This is literally how Reddit has conducted its existence for the last 15 years

u/Monovoid_ Presenting the Truth 2d ago

I’m saving this

u/Pighway 2d ago

Alex Norris does those comics and is cropped off from the image, if you want to see more

u/Apoptosis-Games Phd in MEMEs 2d ago

Thank you for crediting the artist! I found the picture like this and didn't think of it

4

u/Pighway 1d ago

I assumed :)

16

u/Affectionate-Area659 2d ago

Yup. And then they pretend those whose space they have invaded are less than human.

8

u/TheAngryFart 1d ago

Also a good meme for how spreading Islam works.

My precious knitting sub is overrun and I spiral ever further into insanity.

232

u/StrongStyleFiction 2d ago

Some Asshole: "Knitting was always political."

125

u/ShameSudden6275 2d ago

I hate this reasoning so much.

Are their political nuances in things? Sure. My issue is you aren't actually discussing the political themes of that thing, your just saying what you want to say and attaching it to that thing.

43

u/GermanPayroll 2d ago

That’s what kills me. They don’t want to discuss anything, they want to feel correct.

13

u/Brief_Childhood_9080 1d ago

I agree with this completely. If you have a take that even remotely goes against the grain, you instantly get 1k downvotes and permabanned from a sub that isn't even supposed to be about politics like r/pics or r/interestingasfuck

9

u/TheAngryFart 1d ago

Lol r/pics perma banned me and DM’d me that I’m a Nazi then made sure I couldn’t message back and I wasn’t even apart of the group and all I did was comment “gross” on one photo. 😂🤣

9

u/Nico408 1d ago

Reminds of this pic of reddits political map I saw on another sub:

8

u/pperiesandsolos 1d ago

That shits so insane. I’ve had that happen across a few subs, banned, insulted, and muted for 30 days because you say something like ‘I don’t agree all republicans are fascist nazi racists, maybe we should just stop calling each other names’

And people wonder why social media makes you feel so bad and like the world is collapsing 🤷‍♂️

2

u/ShameSudden6275 1d ago

The thing is eventually if a real fascist regime comes about it'll be the boy who cried wolf.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/neveroncesatisfied 1d ago

That sub has some of the worst TDS I’ve ever seen. They are obsessed and will call any contradicting comment a Nazi or fascist.

Everything is influenced by and can in turn influence politics, because man is a political creature.

Some people seem incapable of observing axis of human experience beyond the political. “It’s just one lens to examine the world!” Then why does it look like it’s the only lens they own?

20

u/Kevroeques NostraDOOMus 2d ago

Because it’s the shortest path to moralizing any of their gripes, identifying an enemy to blame and justifying any level of inactivity or lashing out on their own behalf.

Having an enemy to blame for your misfortune is infinitely better than having to think or work to adapt or improve your situation, for way too many people. Spiritless wretches.

7

u/lycanthrope90 1d ago

It’s very similar to people that need their religion to be the center of everything they’re apart of. These people’s religion happens to be politics for a lot of people now.

7

u/Twitchenz 1d ago

I agree with the comparison. Though, politics is also much worse than religion in this respect. Politics lacks the real physical community and spiritual enrichment as well as the formalized structure of how to enter and participate in religion.

Politics is an extremely poor substitute for that kind of energy. In this respect, finding spirituality in politics is much more like a cult. Scuffed religion, rushed out the door.

5

u/AntDracula 1d ago

Politics lacks the real physical community and spiritual enrichment as well as the formalized structure of how to enter and participate in religion.

Yep. And because they're all LE HECKIN' ENLIGHTENED ATHEIST-ARINOS, they've abandoned the universally solid aspects of the big religions: forgiveness, redemption, the son not inheriting the sins of the father, honoring parents, etc. They somehow took literally the worst parts of both worlds and Frankensteined together a worldview.

3

u/lycanthrope90 1d ago

Yeah didn't think of it that way but spot on! No forgiveness, just guilt and ever increasing purity tests to exclude people.

u/Moonsky_Pondie 2d ago

Happens a lot in pop culture subs, those are the exact words I was looking for but couldn’t articulate

71

u/_Diggus_Bickus_ 2d ago

Even when this is partially true, politics in media 20 years ago was more nuanced and thought provoking and less "half the country is Hitler and were all gonna die"

38

u/StrongStyleFiction 2d ago

It was more about, let's explore this idea in the form of fiction and less about the writer making sure you know how much better they are than you.

