Don't worry. There is always some Japanese or Korean guy with a half-naked anime waifu with horns who will save the day for you. Trust me.

In World my first Alatreon kill (after about 10 tries) me and a hunter friend I frequently play with SOS’d and had two joiners. One of them proceeds to cart 3x but luckily had insurance. He then dropped himself from the fight (probably embarrassed and didn’t want to quad cart) and it was us 3 remaining. My friend had to dip mid fight to take care of his crying infant. He parked his character in a far corner of the arena praying he didn’t cart and went to handle his IRL business.

The other joiner was a Japanese guy, unfortunately not a waifu with horns, but it was a male avatar hunting with the hammer that looked like a cooked roasted turkey leg. After about 5 minutes of us 2-manning Alatreon, my buddy miraculously returns unscathed and we proceed to 3-man it successfully.

This was my ultimate experience with the Japanese savior. May you have many stories such as these to tell in the future. Good luck and God speed

I love these kind of MH stories. They only happen a handful of times, but they're some of the best gaming memories.

Mine was fighting Barioth for the first time in Tri. Just me and one other guy hitting it for the full 50 minutes, unable to take it down. We used up all our resources, and could see the timer coming down to the last seconds. In a last ditch effort, he threw down a trap, but there was only one tranq between us. I threw it, but it wasn't enough. In frustration, I (great sword) threw one last lvl 3 charge hit to its face, and that was just barely enough to bring its HP under the threshold and knock it out.
I literally got up and danced around the room I was so stoked. We added each other as friends and never talked again.

not sure if this is a hot take anymore but i prefer longer hunts. they feel super satisfying and ACTUALLY give me that “every monster is a boss” feeling.

so far ive had fewer than a handful of fights in Wilds that have lasted more than twenty minutes.

edit: i hope this doesn’t come off as a brag. I don’t really identify as a sweat.

Tbh, Zoh Shia hard rank has been giving me the business, and this comes from being able to man handle a tempered arkveld solo longsword and with lance.. either weapon i can handle it but zoh shia… mf hits like a fuckin 10 ton train

Yeah, when I installed the update I went straight to Zoh Shia and I was surprised how hard it hits sometimes... Luckily a beetle on a toothpick (I'm calling Insect Glaive that) is an annoying weapon for monsters

Using RSS on it is also a great way to farm blackember mass

Zoh Shia takes me a LONG time to solo. I have a hard time reaching the wings to break them and keep breaking them to get into the second phase. But so far I've only carted once

Charge Blade block ftw. Seriously saves me so often.

This made me so excited. I've been on the river for the last 3 days and tomorrow I go home and sit for a couple days before getting up at 5am daily again(thank god for Florida rain sometimes) arkveld was kinda difficult the first couple times then I learned his moves and can perfect Dodge everything (DB) so I'm excited to get my ass whooped

Nuh, I get this. I was running with this awesome SOS group (this is my first MH game) and we dropped tempered Gore in ~8mins. 🤣 The Zoh Shia fight is next level and I'm loving it - been using a HBG and LBG (to paralyze), as I'm a bit too scared to go in with longsword or switchaxe atm.

If your familiar with it try cb you can cover a whole lot with the shield I really liked the fight with it

I was actually surprised how well switchaxe works vs Zoh Shia. Tempered Gore still carts me once in a while with it. But Zoh? It feels like a great match up imo. Perfect counters in sword mode work vs most of his attacks, including his fireballs (not his standing aoe blast), you'll get fireblighted, but take like no damage.

His giant delayed slam gives you enough time to get back to axe mode if you aren't in it and offset it. His running charge move? Offset or counter. Even if he doesn't get offset knocked you take very little damage and he fully passes and his hitboxes are gone by the time its over. Unless you are by a wall and he get stuck. The counter ends with the swing hitting his tail.

Using the forward axe charge and switching moves to cover distance without putting your weapon away to avoid his attacks works really well. His wylk + fire attack where you need to get behind him, I'm first there with the swaxe even if I was hitting his head.

Atm Zoh is driving my Swaxe usage statistics up up up.

So wilds is my first MH game and I was a little overwhelmed with the game at first cause the combat (and the controls) are unfamiliar to me. I am generally an aRPG, looter shooter or rts player. But once I got some guidance from a friend who is aMH vet and starting digging into the game, I've been running very quick hunts. Im only rank 68 or so but the new update, particularly the new zoh Shia fight has me frustrated lol. He truly does feel like a boss fight now.

