I am in a STEM fieldā€¦and not a single one of these is lab safe nor conference appropriate. They look like Miss Frizzle x Lularoe designs. Maybe for a STEM k-12 teacher. Hard pass.

Bringing my husband to the USA

They just started processing January 2024 filings this week. Websites such as https://trackmyvisanow.com/i130 pull data direct from USCIS and report the figures daily.

The processing time on this link: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ is 17 months, yes, but you are incorrect that this includes the interview. This is only for the I-130; for consular processing, once this has passed you will have the case forwarded to the NVC. This takes ~ 30 days.

The intended immigrant will then receive info on how to make an account and payment for their portion of the fees. Once that payment is received and processed, the case is then forwarded to the embassy. That takes at least 30 days as well. Then the interview and medical wait time is embassy dependent. Canada for example has a LONG wait relative to Paris for example which is short.

It is very rare these days to get a CR-1 instead of an IR-1 if youā€™re doing standalone. Expect at least two years total.

You were correct and giving good advice all the way up until you said he could essentially immigrate on a tourist visa.

OP, if you live in the UK as a resident but have a job offer stateside, you can request to do direct consular filing. If you donā€™t, itā€™s the same standalone I-130 process you would do if you were in the US and he were overseas. Current average time is 16.5 months and thatā€™s not including the NVC portion. Itā€™s averaging 18-24 months right now total. London isnā€™t backed up, so your NVC wait time wonā€™t be as bad as other countries are experiencing.

This is purely observational based on news reports and in no way a statistical analysis.

Iā€™ve noticed itā€™s mostly deep blue states being targeted. Based on your name and your post history, youā€™re in a red voting state (whether that be Alaska or Florida) so Iā€™m not surprised your institution hasnā€™t been targeted.

My dean (whoā€™s wife is a green card holder) even commented the same last weekā€”that he highly doubts our institution will have much issue since our state is low on maga agenda radar due to the voting trends being purple.

His argument about goal posts is ironically hilarious.

Parking: ā€œHome cooks should always shred cheese and not be lazy with shortcutsā€

Everyone: ā€œHeā€™s from the UK (as Europe is not a country my dude) and his country consumes more ready meals at home than home cooked foodā€

Parking: ā€œWe have more Michelin star restaurants (In other countries than his own but heā€™s counting their food as his)ā€

Literally strawmanning as though the density of quality restaurants has anything at all to do with OP cooking a shortcut lasagna for friends at home

Heā€™s also incredibly strangely obsessed with Americans and America based on the posts he spends hours a day making.

Just march. The price went up April 1 so a lot of filers filed in March.

With March having triple the rest, Iā€™m mentally treating it like we have 7 months before they get to June, and like we will be the last case in June done. Iā€™d rather not get false hopes up instead of being pragmatic about it. Based on their current rate, they say 16.5 months. Thatā€™s October. Iā€™m not betting on any sooner, and I donā€™t expect him to be here before January. London is pretty quick so once itā€™s at NVC it wonā€™t be atrocious.

Weā€™re already intending on border crossing on January 1 to make taxes easy if they get the visa issued later this year within six months of that date, and not til May if itā€™s issued anytime within six months of May. Weā€™d rather have two IR-1 visas than pay to remove conditions for two CR-1 visas if we wind up that late. We also donā€™t want to move my stepson mid school year instead of during semester breaks (summer or Christmas).

My ex husband was military and spent the first five years of our marriage deployed. Iā€™m used to long periods of waiting for the government to let me see my spouse at their leisure. The separation doesnā€™t bother me as much as it does him. But even then, he still has to sell his house and will need the time to do that after the visa is issued. We get to see each other every three months, and we knew this was the process to be married and together five years ago when we started dating. It is what it is. I canā€™t change it, so Iā€™m not going to worry about it.

Online receipt numbers are randomly generated. Paper filers are sequential. Only paper is tracked for this reason. As an online filer, your receipt number doesnā€™t correspond to the queue.

If your PD is December 2023, you should be looked at soon. Just because one agent started on some January cases doesnā€™t mean the one with yours in their assignment log has. Youā€™re almost there!

Long distance couples who got married, what did you tell your kids?
 in  r/LongDistance  5d ago

ETA: English is a funny language and it appears you mean you marry someone and then later have kids and want to tell them how you met which isnā€™t the same thing as having kids already. Iā€™ll leave my story below for anyone who wants that.

I met my first husband (the father of my kids) on World of Warcraft. After six months of daily ventrilo chatting, I had to be hospitalized for a surgery and realized I missed him so when I got out, I gave him my phone number. I drove up to his state and met him in person on vacation from work, and four months later moved there to live with him.

I just told my kids I met their dad on a video game. They donā€™t find it strange and think nothing of it. Their grandparents (all four) lived in a different state to them their entire lives and theyā€™re used to long distance communications with relatives so itā€™s not weird.

Youā€™re likely overthinking this!

Prior to edit post when I thought you were asking how to tell already existing kids that you were in an LDR:

We met because of our kids. We were in a shared discord server and during the pandemic we realized we both had a kid the same age and got our kids connected playing Minecraft and later Fortnite. They kept having server issues and running up to us ā€œdad can you tell xyla kid got disconnected?ā€ So we wound up just staying on a video call the whole time they played together.

Fast forward to pandemic ending and we were calling so often his son would walk in the door from school and shout ā€œhi dad hi xylaā€ up the stairs.

We didnā€™t start dating until the end of 2021 and met in person early 2022. Weā€™ve seen each other every three months since then.

Our kids were more pissed that we met each other without them first meeting than they cared about anything else. Theyā€™re stupid excited to be step siblings. I take my two kids overseas when I visit him so weā€™ve spent a lot of time together as an entire family unit in the same house. The oldest two talk on FaceTime regularly and text daily.

I couldnā€™t imagine being in a relationship without my kids being aware. Not that I would introduce them to a stranger I was datingā€”more that I canā€™t imagine not dating someone who was a friend first. Every guy Iā€™ve ever dated, including my ex husband whom I was married to for 14 years, was a friend before we dated.

I migrated to the U.S. with an (IR2) green card when I was 9 years old, I am 21 now but never got my citizenship.
 in  r/immigration  5d ago

I didnā€™t interpret their post to allow for this to happen. OP stated the stepmother sponsored the visa implying his stepmother was the US Citizen. The IR2 is issued for stepchildren as well as biological children. If OPā€™s father naturalized before OP turned 18, OP would have become a citizen then. If OPā€™s father never applied for citizenship, or if OPā€™s father received it after OP turned 18, OP would need to apply for it themselves.

What are the flags represented in this collage?
 in  r/vexillology  6d ago

There is a full blown movement of Cornish nationalism seeking autonomy and independence. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornish_nationalism

They have a ā€œnational identityā€ in one sense in that they view themselves as an independent nation and have a strong desire for the UK government to recognize them as such.

Additionally, nation has multiple meanings. In the United States for example, you have Native Americans forming a nation of people. One does not require statehood to be defined as a nation. The Cornish have a national identity because they are unified in a strong sense of heritage and common background.
