Question Denied boarding with Zipair because passport has my middle initial vs. full middle name on ticket

Today I was unable to board my Zipair flight from SFO to Tokyo because I booked the ticket with my full middle name, while my passport only has my middle initial.

I understand that this was my mistake, but I am shocked that they couldn't fix it at the counter when I was checking in, even though I arrived with almost three hours to spare before takeoff. The ticket agent advised me to try calling customer service and their online help feature, but I got nowhere with either one despite her spending a decent amount of time giving me very specific advice.

Because Zipair has a strict no rebooking policy I get no refund and had to book a new flight for tomorrow without the rest of my family (on United this time, I will have a hard time trusting Zipair again).

I also have not been able to get my return ticket fixed yet, so it's unclear if I will have to also shell out again for a totally new return ticket on my way home.

My questions:

Is this a Zipair issue? A Japanese passport control issue? I have never had this problem before traveling to other countries, and I am curious if it would have been a total non-issue with a more accommodating airline.

Will it matter less on my way back to the US, or is it also critical that my return ticket matches exactly?

Question Should I be concerned with this no plane change/layover?

We are flying to Lihue Kauai for our honeymoon on April 16th-23rd. Should we be concerned about only having that 1 hour layover in Oakland after the no plane change in San Diego? We don’t fly much and have never seen this, any help appreciated!

Booking/Itinerary/Ticketing About to book a bit of an ambitious trip, looking for advice on travelling through Europe.

Leaving from NL (YYT) taking advantage of the very cheap Westjet round trips to Gatwick, Dublin and Paris. I would like to see all 3 countries, but will settle for at least England and France. I figured out the cheapest option for the trans-atlantic legs is to fly in and out of Gatwick, but it is only a few bucks extra to fly to/from Paris as well. I was considering flying into Gatwick and out of Paris, or vice versa. Dates roughly May 26-June 10.

I want to make this a big trip while also being very cost-conscious. It's myself, F and my mother- active, adventurous people. We are interested in pet/house-sitting as a manner of accommodation and are not opposed to hostels either. Will probably treat ourselves to one nice hotel along the way, planning to sleep on transit as well.

I'd like to see Germany, Italy and Spain as well. I was told a Eurail pass is likely what I should get, but wondering how cheap flights would be between these countries. Planning on staying for 12-14 days.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Help Needed Hainan airlines check in help

Hi, I’m flying with hainan airlines from MAN-NRT with a short stopover in Beijing. It’s not until may 5th so I know it’s way too early to actually check In, so I booked my trip via trip.com and every time I try to view my booking on the website I get an error so I’m a little bit worried.

Will I maybe have to check in in person on the day at Manchester airport and if I check in in person will I get my boarding passes for all my flights or would I have to check in again at PEK airport.

Sorry if this post is repetitive or dumb but I’ve never done a long haul flight and I’m usually a ryanair and easyJet warrior where check in is super simple.

Question [TUI] What does the X symbol mean for TUI seat selection? Also, if you do not select seats, but make a reservation together for two, will you be seated together?

The key says that X means “not available.” But I’d like some more information. Why isn’t it available? My first thought would be that the seat is occupied. But, then what is difference between the X symbol and the symbol that clearly looks like a person seated in a seat? So, what does the X mean?

We made our booking together, for two. We do not care where we will sit in the plane, we just want to sit together. So, will we be sat together if we don’t reserve specific seats?

Edit: I forgot to include the screenshot. Here it is.

Help Needed Flying to Japan

My flight lands at 12:35pm in Narita Airport and I’m planning to fly to Osaka as soon as I land. I’m just wondering what time I should book my flight from Narita to Osaka. Do I need to go through immigrations and customs and do all the check in and security again? Or can i just get off my flight and hop onto another? If i have to go through all that again, I know I have to keep in mind the time for immigrations and customs line and then checking in/security. So what time should I book my next flight?

Question Wizz Air delayed our snowboard bag, refuses to compensate, insurance also ghosting — what are our options?

Hey everyone, just wanted to share our experience and see if anyone’s been through something similar or has advice.

We flew with Wizz Air from Copenhagen to Kutaisi in early March. Upon arrival, our snowboard bag never showed up. We reported it at the airport and got an irregularity report. The bag contained snowboard equipment and most of our snowboarding clothes - basically everything for the trip.

We had to buy new clothes (about €800 worth) and rent gear for the week, which wasn’t cheap or fun. Eventually, we sent a formal compensation claim, listing all the documented expenses. Their response? A generic copy-paste message saying they won’t compensate for “consequential damages” like rentals, and they'll only cover 50% of essential item purchases (if anything). The most ridiculous - they even haven't offered to refund the luggage transport fee they charged for the bag that never arrived.

To make things worse, our travel insurance through Revolut (XCover) denied the claim because the baggage tag was under my partner’s name, even though the whole trip was booked under mine and paid with my Revolut card. We’re legally married, same booking, same flight, same insurance plan — but they use that as an excuse to ghost the claim. Their support is basically non-existent.

