Skip college and go learn a trade. Unless you are going to school to become a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or accountant, there is no reason to shell out $50k minimum to these institutions that are lying to our kids about their future. If you know a trade and can maintain a home your options for housing grow exponentially.

And what about all the other jobs that aren't doctor, lawyer, engineer, plumber, electrician, HVAC tech, etc.?

And what if you haven't figured out what you want to do for the rest of your life at age 18?

Go work. And don't try to figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life by spending your future on an "education." The only reason someone should go to college is if they have a focused career path leading to a solid profession afterward. Don't buy into the nonsense that says otherwise.

This is such a nihilistic view of education, my god. It depresses me reading this. You can easily see that a bachelor's degree in any field vastly outearns a non-degree. The much-maligned English degree does just fine in the real world. Turning yourself into a soulless automaton at 18 is just sad.

Find your purpose in life, not your job. Listen, I have an MA and it has helped me no doubt. But I have seen many many friends and classmates struggle because the path they took in college was not focused on a career. It doesn't matter what you do, you will get bored. The most important thing for fulfillment in life is the ability to take care of yourself. So it is SUPER important to be smart about what you are spending your future on in college. Trade work is honorable and secure. It gives you the skills to maintain a home and time to enjoy your home.
