Impossible choice?
 in  r/weddingdress  4h ago

Dress 2 for me. Something doesn’t sit right with me about the neckline of 1. I like the fluffy feel of the skirt but I think the fabric/pattern on dress 2 is so pretty and different from what I’m used to seeing, and the shape is great on you.

Why do I need the other team to score before I start to play hard?
 in  r/hockeyplayers  4h ago

I feel like I read or was told about some study where if a basketball team is 1 point behind at halftime, they’re more likely to be the winners of the game than if they were ahead slightly. So it’s not just a “you” thing, many people perform better under pressure.

I tend to play better/harder when I’m pissed at someone on the ice. At least, while they’re involved in the play. But my mistakes tend to be larger too. I’ll be more likely to get a penalty or I’ll leave someone open that I shouldn’t because I’d rather chase the chick who just slashed me. It seems normal to me

When searching for an autism ‘cause’, why go after vaccines which massively improve people’s lives instead of something like the environment?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  4h ago

When you’re deep in the trenches raising a baby, you focus on every little detail. Vaccines are generally given on a schedule, and early potential signs of autism tend to show up after a set of vaccines are typically given. So in the eyes of the stressed out and overtired parent, they took their kid to the doctor and vaccines were given. The next day, the kid fussed a lot and felt sick (typical side effect of a vaccine that worked) and a few weeks or months later, the kid starts doing something that the parent thinks could be a sign of autism, so they connect the events together.

To be fair, a typical vaccine schedule has a kid getting a ton early on, so it’d always going to feel like any new behavior your kid develops, happened “right after they got a vaccine!”

Add that to all the other factors (misinformation from social media, crazy mom groups, and that debunked study that people still believe) and that’s why people continue to perpetuate the myth.

Need tips on stopping
 in  r/iceskating  5h ago

Try thinking about putting your pinky toe down. You want your skates as vertical as possible which will make it easier to make them slide across the ice. Make sure to practice scraping the ice at the boards before you move it away from the boards, to really give you a good sense of how much pressure and angle you need.

Also note that the worst time to practice stopping for a new skater, is after you get your skates freshly sharpened. It’s better to focus on edge work right now and work on stopping when they’re a little duller.

How much packaged treats do you give your toddler?
 in  r/toddlers  6h ago

We have a snack bin. I try to keep decent options in there (like bobos and applesauce) but there’s some “junk” too. I let them pick one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We have a baby lock on the pantry so we leave the door open when snacks are available (and they can sift through the bin to pick what they want).

It really helped with communication because we have one that’s speech delayed and the more aggressive he is about snacks, we can tell when he needs a more substantial something.

Because we eat vegetables?

Mondor vs Capezio tights?

Dance tights are thinner. Mondor.

How do you know when your blades need sharpened?
 in  r/iceskating  6h ago

Most likely you’ll notice while doing crossovers or while trying to hold an outside edge. In your crossover you’ll feel the blade that is underneath slipping while you crossover.

If you’re feeling your toe pick while skating forward, you have a technique issue to be addressed.

What is a snack that everyone says is good but you despise?
 in  r/snacking  20h ago

Burn some dollops with a sprinkle of parm and seasoning and you will be a believer!

I’m serious. Cooked cottage cheese is so good. Cold is….meh.

Does taco bell actually give you stomach issues?
 in  r/tacobell  20h ago

The joke stems from people eating beans, which have a lot of fiber, and a bunch of people with piss poor diets getting a larger dose of fiber than they’re used to getting from McDonald’s.

At least that’s where I think it comes from.

Beginner help
 in  r/hockeyplayers  20h ago

My husband started skating at age 45 and he was not a natural. Now he’s pretty good and plays higher than most people who start late in life. It’s all about how much you’re willing to work at it. The gear will help you learn to skate because if you’re willing to fall, you’ll be willing to push yourself to try harder. If you’re not falling, you’re not pushing yourself enough.

Look for sports resale stores or check Facebook groups for local hockey buy/sell options. Our local rink offers “try hockey for free” once a year and has some affordable options for getting gear so check all the resources around. Your best bet might be to ask a local player for what’s near you.

Are any of these used skate auctions worth buying for a beginner skater?
 in  r/iceskating  21h ago

I like the Jackson debut skate for adults. Freestyle maybe an option too.

Don’t touch any of those skates that say vintage or look old.

4 eyes players
 in  r/hockeyplayers  21h ago

Just buy a pair of dedicated hockey glasses. Measure your current pair, then go to like zeelool or zenni and buy a size smaller than you wear. Most of my glasses cost between $40-$50 from those two sites and I accidentally bought a small size one time but they’re perfect for hockey glasses and they live in my bag. (I would avoid the metal ones with the nose holders)

Example: https://www.zennioptical.com/p/tr-rectangle-eyeglass-frames/20189/2018921

Cheap frames. Lenses will cost maybe $30 more depending on prescription.

There was one really awkward cut during the lip sync that was so jarring.

Switching to a bubble
 in  r/hockeyplayers  22h ago

Get some baby shampoo and mix it with water like 50/50. Put in a spray bottle. Use it on your bubble (the inside specifically) and wipe clean (so you’ve left some shampoo residue on the inside). Reapply every now and then. Learned this from scuba divers who use it on their masks, works pretty well.

If you live in a warm humid climate (like Louisiana) then don’t do a bubble. If your rinks humidifier has trouble, you may experience more fog than normal…but usually it clears up when you’re moving (and fogs on the bench).

I don’t use one anymore….it gets hot.

I made pickles with vinegar but i also put salt. Is it okay? What if it is over salty?
 in  r/pickling  22h ago

I wouldn’t even bother making pickles if I didn’t have salt for the brine.

..Why?
 in  r/frisco  23h ago

The adults in that neighborhood constantly are fighting amongst themselves. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few more kids from there end up getting arrested or on the news for shitty behavior (or worse)

Help me choose between my top three!
 in  r/weddingdress  1d ago

You look positively stunning. I’m torn between the first 2. I probably lean towards 1 but the venue and your personality could certainly sway me to 2. 3 has the same vibe as 1 but I think 1 is far prettier than 3.

Public restrooms- what are yall doing?
 in  r/pottytraining  1d ago

Frankly we are the most meticulous about washing hands when we use public restrooms. Usually she can’t reach the soap or water so I have to do the washing while her hands are barely over the sink. At home she washes “by herself” most of the time so it’s more questionable.
