Beginner with a creative itch and no experience

You're going to want some kind of microphone of course. What keyboard do you have? There is a ton of good content on YT beyond the corny videos you mentioned.

I have a serial number to get Ableton Live Lite for free so if that interests you, shoot me a message and I'll send it your way. I do recommend Ableton Live in general although I don't have experience in too many other DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations such as Pro Tools, Cubase, FL Studio, etc) It may seem intimidating at first but it doesn't take long to learn the basics.

Typically you'll need an audio interface (such as the Focusrite 2i2, Motu, etc) which is basically an external sound card for your computer because most computers can't handle audio editing well. This allows you to plug in your mic and electronic instruments so you can record it into your DAW of choice.

Nice compliment during a gig
 in  r/Beatmatch  3d ago

I can't tell you how many times I've heard open format dj's completely wreck their mixes or don't even try to mix. It truly is refreshing to hear a dj out in the wild that puts effort into their mixing.

Cancelling Splice, which packs should I download?
 in  r/edmproduction  7d ago

Get Drum Tools 02 by Wave Alchemy, I've gotten a lot of mileage from those samples and they were recommended to me in this sub.

Boards of Canada activity on Instagram fuels hopes for new album

So you think you're the dung, huh?! Couldn't help myself. Tomorrow's Harvest is the only album that just doesn't hit for me but I have high hopes for a new album.

Don't sell your soul by doing gigs that aren't your dope
 in  r/Beatmatch  10d ago

This has happened to me multiple times. I was quite let down last time because I put a lot of effort into the set and tried to cater the setlist to what they requested but I got about 40 minutes into my 3 hour set before ladies were requesting things like Brittany Spears and the host ended up playing a short Spotify playlist on REPEAT for the rest of the time. Then they tried paying me less since my set was so short and I was pissed so they changed their mind.

Most people have such limited and basic taste in music that it's always driven me nuts but it is what it is.

Right on! I can't wait to delve in to your bread modular system. I've been saving up and hopefully in 3 weeks I'll take the plunge.

Please don't use AI for your awesome music's cover art. Your music deserves better. At least use a photo from your real life from your phone.
 in  r/edmproduction  19d ago

Luddites haha, haven't heard that one in a while. I've been using troglodyte lately. If I judged my favorite music/noise artist (Autechre) purely on their album covers, it would've been a hard pass for me.

I appreciate you sharing those points, seriously! That is totally messed up that people's art is being used without their permission. It seems that if the algorithms can be trained on publicly available art it could achieve similar results.

Wow it really takes a lot of artistic merit and soul to bust out your smart phone to snap a pic during a sunset. Y'all want my art or photography on the cover? You either get stick figures or a shitty photo, you pick.

Murcof's Remembranza from 2005. This album changed my musical direction for quite some time. Dark, romantic, mysterious. What are your thoughts?
 in  r/idm  21d ago

I was going to say, Martes changed my life. As others said, Murcof is haunting, mysterious and flat out beautiful!!

Offering free mixing and or mastering for your tracks!
 in  r/idmproducers  22d ago

Hey Vincent, that's an awesome offer! I've been working on this track that it at least IDM adjacent and I know the mixing is terrible but I think it has potential to be a good song. I can't help putting IDM elements into my tracks because that's been my favorite genre for 20 years. I can send it to you and you can decide if you think it's worth your effort! I'll message you on SoundBetter now!

I'm open to the idea of reality shifting retroactively. With topics like this it's hard to parse out the truth because the waters are muddied by parallel psyops. I agree about the data sets being able to predict our next moves to a very high degree. Yet all of this burgeoning technology that can show images from your mind on a screen, tells me that this technology is already in use and the capabilities are way beyond what we're told.

Has anyone here tried NAC (N-Acetylcysteine)? What were your experiences?

If you had some extra money to spend on getting better, how would you do it?
 in  r/WeAreTheMusicMakers  27d ago

I think finding a mentor that you mesh well with can go a long way. All the mentors I've paid for were great but some are much more organized and helpful than others and it all depends on what you bring to the table. Personally if I had the money this moment I would buy 1-on-1 time with SideBrain because I've gotten the most mileage from his lessons. He's triple the price of a lot of other mentors around but completely worth it.

THE DECONDITIONING MACHINE: Ra Uru Hu and the Mechanics of Liberation
 in  r/sorceryofthespectacle  27d ago

This is an amazing post! Thank you for sharing, it gave me chills. About 5 years ago a woman introduced me to Human Design and I read some surface level stuff about it and dismissed it as New Age disinfo like so much turns out to be. I'd like to learn more about all this. I read Wilson, Hyatt, Leary and Alli voraciously decades ago and this post makes me want to reread all those works.

It's not my conclusion but many people have claimed such a thing over the years. People report having thoughts about a certain particular thing (chocolate covered honeycomb for example) and not vocalizing it in any way and then getting targeted advertisements about that thing. I could see why someone might think phones are capable of listening to our thoughts.

No idea if this is true but I've heard Wayne McRoy say that with the supercomputers and all the data available on any given person, the computers can predict what we'll do over the next 30+ days with high accuracy, who knows if that's true.
