Ask Austin How have we failed the students at Dobie Middle School so completely?
Below are the results for state standardized testing at Dobie Middle School for the last school year. In most categories the percent of students meeting grade level is in the single digits. I did not see one where it was above 20%. I have no doubt that the teachers and administration work extremely hard to help the kids in a challenging environment. The demographics of the school are:
Economically Disadvantaged - 86.6%
English Language Learners - 72.1%
Special Education - 19.9%
In a city as rich as Austin with a top tier university, tech companies, and billionaires, it seems so sad that we don't care enough about 544 kids living in our city to provide them with an education that might help lift them out of poverty.

Road rage incident on Stassney and I35 frontage (April 6 - 820pm)
Road rage incident on Sunday 4/6 around 8:20pm on Stassney and the I35 frontage road heading south. A silver Chevy truck driver opened a white mustang car door and started punching the driver. If the victim is here and sees this - we have this incident on video if you are making a report and need this video! We tried to follow you to see if you are okay but ultimately lost you.

We need this back.
I love you and see you Austin FC but once upon a time there was once a home team specifically assembled for the good folks in Austin. If you went to the games, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Male friends sexually assaulted at a concert last night NSFW
Went to Amyl and the Sniffers at Stubbs last night, lost my dudes in the crowd but when we met up after the show both had reported that women were aggressively grabbing at their crotches in the "pit" during the show. One friend laughed it off but the other seemed to feel really violated by what happened. It doesn’t seem like it was an isolated individual because it happened to both of them several times while they were seperated from one another. Is this an issue other people have experienced here or is this fairly unique to the crowd we were in? The band and crowd seemed very "people of all identies should feel safe" so it was shocking and disappointing to hear that my male friends weren't.

Corolla tire thefts in north Austin
I woke up one morning and saw that all four rims and wheels were gone from my car, with it left sitting on cinder blocks. Apparently, the Toyota Corolla hybrid has been a frequent target this month in the North Austin area close to the Domain. Be safe, y’all!

Large Squirrel Spotted
Good morning, Does anyone know what kind of squirrel (if a squirrel at all) this is? Google thinks it's a Delmarva Fox Squirrel. I apologize for the low resolution on the photo. This was taken in the Barton Creek Green Belt near the Siesmic Wall. I used my phone on 8x zoom to get the subject clearly. It's larger than an average squirrel about the size of a cat. Color was a sandy grey with the tail being black and grey.

Hit and Run on I-35
I was involved in a hit and run on I-35 last night. They crashed into us from behind and continued to side swipe the entire right side of my car. When he took off, my immediate reaction was to follow them (probably not the safest decision). Because there was traffic, I caught up to him easily, grabbed his license plate, got a visual of the driver despite it being a bit difficult to see with it being night time. They refused to pull over.
I spoke to the police, made a police report online and filed a claim with my insurance. My insurance deemed my car not worth repairing, which is a huge bummer because my car was paid off and the cash I will receive for it will not be a lot. Maybe 4,000. The idea of having a car payment again, especially with these interest rates, is so deflating.
Will APD do anything? Is there anything I should make sure to do for this type of situation? I’m also going to get checked by a doctor due to back and side pain. Thank you for any insights.

Pics 45 and feels like 30 degrees wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card. Anyone else find this weather *a little out* of character?

Maybe so...maybe not... This Your Bike?
I was driving through the Highland/Northcrest neighborhood today when I saw this guy who had most definitely stolen at least the 2nd bike. Was your bike stolen today? Is this your bike?

Ask Austin Austin icons over the years.
Hi there, I’m a local artist creating some artwork of a mashup of Austin icons, moments, and cultural elements from over the years and figured I’d ask the community for some thoughts similar to what i created for H&M in the domain.
Think of great spots that you miss, or should be celebrated, weird and funky is great too. Things that have made Austin so special and memorable over the years. Chicken shit bingo to batman tattoo guy or Leslie, restaurants. All the fun stuff.
Attached is the example of what I created to give you an idea. Thank you for any ideas you may have :)

Ask Austin Who had to dig their coats and blankets out of storage for this weekend?
Or just far back of the closet, or bottom of the bottom dresser drawer, where you assumed you wouldn't see it again until Nov?
I'm not complaining. I see those 90-degree days coming during the week and by next weekend.
I forgot just how cold the 50s and 60s can feel, especially with the wind.

Ask Austin New Capital Metro UMO app doesn’t allow for monthly commuter rail passes?
Could not find the option on the app and called Cap Metro customer service.
The Cap Metro Customer Service rep repeated the $96 per month price but when I said it wasn't available she said I would have to pay per ride, maximum $7 per day.
Anyone else face this or get a workaround?

Home inspection find of the week: Saw this on two jobs around town this week - wonky roof trusses don't make load distribution any easier.
And just think of how much harder it makes the drywall installer's job. Not easy to put the screws to the truss!
