I just had an enlightenment: my next products will have a single WS2812B LED for showing the system status
I use them for everything. And as you said, they're really cheap in bulk. FYI, there are many sizes and form factors available, down to like 2mmx2mm, maybe smaller. Check Alibaba for options.

Would you consider switching to COBOL?

Every single garage in San Francisco.
My previous apartment, I begged the landlord to let me pay extra for the garage downstairs. No discussion. It was for their old junk. I saw them open it once in four years.

What is the most unhinged thing your Nparent ever said to you?
That's a pretty bizarre thing to say to your kid. I mean, maybe it was just a joke ... I've told plenty of jokes that didn't land well ... but if you were distraught then clearly the appropriate response would have been to provide comfort. And after that has been done successfully and you're feeling better, then you can try a joke. Probably a different joke than that one. So it seems pretty tonedeaf and dismissive. I'm sorry. It reminds me of my parents, who would instantly turn any comment I made into a conversation about themselves. It took me a long time to recognize that I do the same thing, and I'm still working on it.

I'm sorry. I know it's difficult. I haven't gotten a decent night's sleep since mine arrived either.

What happened to Anonymous saying they had information that Trump and Musk fixed the election ?
They've always been sensational jackasses. They've always sounded like melodramatic teenagers. They jump the gun a lot.

Are we going to have hiring freez and layoffs again due to trump tariffs ?
Every single person who rants about wanting "manufacturing jobs in the US" is imagining that other people will work in factories and they'll get an office job. There is not one republican in this country who wants to go do a factory job themselves.
1
Is reducing chicken stock by 90% so that it takes less space in a freezer a good idea?
The more you reduce it, the more constantly you have to stir it to keep it from burning. Also, the longer you boil it, the longer it's exposed to air at high temp, which means the more it oxidizes and the more you lose aromatic flavors. So you want to reduce it as quickly as possible, which generally means using a wide shallow pot, and also skim the fat and solids as soon as possible after you achieve the flavor you want.

The most expensive pallet known to man
Has anyone ever made a pallet from high-quality hardwoods using fine carpentry techniques? The exact opposite of using pallet wood for furniture? Just curious.

Did anyone else have their tone of voice controlled as a child?
Tone, no
My mother was obsessed with enunciation. Whenever she was losing an argument, she would try to change the subject and force you to recite words until you were miserable. So petty and pathetic.
2
"Your parents didnt know any better" NEITHER DID THE CHILD BEING ABUSED.
My parents certainly did know better. Even after they fled to small town texas where their antisocial behavior would be more tolerated, strangers were still calling them out for beating their children in public.
Even if they genuinely didn't know better, I have the right and obligation to be better than the previous generation, and if cutting contact is what I have to do to make that happen then so be it.
9
I feel like the abuse really starts to chip at you past 20…
You don't just "bounce back" at any age. It adds up and it takes its toll. Often you bottle it up during childhood and then as an adult you uncork the bottle and there can be a lot to deal with. There's a lot of useful reading available on the subject, if you're interested.
2
Anyone else give up on reading “Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents” because your parent was so abusive it went beyond the books content?
There are levels beyond narcissism and neglect, unfortunately. Check out /r/cptsd, for example. And yeah, a lot of therapists aren't prepared to deal with serious abuse. People who have never been through anything severe themselves will often refuse to believe other people have, for a variety of reasons. It depends on the individual. I personally really liked Adult Children..., but yeah, I maxed out the assessments it gave. "If you scored more than 10/50 ...", and I got 49/50.

Don't Get the Argument, "You'll Need X Less Developers"
The most important thing to know is, AI doesn't make anyone ten times more productive. It makes some people slightly more productive, and for other it just keeps them entertained.

Rivals are rising to challenge the dominance of SpaceX
I'm all for competition, but spaceX has an enormous lead and currently still has the best tech. Competitors will have to work hard to develop very small niches.

WTF? Just say thank you and give her a hug and put it the back of the cabinet.

Anyone baffled at abused kids that got "saved" in some way? (CPS, friends...)
You might have just had the bad luck to live in an unsupportive community. I grew up in small town texas. There were ZERO resources available to abused children. One of the texas state legislature's top priorities for the past decade has been "restoring parental rights" to control their children and banning schools from teaching critical thinking skills or anything that could lead children to question the "god-given authority" of parents. My dad used to beat me up in public, clearly drunk, and no one said a word. He would get kicked out of stores and restaurants and fired from jobs for assaulting employees and coworkers, but no one would say anything about the children in his custody who had vacant expressions and were afraid to talk to anyone. A few teachers cried when I talked to them about my life and my family and I didn't understand why, and that's about it. I also got "all mothers love their children, you're too young to understand" quite a few times. As an adult, I don't even like visiting my friends in texas. The culture there is so incredibly regressive. Mental health is literally a punch line, even in educated circles. You're not crazy. Your feelings are valid.

What's the most utterly ridiculous thing the narcs in your life have said?
I mean, it sounds like a joke that went way, way, way too far, but that's exactly what an extreme narcissist would. Oof.
My mother invented tons of delusions, sometimes to explain away her failures and sometimes just for her entertainment. She would repeat them and embellish them more and more for decades and then suddenly, one day when the story no longer suited her purposes, she would just abandon it.

[OC] Who do American men and women spend time with over their lives?
I feel vindicated! I broke up with my last partner because they spent all of their free time riding their fucking horse and less than one hour per day with me, and that was usually eating dinner. Good riddance. Three hours is the norm.

Is It true that embedded software pays so poorly?
I'm in the US, and here embedded is certainly one of the lower-paying software specialties. It usually doesn't pay badly, but it pays less than other software roles. I believe that's caused by two factors: distance from where profit is generated in a product and prevalence of embedded engineers in older and non-tech companies. Most tech companies have moved toward business models where hardware is a necessary evil and all the profit is generated in software, either data mining and ad revenue or the selling of software through app stores, and so the people who work on the profit-generating part are going to get paid better than the people who work on the necessary-evil part. The other issue is that a lot of embedded engineers work for companies that aren't "tech" companies that have lower wages in general. And by "lower", I mean "not absurdly above average". If you have "engineer" in your title, you'll probably be pretty well compensated and living above average no matter what your specialty. Probably.

Why does society treat traumatized animals with more compassion than traumatized humans?
It's pretty bizarre. You can read about Mary Ellen Wilson. In 1874 there were laws protecting animals from abuse but not human children, so people went to court to argue that children deserved the same protections as dogs.

What’s the pettiest reason you stopped sleeping with someone?
Her condo was filthy and mostly devoid of furniture. I can date someone who makes messes sometimes, but this was clearly just the way she lived all the time. No thanks.

My stepdad had a heart attack that required a multiple bypass surgery and he was in bed for months. A few years later he got gall stones and he said the gall stones were worse. My mother said he was being whiny and refused to take him to the hospital, until he went into shock from the pain.