20

u/afraid-of-brother-98 2d ago

Hit the nail on the head. So much more interesting to see the “other side” explored in a story rather than moral superiority complexes

3

u/Stunning-Drawer-4288 1d ago

“Explore this idea” is too generous half the time.

“Exploring this idea in the form of fiction” would be like Fallout New Vegas exploring fascist monarchy through Caesar’s legion. Fairly represent the benefits of such a system (decreased crime, safer trade) before illustrating the ultimate flaws (unfair persecution of lifestyles like that of your companion Arcade who is homosexual, and being limited to the brief lifespan of a single “good king”)

The Redditors argue “ ____ was always political” when there’s a zero-effort bad guy who’s just a villain archetype vaguely reminiscent of a historical despot

7

u/carnyzzle 2d ago

It at least made sense in the fictional world and wasn't so on the damn nose that you can clearly see it's about something real world

6

u/ms67890 2d ago

I’m not so sure that’s true either. 20 years ago in 2004/2005 they were also calling Bush and Cheney Nazis too

7

u/_Diggus_Bickus_ 2d ago

Jon Stewart and Colbert may have been. The office, star wars prequels, Harry Potter movies scrubs and other normal media wasn't

3

u/Banestar66 1d ago

It was so disappointing to watch Mickey 17 and feel even Bong Joon Ho fall into TDS.

I guess if nothing else that movie felt like a time portal to 2021.

17

u/ShameSudden6275 2d ago

I hate this reasoning so much.

Are their political nuances in things? Sure. My issue is you aren't actually discussing the political themes of that thing, your just saying what you want to say and attaching it to that thing.

Also not everyone is American.

29

u/ExtensionAtmosphere2 2d ago

InPraiseOfShadows be like "horror is inherently leftist and there is no room in the horrom communitfor evil bad nasty conservatives"

Ah yes, horror, the genre about monsters and psychopaths brutally murdering innocent people. Truly an inherently leftist form of media lmao

No no, look him up on YouTube. He literally says this kind of stuff.

12

u/thegooseass Anti-Doomer 2d ago

I mean when you put it that way, it’s sort of makes sense to call it leftist

3

The U.S. centricness of Reddit is unbearable.

r/Natalism has a huge problem with it as one example.

“What is causing the GLOBAL birth rate crisis”

“Well billionaires like Elon make everything unaffordable for Americans”

3

u/ShameSudden6275 1d ago

If they thought outside the box they'd know poor country's have more children; the more wealthy a nation the higher the birth rate crises is, minus somewhere like China where they're intentionally trying to lower the population.

10

u/Pass_The_Salt_ 2d ago

This is literally the sticker sub. I got banned for pointing out that a sticker was clearly calling for violence. I just like stickers but its all just politics over there.

2

u/Solomon_Kane_1928 15h ago

I was permabanned from r/HumansBeingBros for saying calling for war is not being a bro.

I was part of a sub called optimistsunite /r and the literal purpose was "hey let's just post some good news here about how the world is getting better in a lot of ways". Within a week of Trump getting elected it got overrun with doomer posts.

Like literally all of Reddit to talk about that, but hey, let's invade and overrun the space specifically for the opposite of that.

79

u/Sangyviews 2d ago

I had to leave it. Immediately when Trump was elected it was like the bot switch was activated. Stupid ass YouTube videos like 'Heres how you can fight fascism!!1!' With 15k up votes. Seriously, overnight it turned into a bot farm.

40

u/NorthSea98 2d ago

They love to say Russian bot, but I think it's just them being China bots.

16

u/Tomicoatl 2d ago

Lots of Indian bots as well especially since X and Reddit both started running creator programs that pay out for engagement.

u/Appropriate-Dream388 2d ago

Also refugee. The mods tried to crack down for one day but were overthrown.

There's no good place to find good news, so circlejerk subs are the second-best.

Same brother. Heavens fordid people are hopeful.

3

u/mega-penguin9000 1d ago

God, I miss that sub. I left after the election in the hopes that things would settle down and it would get back to normal after people got it out of their system, but no, that’s just how it is now I guess. Literally no good news or optimistic takes to speak of.

It's not even 'politics' - everything is just a version of "Trump bad!!" Zero original, new, nor interesting material nor observations.

55

u/lewoodworker 2d ago

Literally. Every other picture on r/pics is Trump with thousands of upvotes. Yesterday, they recycled a photo from 9/11. How is something from 6 months ago relevant?

