Living in Liverpool I’m just looking for friends
I’m 30 female and have lived in Liverpool for around a year. I’m originally from Manchester. I’m divorced from a marriage in the US, and moved to Liverpool in February of last year. I’m just looking for some friends preferably female, I’ve used bumble but most in my age group are either getting engaged, married etc. and I’m struggling to relate just being in a completely different timeline and I’m feeling a little isolated. I work 100% remote and just wondered to give this a shot. I love learning and trying new experiences, I’ve been to sefton park for a Latin American event and an Irish festival. I love cocktail bars, I’m open to anything like yoga or personal development. I love nature, I’d loved to go on some hikes and to go to the seal island in Liverpool (forgive me I don’t know what the proper name is) I love the theatre too, I went to the ballet last year. Just wondered if anyone had the same interests?

Food / Restaurants / Takeaways The Font and Dough Bar closing
Given I graduated 23 years ago, I'm far from their target audience but genuinely sad to see these places go. Dough Bar especially has been a nice chilled friendly welcome home with decent scran and cheapish drinks the many times we've got the train back into Liverpool last few years. Seriously gonna miss that aspect but for cheap bars and pub food for students they're gonna be missed. Closing for good on the 21st April if anyone wants to get in and say goodbye....I know I've got bonus points on my app I need to cash in haha

General Question Latin music bars and clubs where you can dance?
Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone knew of any active bars and clubs where you can dance that play Latin music. I know about Revolución de Cuba but you can’t really dance there. Are there any clubs that play reggaeton and similar?
Thank you so much!!

Living in Liverpool Some woman tried to follow me into my house
I went out tonight, and when I got home, a homeless (?) smack head tried to follow me inside my house after I unlocked the door and went in.
She followed me up the steps, and when she got to the front door I noticed her and told her “this isn’t your place, get the fuck outta here” and when she walked off she began grumbling at me as if I was the asshole.
If you’re in anfield look out, not sure if she’s still around. 40’s/50’s, slim build, brown hair with a long black coat on

Open Discussion Starting something to support Liverpool artists (and I could do with some input)
Alright folks, I’ve just launched a little project I've decided to call LAD (Liverpool Arts Development) and thought it might be something some of you are into.
It’s not a business or a charity or anything like that. It’s basically just me (so far) trying to do three things:
1. Help Scousers get into the arts
2. Get local artists to collaborate more
3. Encourage people to actually go out and see local art
I’m starting with a TikTok and Instagram account (@liverpoolartsdevelopment) with a view to producing stuff like:
* Behind the scenes stuff with local artists.
* Interviews where people share their process & how they got into the arts.
* Roundups of what's on this week.
It’s all pretty DIY. I'm basically just trying to make the Liverpool arts scene feel a bit more open and connected.
If you’re an artist, know one, or just want more reasons to get out and see stuff in the city, have a look and tell us what you think.
And if you’ve got suggestions (events, venues, people to speak to) I’m all ears. If you're a local artist I would especially love to chat as I'm trying to get things in the diary so the only post on my page isn't just me ranting about the new Beatles film casting.

General Question Best gardens near Liverpool?
I went to one a couple of years back.. not sure if it was west Kirby, paid entrance, cafe before you get to the gardens and I can’t remember the name of it to save my life.
If anyone knows what I’m on about help please, and also can I have recommendations for the best gardens in or around Liverpool? :)

Activities in Liverpool Volunteering
Are there any volunteer opportunities in the City centre like soup kitchens, litter picking, washing graffiti, etc.? I'm aware of Friends of Sefton and Princes Park that organize litter picking but would like to be more centrally located if possible.

General Question Sports in Liverpool
Hey everyone, sorry to repeat this similar question but struggling to get find information on some old posts or new posts without many replies.
I've just moved to Liverpool and I was wondering what sports are big around here that isn't football?
I've joined a few hiking groups that meet irregularly and looking into joining a volleyball team, but still wanted one more to make me get out of the house.
Appreciate any hints or leads you may have !

Dog muck is doing my head in
I know it's not a new issue and that there has always been lazy shithouses who think it's fine to let their dog snap one off outside your front gate but is it me or has it been worse lately? Everywhere I walk I'm dodging a pile of shite. Not small ones either, ones that look like they were dropped by a lion. Not even at the side of the path or under a bush or whatever but right in the middle of the pavements which everyone, kids, parents with buggies, those in wheelchairs or mobility scootets uses every day. Do they have no shame or no respect? Does their mum still wipe their arse for them as I can think of no other explanation why someone would feel like it was not their responsibility to clean up after your dog? Do they think the tooth fairy has a friend called the dog poo fairy?
Next person I see do this I will make them pick it up with their bare hands if I have to.
If this is you, start cleaning up after your pets you absolute mings.

