Announcement "Is this a good deal?" posts are not allowed on /r/Lexus

Announcement for /r/Lexus: "Is this a good deal?" posts are not allowed on /r/Lexus. This primarily refers to posts that include an image of the car and the price or a sale paper, and a title along the lines of "Is this a good deal?" with no further context or information provided. This may also refer to text-only buying advice posts that include only a few sentences in the body text of the question post and nothing more.

If you would like to seek purchasing advice from this subreddit, please be thoroughly detailed in the post's body text (or in a top-level comment if you're unable to add body text to the post). Our general requirement for the length of this description is 400 characters (or about 2 paragraphs) give or take. This length requirement is in order to ensure that subreddit members can receive the most accurate advice possible (as purchasing a vehicle is no small financial decision) and in order to prevent the forum from being flooded with low-quality posts.

Questions that ask for advice on a specific model of a Lexus vehicle are exempt to this length requirement so long as the post explains that model-specific advice is needed. If the only factors considered by the question are the vehicle's mileage and/or price, then it would be more fitting for the question to be asked on /r/askcarsales or /r/whatcarshouldibuy.

For more information on these policies, please refer to rules 7, 10, & 15.

Vehicle Photo If you don’t look back, you bought the wrong car. My 2013 GS 350 RWD is turning out to be one of my favorite cars. Drives beautifully, sounds fantastic, handles well, and looks like a million bucks all the time.

Question What makes the GX so popular?

Was at the dealer today getting service and ended up chatting to a sales guy for a bit, I am in the market for an SUV and really only the GX from Lexus stands out to me. Combination of price and style but it’s still a little steep in price.

The sales guy said they can’t even keep one of these long enough to put it on the showroom. Every time they get an allocation from the factory the car is already reserved before it even gets loaded into a ship for delivery here, maybe even before it rolls off the assembly line he said.

So what gives? Yes these are nice vehicles but they’re pretty expensive for their size.

When I turn my wheel left or right a tiny light illuminates my turn at night. At first I thought it was activated by using my signal, but it’s only if you turn the steering wheel.

Finally decided to let go of my LS430, still love it to bits but it's not really feasible for me to keep throwing endless money keeping it in decent shape, also verybthristy but I knew that going in.

At the same time I listed the LS on sale, this GS450h showed up on my watch list and it almost seems like fate, reasonably low KMs, full Lexus service history, hopefully it'll give me many years of trouble free cruising :)

Question Not branded by Lexus, but what are yours thoughts on the XX50 Toyota Avalon (fifth-generation)?

Pardon for being a little off-topic here, since the car is not exactly branded by Lexus, but what did you guys think of the latest Toyota Avalon? I don't think it would feel out of place in a Lexus dealer, even design-wise.

This thing geniunely feels like a luxury car branded by a non-luxury automaker. It's gorgeous, quieter than a library, super smooth and comfortable to sit in and drive (with surprisingly spirited steering), and the interior itself is so lavish that it geniunely puts many luxury vehicles to shame. There's also a unique yet classy door armest design, and even soft-touch materials surrounding the cupholders in the center console.

It even had sequential turn signals, Yamaha-crafted wood and/or aluminum interior trim (depending on grade, and they're both real), cornering headlights, a 14-speaker sound system worth of 1200 watts (with completely new hardware, software, and structure never done by a mainstream automaker), laser ablation for the front and rear, connected taillights, and leather mixed with beautiful suede inserts for the 'sport' grades.

The Limited can even get quilted leather on the doors and seats. That Cognac leather option also amazes me, and it's such a gorgeous color combination from a non-luxury automaker. The Touring also had the same AVS sourced from the current Lexus LS and LC.

The 2019 Avalon was also one of the world's first production vehicles with compatibility for Amazon Alexa, aside from the Toyota Motor Corporation's first application for Apple CarPlay. It's a shame that Toyota not only neglected it, but nobody remembers it. The car has been replaced by the fastback Crown.

Question Backseat centric Lexus LS?

Does lexus make any models after 2016 that are competitors to the higher end Maybach S-classes? i know their are LS "L" models from earlier years with tvs in the back and reclining seats , was trying to see if there was anything newer. Going to be getting driven around for the forseeable future (license suspended) and would much rather have a Lexus than a Maybach S-class but that's seeming like the only option for a back seat centric experience that isn't super outdated.

Question Is this a Good Buy? 2004 Lexus RX330

Upvotes

Helping a family friend to purchase an older used Lexus. Will be a second vehicle for them. Have found one that is asking $4500 with 160,000 miles (257,500 km). The speedometer is actually in miles which is strange for us Canadians but workable I think? Came from Arizona 2 or 3 years in and the current owner has had it ever since.

There is some rust on the hood, tires are old, cracked windshield, front wheel drive. No accidents. Says the vehicle runs very well and looks in good condition inside and out in the photos.

The owner has confirmed that the timing belt has not been changed thus far.

To me this seems pretty well-priced but looking for some feedback from those who know this vehicle better than I do. Are there other potential issues we should be asking about for this age/mileage Lexus? TIA

Question RX 350 showing me "TRAC OFF"

I have the check engine light on with a message "TRAC OFF". I went to Auto Zone to get the car scanned, and they detected a code indicating a fault in thermostat unit. However, when I brought the car to my mechanic, he looked into this and told me there was nothing wrong with the thermostat as the temperature gauge and AC/heat work as it should. He further mentioned that the check engine light could possibly be due to a faulty temperature sensor. I was wondering if anyone has experienced something like this in your Lexus. I know one common cause for "TRAC OFF" is faulty or loose gas cap, but can it also be caused by a dirty gas cap? Mine is not the cleanest, so just wondering if this could be a reason.

I would like to know your thoughts on this (and possibly get any advice on how to proceed).

Discussion How does Mercedes Benz get away with so much cheap plastic and piano black? While Lexus gets little credit for its interior quality

Mercedes is well known for filling their cars with cheap plastic and the fingerprint magnet piano black throughout the cabin.

Lexus, on the other hand, has leather or at the very least soft-touch decent-quality material in all commonly touched areas. There’s very little cheap plastic (usually found in lower areas you would almost never touch or even see). Even Lexus’s cheap plastic feels slightly more solid than Benz’s.

Yet Mercedes is praised by car reviewers and general public alike for having a better interior than Lexus. And Mercedes charges such a high premium (its compact sedan C class is literally a few thousands bucks more expensive than Lexus’s midsize sedan ES). I know they have more prestige and better tech but still.

I really like these. Bought some more to add to my LX470 and gift them to my family. Oil changes are super clean. Just connect a tube to the valve and directly lead into a catch pan.
