Events Bellingham Offline Club: tomorrow
We were asked to keep sharing about this recurring event online, and we’re happy to.
When: first Saturday of every month — Saturday, April 5th, 3:30-6pm (after the rally)
Where: Lettered Streets Coffee
What: leave your phone behind and hang out like it’s the 90’s again. Bring a book, crossword, work on a puzzle, play a board game, have a chat, or just have a coffee and sit. You can check your phone into the locker behind counter if you’d like.
We’ll also have poster making and letter writing supplies on hand as well.
The coffee shop will be staffed, and the rent is paid - so there is no pressure to transact. Just come be.

Events r/Bellingham Meetup #2
We had such a fantastic turnout and received wonderful feedback from the last meetup! I'm thrilled to announce a second event on April 25th, from 6 pm to 9 pm at Menace Brewing.
All the details and RSVP information are on Eventbrite (link above). Please RSVP by April 18th so we can get a good idea of how many to expect.
It was a pleasure meeting everyone who came to the first one, and I'm really looking forward to seeing both familiar and new faces at this next meetup!

Events Why you need to show up at noon today…
Most Hamsters already understand, this post is for the naysayers.
The quality of our collective future depends on the courage of our leaders, public and private.
Very few leaders are meeting the moment. They are choosing their own personal well-being (or that of their organization/institution) over that of the greater good.
Massive demonstrations show them what the right side of history is. Staying home sends the message that they should continue to nothing, or worse, capitulate to the regime.
The Seattle rally will get national attention, but the Bellingham rally is important too. We need our local leaders to stand up for our vulnerable community members. (Spoiler alert; we are all vulnerable.)
If you are unhappy with anything that has happened since January 20th, please suspend your pessimism for a few hours and pick a demonstration near you.
The pic is of Budapest a couple weeks ago…it’s time for us to step up.

Good Vibes Thank You Note- A fellow Canadian. 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Dear citizens of Bellingham,
I’m a fellow Canadian, who visited you guys with my friend yesterday for a quick Costco grab and exploring the city. It was my first but definitely not the last time there.
Although I went back yesterday itself, I haven’t seen people more friendlier than you guys anywhere in the US.
Everyone was very kind and friendly, every passerby was passing a smile and when I told them I’m from Canada, damn they became even more friendly.
This is just a thank you note for being one of the most kind hearted people I have seen.
Thanks.

Discussion Spring is baby animal season - please don’t kidnap the bunnies!
Each spring, the wildlife rehabilitation center is inundated with displaced or “kidnapped” baby bunnies. People see a bunch of bunnies grazing, and if they don’t see an adult bunny, often they take them from their natural environment and away from their mother and bring them to the wildlife center. Their intentions are good, but this is actually harmful. It is completely normal for bunnies to graze during the day and then go back to their hovels at night with their mother. Unless they are obviously injured, please leave them alone to live their lives in peace.

Discussion ICE Helicopter
Longtime lurker. I live near where the ICE raid happened on Mt. Baker Roofing. I saw this helicopter hovering around the time of the raid. I thought it was funny so looked it up on flightradar24 and it wasn't listed. I now believe this is an ICE Helicopter. I guess if you see this around there is a good chance a raid is going on/going to happen. Stay safe all!

Weather Did anyone else see the ring around the sun yesterday?
At first I thought my camera lens was dirty, but I could also see it in the sky. Kinda neat.

Discussion How do homeless people survive here
Gonna be homeless soon and trying to figure out what I should do. Looked on roommate apps and tried to apply for housing assistance but I keep getting rejected when they are even open. The only places I could find to co rent with someone want like 1000 to 1200 and on top of that a security deposit that's completely out of my budget. I really don't want to go to the homeless shelter from what I hear it's completely like hell especially with the stealing. What should I do?
Edit: Someone recommended me roomies. I took a look and found a place in Oregon that I can rent a room from somebody. Thanks everyone for your support

Discussion Getting back into fishing
Hello hamsters! Last year I got back into fishing doing some bass fishing with my buddy. I'm wondering what the saltwater scene is like around here if you don't have a boat? Is there anything that you can keep to eat? What does a basic setup look like?

Discussion Please be nice to rideshare drivers. Lyft is on some bullshit and just accepting a ride has become dangerous and stressful.
For reference, I do Lyft full time, mostly because ten years of customer service, management, and medical admin experience means nothing in this town apparently.
Anyways, Lyft has decided to switch to a new way of forcing drivers to accept rides. Basically turning ride requests into a full screen pop up every 30 seconds, wether you’re driving or not, that then takes several minutes to actually process, leading to last second turns, wrong directions, and lower patience. I feel like I’m driving a slot machine more than a taxi.
TLDR: I hate it here

Discussion Does anyone know if Ps. ovoideocystada grows in Whatcom County?
Hopefully I'm allowed to post this here. Not looking for any kind of offers or anything against the rules so please do not message me about that.
I like documenting/photographing local plants and fungi and this is one of the species I still have left on my list to check off finding, just wondering if I'll need to head south towards Seattle to find any because there are no finds listed on iNaturalist for this area.
Can anyone confirm if ovoids (Psilocybe ovoideocystada) do or do not grow in Whatcom County?
Thanks!

Looking for Work/Housing Help looking for roommates
Hello, as the title says I’m looking for some resources for help finding a roommate to join the other room in our (21M & 20F) 2BD, 1BT appartment. The rent would be $1,000/mo. for the other room (total rent is $2,100/mo.).
It’s a new place near WWU, we’re the second round to ever live here and ideally we want someone around our age, but the most important thing is they’re respectful of the space/relatively clean outside their room. We also have a polite cat. I’d be happy to provide more details :)

Arts and music How strict is Will Call at Bar211? giving tix for show tonight
short notice, I know...
I have 2 tickets for the show tonight: opener is a 80's review and main show is a hair band tribute. Supposed to be fun but we can't make it.
If I give you my name at will call, and they're ok with that, ... does anyone that can go, want them?
