well, sir, you were standing in a field trying to micromanage Weapons Squad and got shot. What was he supposed to do?"

Any chance my grandfather was in the CIA?
 in  r/Intelligence  19d ago

I believe the CIA has people you can ask about this specific kind of thing, though don't quote me on that. Even if they won't release it because you can't prove familial relations or whatever, you may be able to obtain it through a FOIA request. But those can sometimes be heavily redacted, even decades later.

What is your drill weekend toxic trait?
 in  r/nationalguard  22d ago

I was either highly motivated, ready to do everything my leadership asked of me because I loved my job that much, and wanted to make my PSG, SL, and/or TL proud...

... Or I was tired and bitchy, and I just couldn't wait for drill to be over.

I like to think I was the former far more often than the latter. If we were in the field, actually training on infantry skills, I was definitely the former.

But if we had a MUTA 4 or 6 that was entirely Home Station admin work, I was much less likely to be motivated.

I feel exposed without sleeves TwT
 in  r/GothFashion  Mar 08 '25

I'm the same way. I don't care if it's ≥90° F on a humid day at high noon. I will still be in all black (or dark red, purple, and earth tones) long sleeve shirts and sweaters, and long, black pants or jeans!

They can pry them from my heat-stroke-induced cramped, dead hands!

If we take the moral high ground against people who don't have morals, then we are easier targets for our adversaries.

Unpopular thought
 in  r/ColumbusProtests  Mar 01 '25

No. Wrong. Incorrect.

I'm sure you've heard of the Paradox of Tolerance (or some variation of that title). If not, it states that in order to form a tolerant society, we must be intolerant of intolerance.

We have been appeasing and tolerating these assholes for a very, VERY long time, in the hopes that we could find some kind of compromise or middle ground that allows us to exist and live our lives and allows them to feel as though we aren't bothering them (even though we already aren't).

What has that gotten us? Absolutely nothing. It has only caused them to erode the rights of everyone who isn't a neurotypical, straight, cisgender, white, "Christian" man. It's well past the time to stop playing games with these fuckers and show them that we won't take this lying down.

This "Don't fight violence with violence" mentality is exactly the same as the flawed "If I kill the villain, then I'll be just as bad as they are" trope that is popular in movies.

Don't you understand? These bastards are trying to kill us, and they're destroying the planet. We have been telling them for decades, and they haven't changed anything. They feel no remorse. But they can feel fear, and they have homes and addresses.

So don't ever tell me that I am the one in the wrong for standing up to those who would feel only apathy or joy at my death. Don't ever tell us that we are wrong for trying to send them the message that they will change or they will lose everything up to and including their lives.

Aren't black holes some of the most dense objects in the universe? You'd be saying that your love for humanity has an incredible amount of mass and is always bringing in more.

If that's the case, then me too! :)

Humans aren't perfect. Hell, too many of them are downright evil. But I believe most people are good.

I called all of my Republican representatives to ask if they were Nazis
 in  r/Ohio  Feb 21 '25

Yeah, I'm sure Musk and Bannon doing Nazi salutes are just signs of a small movement. I'm sure all the Nazi dog whistles Trump and his ilk spew are totally coincidental, and not at all a sign of something awful festering and growing like a cancer.

Found this Bobcat, why is his mouth taped up? Is this a way to tag them?
 in  r/Hunting  Feb 17 '25

The cell wall doesn't control what goes in and out. So no, it isn't serving that function.

Once again; it just gives the cell shape and structure, and provides some protection.

ETA: The person I'm replying to edited their comment to add the last bit about "people know what we're talking about." Here is my response to that:

You know, that is the same argument people give when I point out that the animal they're calling a "possum" is actually an opossum, which is a completely different animal. People will often reply "Well, you know what I mean." One person even said that since so many people call them possums, that makes it okay.

Unfortunately for you, and for the people I just mentioned, words have meanings that you don't get to ignore just because you're wrong.

Trump’s Anti-DEI Order Stops Maryland National Guard from Celebrating Frederick Douglass
 in  r/nationalguard  Feb 17 '25

If the state has an Army aviation unit, or an Air Guard unit with jets, I don't see why they wouldn't take advantage of the opportunity to do a flyover.

Army aviation especially, because literally everyone thinks helicopters are rad as hell.