20

u/Hot-Minute-8263 2d ago

Same with comics. It was already annoying and sanctimonious as hell before the election, but now its all victim mentality stuff or unfunny trump bad posts.

Made me smile was also always smug as shit with their posts too.

10

u/Jfk_headshot 2d ago

And murderedbywords, and whitepeopletwitter, and art, and

3

Yeah there are actually really interesting and important things in US and global politics happening besides the Trump administration but you would never know it if you just went on Reddit.

1

u/Solomon_Kane_1928 15h ago

Not fair, there is a lot of AI bad too.

86

u/worshipandtribute95 2d ago

Random lighthearted post: "Hey what's your favorite brand of pickles? I prefer vlasic myself."

Average redditor: "Ugh I wish I could afford pickles but the economy is crashing"

56

u/Good-Possibility-841 2d ago

"Imagine thinking there will even be pickles in 6 months."

28

u/Nekrolysis 2d ago

Lmao i swear I saw this very same talking point in another comment section. Apparently the 'Imagine something something can even be done in 6 months' is the new shill/bot command

3

u/DaDawkturr 1d ago

“You can blame the dumb Americans for voting for Trump for that.”

37

u/Nachoguy530 Recovering Doomer 2d ago

Erm, excuse me, chudorino. Everything is political. Haven't you read a book? (Never specifies what books their opinions are from). Educate yourself, incel

16

The book is Reddit. And they’re an incel too, they just say they’re a feminist and talk about how much they love sex workers

1

u/maximidze228 20h ago

Mostly low quality short mass literature

100

u/TheButtDog 2d ago

And, to be clear, it's always American politics.

69

u/ExtensionAtmosphere2 2d ago

Which is doubly ironic since it always seems like non Americans talking about it~

49

u/Seleth044 2d ago

Especially when you hear the classic "you Americans think you're so important"

Well... You're here.. talking about us so...

21

u/ExtensionAtmosphere2 2d ago

Made that point in a conversation a few years back with the guy who was CONSTANTLY going on about USA this, America that. The whole "why do Americans always think they're the center of the universe", and he lost his marbles when I said "you're the one always talking about the US", then it was "that's because everything the US does affects the rest of the world."

So, it's like, are we or are we not the "center of the universe"? It's so very confusing.

9

u/CompoteVegetable1984 2d ago

We absolutely are. If the US were to collapse tomorrow the moon would go orbit some shitty planet like mars or something.

6

u/ForeHand101 1d ago

Well known fact: the founding of the US actually created the moon, fixed the seasons, and NOTHING BAD EVER HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER THIS MOMENT

15

u/NotBlazeron 2d ago

Around half of reddit is from outside the united states but they can't get enough of American politics.

21

u/DowntownPea9504 2d ago

"Tell me my American friends, how can you stand to go through life as a worthless piece of shit? Let's have a friendly, open discussion about it."

9

u/Fluffy-Map-5998 2d ago

And then later, "Why do Americans not want to help us anymore, why are they so evil and selfish"

5

u/veeenar 1d ago

Literally though … europoors talk shit about us TO OUR FACES and then ask why we don’t want to subsidize random shit for our weak allies.

And when you think about how many shills are just china bots, it tips the scales to majority non Americans discussing it.

1

u/Carbdoard_Bocks 1d ago

LMAO. Preach

3

u/Banestar66 1d ago

Not even just American politics, specifically the Trump administration.

For example, this is a really interesting story affecting two of our biggest states that could have national implications if it reaches the Supreme Court: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/27/health/new-york-texas-abortion-shield-law.html

But because as of yet the story does not involve the words “Trump”, “Trump supporting Israel”, “Elon” or “DOGE” you will never hear about it from Reddit.

22

u/vision1414 Presenting the Truth 2d ago

The questions subreddits are currently going through this: AskUS, NoStupidQuestions, and OutOfTheLoop are all turning into anti Trump circle jerks.

There was a question on OotL that was essentially “Why does Trump keep talking about a third term? Why did he say there are multiple way? Why did he say he is not joking?”

Every answer was “Trump is a fascist”, “Trump is an idiot”, “Trump is an idiot and a fascists” with a few “When someone tells you who they are, believe them.”