Living in Liverpool Beetham Plaza
Hi all,
I am looking to buy a flat in Beetham Plaza on the Strand. Just wondering if you guys have any experience living there. Is it a nice place? How is the management company? Are there any known issues? I saw some articles about the owner, so I am a bit cautious. I also saw a lot of the scaffolding still in place. Any news on when all the works might be finished?
Thanks

Buying / Selling Looking for a house 180K budget
Hi everyone,
I’m new to Liverpool — just moved here a few weeks ago — and I’m currently looking to buy a freehold house with at least 2 bedrooms. My budget is around £180K.
I’d really appreciate any advice on which neighbourhoods you’d recommend within that price range. I’m hoping to find a nice, safe area and would like to avoid places that are known for being less pleasant to live in.
Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Open Discussion Your ideal pub
I’ve seen a lot of posts on this sub about how Gutman pubs and JSM owned pubs all look the same, etc.
So what would your ideal pub have? In terms of design etc.. would you want a modern pub or a Victorian style pub, maybe a Tavern?
What would a pub feature for you to be like “yeah that’s sound”
Nothing too extreme like “free drinks”, some realistic expectations.
(No I’m not opening a pub, I wish I could)

Open Discussion Silkhouse Court Warning
TL;DR: Do not, under any circumstance rent or buy a flat in Silkhouse Court.
There have been a couple of posts on this sub recently regarding the Silkhouse Court apartment block in Liverpool city centre. So, I thought that I would share my thoughts on Silkhouse Court as a warning to others. Hopefully those considering Silkhouse Court in the future will find and read this post.
I know four people who have rented in Silkhouse Court over the past year, including my partner, as such I have spent quite a bit of time there myself. Unfortunately, the Silkhouse Court and in particular the building management are absolutely terrible, some of the issues are outlined below:
1) Lifts: there are two lifts in Silkhouse Court. For a few weeks both lifts were broken. Now bear in mind that this is a 14-floor block so this rendered flats inaccessible to anyone with mobility issues. Furthermore, my partner needed something fixing in her flat and the maintenance man could not attend as he could not climb the stairs due to a health condition. One lift has been 'fixed', but the other lift remains broken and has been for at least half a year now. As of last month the 'working' lift would almost always malfunction such as not moving when a button is pressed for the lift to come or missing floors. There was even a sign on the lift at one point that if you went to the second floor you may get trapped.
2) In November 2024, there was a major water leak at Silkhouse Court. This resulted in flooding from the fourth floor downwards. The fire brigade attended and shut off the water supply. The management company Xenia Estates said that the electricity had been turned off due to the dangers of the flooding. However, the electricity was still on to random parts of the building, despite water pouring out of some electrical fittings, this obviously caused safety concerns. Residents had to evacuate the building and were advised to find accomodation elsewhere. Residents were let back in a few days later. A similar major water leak occurred in 2020 according to the Liverpool Echo. There is also a story of another major water leak at another Xenia-managed block during 2023.
3) There appears to be a really high call out rate for the fire brigade to this block. I have seen them on at least three occasions at the building dealing with various issues. Their presence obviously added to safety concerns.
4) The front doors to the block have been broken for a significant amount of time. Access is now through a side entrance which usually has a lot of litter outside. Furthermore the door at the side entrance sometimes stays open meaning that anyone can access the building.
5) There have been issues with homeless people getting into the building. A homeless person was sleeping on the stairs. Whilst they of course need somewhere safe to sleep, it was very concerning especially for young women in the building who were forced to use the stairs due to the lifts being broken. People have had to step over homeless people in the middle of the night to access their apartments.
6) The communal areas of Silkhouse Court were extremely dirty and the maintenance is poor. There were suspicious looking brown stains on the walls of the stairwell. The tiles in the bottom of the 'working' lift were broken. The paintwork is stained and scuffed in the communal areas and generally the area has not been kept up to scratch.
7) The apartments in Silkhouse Court are incredibly cold to the point where it's really uncomfortable. The seals around the windows are very poorly done and therefore any hot air easily escapes the building. The heaters do not help much and the moment they are turned off the biting cold comes back again.
8) Xenia Estates manage the block and are terrible at doing so. I would encourage everyone to Google them and judge for yourself on their track record. They seem to have little regard for the health and wellbeing of residents. There are numerous articles online about various incidents at Xenia managed blocks across the country. I would advise you to avoid any Xenia managed apartment block.
9) Qube Residential rent out a number of the apartments in the building. Multiple people I know have had huge charges for cleaning and decorating after they have moved out which are completely unjustified. Even if you keep the flat clean and tidy, they will charge you for cleaning and repairs regardless.