At this point, we’ve filed a complaint with the EU Consumer Centre in Denmark and are looking at small claims options too.

Has anyone had success escalating something like this? Should we push Wizz Air harder, go to small claims court, or try a chargeback? Any advice appreciated.

Help Needed Layover in Istanbul from a Wizz Air Flight - Will I Make My Connection?

Hey everyone, I'm traveling from London to my final destination with a layover in Istanbul, and I could really use some advice! I have a 3-hour and 35-minute layover, but I'm flying with two separate tickets, so I'll need to go through security again. The good news is I don't have any checked luggage to reclaim, so that should save some time. But given that I have to clear security again and I'm unsure about how long that'll take, do you think I'll have enough time to catch my next flight? I've never done this before, and I'm worried I might be cutting it too close. Any advice, tips, or insights would be hugely appreciated! Will I make it, or am I pushing it with this layover time? What's the security process like in Istanbul? Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Question Extraordinary and ordinary event flight cancellation compensation.

My flight from Mumbai to London on Virgin Atlantic on the 3rd April was cancelled at short notice 5 hours before the flight. This was due to the inbound flight from London to Mumbai having to be diverted to Turkey due to a hysterical passenger who needed medical treatment.

This is an extraordinarily event and I know I wouldn't be allowed compensation.

However the flight suffered technical difficulties on landing at this millitary base. There landing gear broke and had to go through checks. As a result the flight has been stuck in Turkey for 50 hours. This would be classed as an ordinary event as bad maintenance is covered for compensation.

So 2 events are here. I was rebooked automatically by Virgin for the next days flight 24 hours delay. My thoughts are that if their landing gear was not damaged our outbound flight would have been slightly delayed but due to the technical issue got cancelled. Do you think Will I be able to claim for the European compensation of £520 due to delay of 6 hours or more?

Sorry had to remention this was my return flight to the UK, I bought the tickets from Virgin Atlantic website and I meant the UK rulings that followed on from EU261 to UK261. Which converted the 600 Euros to £520 for flights over 1500km and this flight was 7,000 Kms.

Help Needed Flight canceled, both airlines refused to take my case and ping ponged the obligation to the other

Booked a flight with Air France, but operating airline SAS canceled without rebooking. I had to book a new flight myself to meet my 24-hour deadline. Both airlines keep pointing fingers at each other, saying the other is responsible. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get one of the airlines to take responsibility and reimburse me for my new flight?

Air France: "After reviewing your case, I must inform you that since Scandinavian Airlines was the operating airline responsible for the disruption, we are unable to reimburse you for the alternative transportation you arranged."

SAS: "I do understand your concern but as we can see that your originally ticket was issued by another carrier 057 (Air France). Hence, I would request you kindly get in touch with the Air France Airlines."

Question EasyJet changed flight time by 6 hours

I have a flight from Paris CDG to Glasgow booked on May 29th with EasyJet. When I booked the flight the departure time was 19:20. However, yesterday I received an email saying the flight time had changed to 13:50. This new time is pretty inconvenient for me as I have something booked that afternoon. I went on the app to try and change my flight and saw there was one on the same day at 18:50, however it was trying to charge me £115 (for 2 people) to change!

Just wondering if there’s a way to go about this and get it changed without paying so much? It feels pretty unreasonable that they would charge that much considering the flight time change was out of my control

Question Mexican tourist card

Hi, I'm flying to Mexico city for two weeks, I read I need a tourist card FMM

I applied on the website https://www.mexicotouristcard.com/ For the Mexico tourist card 2025. After filling out everything I got an email about my tourist card, there is no download link or anything. What should I do? I don't want to be stuck at the boarder. What am i supposed to do with the email or at the boarder? I didn't even needed to put my passport number in it. Do I just need to arrive in Mexico and they will print me a QR code with the tourist card? I'm flying in may to Mexico city international airport. As it's literally so confusing or can I just do it in person whilst on the airport?

Help Needed Self Check In

Hello everyone I have a flight from Jeddah to Kigali that I booked via trip.com (mistake I know). The ticket said Jed - DXB by Saudia Airlines and DXB - KGL via Rwanda Air. There’s no direct flights so I will have a layover for 4.2 hours at Dubai DXB. I have been sent my e ticket through Saudia Airlines with my entire route and it has the same PNR and booking reference for Saudia and RwandaAir. Yet, Trip.com sent me a confirmation mail just today stating that I have to recheck in DXB so I would require a visa passing immigration and then again to board my final leg. I contacted both airlines and they said that I should just ask the departure counter to ship my luggage to the last destination but I’m afraid if that’s not going to be the case.