I answered by pointing out all of these quotes come from a single interview where he was asked if he would run a third term and he said he wasn’t planning on it and that he wasn’t joking. The “there are multiple ways to do it” was in response to the interviewer asking if there are ways to do it. This story is completely fabricated from a deceptively edited interview.

Somehow, OP replied to tell me my answer was wrong and that they are blocking me. Which is a strange response from someone who claimed to not know what’s going on and just needed help understanding the situation.

I am just venting because that OP hurt my feelings, but it does fit in with this post. All of those subs are changing from people wanting answers to people wanting choirs of OMB echos.

NoStupidQuestions was a doomer echo chamber this morning with people asking if we are in a recession now.

1

u/_vanmandan 4h ago

Ask Reddit is too. So many of the posts there are asking ‘Conservatives, why do you…’, and there are literally hundreds of comments of people just saying stuff like ‘cause they’re stupid’. How is that even engaging for them.

23

u/MKD1999 2d ago

Then they hit you with the "Um, human rights aren't a political issue?"

6

u/AntDracula 1d ago

And naturally, it's "human rights" as defined by them to mean things that have nothing to do with "rights".

19

u/johndeer89 2d ago

"We don't allow politics in this sub. HOWEVER! This subject is too important not to talk about. " -- mods every time.

3

u/Banestar66 1d ago

I legitimately don’t think it was even quite this bad in Trump’s first term pre pandemic.

COVID really made online people unhinged in a way I don’t know we will ever get past as a society.

3

I never thought about it being Covid that made everyone dig deeper into their echo chambers. Thanks for this.

3

2

2

u/Jonny_Guistark 1d ago

That is always annoying. Especially when the politics they discuss have nothing to do with the very specific commentary that the game makes. They just use the fact that it gets political at all as a blanket permission to drone on about whatever the hell they want, however irrelevant.

Exactly. Pretty much everyone who plays Helldivers 2 knows it’s satire. We don’t actually support authoritarianism, we just like killing shit, looking like badasses, and using proportional responses to threats. And, of course, the satire.

Lately, there’s been a noticeable rise in users creating political threads in subreddits where it clearly doesn’t fit the context. I’m not naming specific subs (since I’ve had mods twist my words into “rule violations” just to get rid of me), but I’ve seen posts that have nothing to do with the actual subject of the sub—just blatant political content being shoehorned into spaces that aren’t meant for it.

What makes it even stranger is the behavior of some of these accounts. They repeat the same patterns across multiple communities, often posting similar content with no real engagement. It was suspicious enough that I started using external AI tools—Grok, ChatGPT, and HIVE Moderation among them—and the analysis came back with an 80–90% likelihood that some of these accounts are bots.

At one point, I even tried engaging in a civil conversation on a specific sub, asking follow-up questions as a way to “spot the bot.” A mod jumped into the thread and started trashing me publicly before banning me with a message that literally said, “F off, you are so annoying”—uncensored. And this was from a major sub, too.

Basically, they knew what you were doing and deemed you a threat.

Is it alright if I take this opportunity to petition some of you to help me restore Bourbon France?

r/funnysigns was a favorite of mine. Now it's all protest signs whining about Trump

This is how I got banned from r/army. Non military people were posting anti Trump/anti republican bullshit and I told them that this isn’t the subreddit for that. I called out the mods for allowing these posts and they permanently banned me for no clear violation other than not taking their side.

I saw a thread from a tv show sub where someone asked to please just leave politics out of that sub at least because it was tiring. Someone commented a “well akchtually everything ever is about politics, so this show is about politics and you can’t be upset when people want to talk about it 🤓☝🏼”.

I just got banned from the Microcenter discord because I pushed back against the excessive politics circlejerk going on there. It sucks, because I really love chatting about computers, but liberals have decided it needs to be 80% political propaganda and bashing on conservatives.

I wanted a favorite sub of mine to be politically apathetic, and then got called a fascist for it.

Every subreddit is a political subreddit they just have the rule to ban people they don't agree with.

I love rocket league and there was a post on r/rocketleague saying they should remove the cyber truck from the game because it supports nazism or something. Mind you the car was introduced to the game before any bs happened. Also I’m pretty sure people have paid for the car and skins. Also, rocket league would never take something out of the game and refund the players… epic games is way too greedy to make a move like that. Only sub I frequent that haven’t seen anything political is r/poker. Hopefully I’m not speaking too soon.

We’ll discuss politics here, there and everywhere. Because we don’t have personalities nor a true sense of identity.