Question Krakow TO JFK - Budget airline

Edit, Final Update for anyone who sees this: i tried Air Serbia flight from Krakow to JFK, but their website could NOT process my payment. After confirming the payments (twice over 2 days) had not gone through and tickets were "cancelled" I took it as a sign and went back to the drawing board. I am leaving late night from Krakow to Dublin, staying somewhere cheap to sleep, Dublin to Toronto, and I'll make my way back to Buffalo. Thank you for all the insight.

Hi! I'm working on my return trip from Europe and there are 2 flights within a similar price range. I'm all about trying to save money as I end my trip, but I'm not sure if it's worth the save of ~$100 to book Air Serbia after everything online.

I will be making a flight from JFK to my home city separately, otherwise this flight will be nearer to a thousand. Although there is a KLM operated one and I like Amsterdam's airport but its about $880.

Air Serbia is $439 to JFK || Finnair to JFK is $544

Although as I typed this I just spotted Air Serbia, if I include the flight home on that ticket (it's with the airline I was going to book separately) it's $550 total.

edit: that $550 I was able to confirm was an Expedia, separate ticket booking; the mystery city is Buffalo, NY ... it's an easy guess if u check my profile so 🤷‍♀️

My initial question was Air Serbia has bad reviews everywhere, should I risk it since I have a separate ticket? But I amend it to - they have bad reviews everywhere, should I risk it especially since I can book that price all the way to my home airport?

Thank you for advice... I haven't flown a transatlantic flight since 2016! (And that was lufthansa)

Help Needed Is this something for small claims court?

I recently boarded an Alaska flight to Hawaii and we appeared ready to board when the Alaska Airlines crew made the following announcement word for word: “We can offer $2500 to the first passenger willing to deboard the plane and rebook onto the next flight to Kona.” I accepted this deal and deboarded the plane, with the crew telling me to wait for more information. After the plane departed, I was then told that they could only issue the payment in the form of flight vouchers. I told them that was not the offer that was announced or what I accepted. Both the crew and the supervisor acknowledged that the crew did not announce the deal correctly. They said however, that they would not issue my payment. I am starting to believe the crew intentionally lied to me to get someone off the plane. I not only did not receive the payment that was promised, I was not rebooked onto the next flight. I will now be departing at 6:58 pm instead of 8:24 am and will miss an entire day of vacation in Hawaii. I spoke with three total supervisors, all of who said they understand they made a mistake but will not offer any form of payment other than vouchers.

Is this something I can win in small claims court? I was traveling with 6 family members who all heard the announcement and were excited about the money I was receiving (eye witnesses). Anyone have any insight here?

Question Flying from Koh Samui to Abu Dhabi via Singapore

Flying Bangkok Airways PG-7717 from Koh Samui to Changi Terminal 1. Layover of 4h45min. Then Etihad Airways EY-499 from Changi Terminal 2 to Abu Dhabi. Both on the same PNR booked via Etihad.

Our to-do's at Changi airport: 1. Buy stuff from Charles & Keith and Soju from duty free 2. Visit jewel

If we get the VFTF, will we be able to leave T1 and visit jewel and then shop before boarding the connection in T2?

Im having a really HARD time changing my avianca ticket x3 we cant fly on our regular flight so I’m trying to change it to a few months later to my home country… Anyways first time I called they gave me an stimated of $700 for changing all three tickets penalties etc… then the guy told me to better wait to see if tickets could go low that way I saved I agree.. call back again early this week bc I did found a cheaper ticket of 1,880 for all three tickets.. they wnted me to pay $900 for all three tickets a very rude lady! A joke! I just hang up. And called again next morning.. this other lady was able to help me saw the tickets did the change which I was right way more cheaper than the first time! I had to pay only $649 for penalties I told her I couldn’t do thru the app bc it wasnt letting me, she was able to get the tickets and at the end she was having trouble for the payment so she told me someone was going to call me back in 30mins… (Never happend) I called back talk to another lady! Then she come up for the same ticket for $691 I told her I talked to someone 30 mins ago and said another price! Then she came to say is subjet to change bla bla bla! I am looking the same ticket for $1880 how can it be more than they told me before, am I missing something? I don’t get it.. I can’t changed anything in the website anymore neither the app bc they already touch everything so I dont have access! I am thinking they are charging me for a flex fare instead of a classic one! Bc everytime they say the tickets are $53/$57 more when I can clearly saw the classic fare for those $649 in total was only $30 more… I feel they are just lying to me not to get that fare and they are still leaving me with the classic fare…. Idk what to do yes! Is only $42 more but still is money!!! Any advice!!! I’m so drainned talking to all these ladies bc they are sooo rude! They won’t even let you talk! And I don’t take it All they say is fare is subject to change and space I GET IT! I am paying the penalties for changing tickets! But come on! If I am looking at the ticket its there!!! Any advice?

Help Needed Travelling to Turkey with my wife and 3-4 month old infant.

When booking the tickets I will choose sit on lap.

But do i need a car seat for him or any other mandatory equipments required by airlines or Canadian government?

And for walking in the airport does the bodywear for infants work good ? Or a small portable stroller?