I started hunting the other monsters on the map first cuz I always had a bunch of time left

1

u/fattylis 2d ago

You don't really need longer hunts to achieve that tbh. That's why there's monsters like Alatreon and Fatalis where it's just you two in an arena with a little shorter timer. So contact uptime is high and you also have to perform well.

1

u/Awkward_Shower6341 2d ago

never fought those guys in World

1

u/Fatality_Ensues 2d ago

No, it IS true, Wilds as it launched is even less challenging than World (or at least, hunts take even less time). In World even filler monsters were a threat when you switched biomes, at least until you got your new drip on. I spent half of Wilds' HR wearing partially upgraded LR armor, and it's NOT because I'm some godly player who never gets hit.

1

u/Vegetable-Sky1873 1d ago

Nah don't worry you are absolutely right. The hunts are just generally much shorter in Wilds. Even my friend who is a casual player and not a sweat at all says so. It definitely feels better when hunts take some time because they truly feel like a boss then. And that's one of the best feelings when you take down a monster after an intense 35-40 min battle. In Wilds it doesn't feel as rewarding when even the hardest battles take about 20 minutes max :(

My newest favorite memory is when I joined a Zoh Shia SOS. I drank both my mega potions and dash juice as I rode my Sekreit to the arena. I jumped off and started attacking his tail with switch axe (after rolling a couple times since I've been rocking Mizus armor and weapon combo). Zoh Shia then does an attack and the quest fails as he carts the 3 other players immediately. Total quest time? 2 minutes and 16 seconds.

I miss Tri Online. I was semi famous online as the Pirate Captain. I would join any and all quests for Jhen Mohran when the sandstorm appeared in LocLac. And proceed to use the text chat typing like a Pirate captain during the quest. I actually maxed out my friends list because of it. And any time someone would invite me to play, it was always when a Sandstorm was happening and I was like “Fuck ye, me matees! Time to set sail on them there high seas!(sands)”

Some people worked together and brought back Tri online if you're interested. There's a video on YouTube somewhere.

u/ChibiWambo 1d ago

I am in fact interested! I have research to attend to! Tomorrow I mean, its 1:30am and I am ready for the sleeping

Imma make a sticker of that quote, awesome🫡

Sounds like you miss being recognized rather than Tri.

u/ChibiWambo 2d ago

I miss Jhen the most. He was my special boy

u/stopwhining27 2d ago

I never saw Turkey Leg-San again either!

2

u/thereIsAHoleHere 2d ago

That's sadly pretty common since World. Before then, you were stuck in a room with the same three people taking turns picking quests, so you were forced to get to know each other. Made the game feel much more personal. Now it's just a faceless crowd you see for five to ten minutes before they fade into the void.

1

u/quadrxu 2d ago

except the people who are afk in the lobby for hours on end somehow never entering solo mode…

1

u/Emperor_Z16 1d ago

I was once called gay slurs and such for no reason at all 👍

u/thereIsAHoleHere 1d ago

Bad story.

u/Emperor_Z16 1d ago

I know

u/Eddie919 2d ago

Gods I’ve got a similar story.

I was trying to do Fatalis while rocking Dual Blades. And I was getting my shit kicked in constantly. To the point where 90% of my fatalis armor parts were coming from plunderrang exclusively.

No real luck in SOS flares except for one attempt.

Was going in just trying to survive and eventually a single Japanese GUNLANCE player joined me, with an average looking male character and proceeded to basically solo the entire fight since I had swapped to a guard focused charge blade just to survive.

Dude was popping emotes off like he was 100% happy to basically carry me, and I never saw him again. I love MH players.

28

u/stopwhining27 2d ago

Haha emotes while basically soloing Fatalis, classic Japanese savior behavior

u/Fishbone_V 2d ago

Not my first, but it was when Alatreon was still scary for me.

Doing Alatreon runs in MH Tri online, and it's not going well (failed maybe half of the attempts). So this dude joins and immediately posts a quest for Alatreon and readies up. the guy was wielding the Alatreon Hammer and no other gear. We're like "hey you're not wearing any armor? Are you good?" and he's like "I got this".

So me and the other 2 decide to humor the guy since our hunts aren't going great anyway, and sure enough, this dude did not need our help, nor the help from any earthly defenses or armor skills. He rocked the Alatreon so fucking hard and didn't get hit even once. The first two breaks were the horns, solely by this naked dude who got a hit in at every possible moment the Alatreon lowered its head. If anything, the other 3 of us slowed his run down by not just waiting in camp and instead pulling aggro occasionally while Hammer Bro just destroyed this poor Alatreon.

Best hunter I've ever seen. Hope he's doing good nowadays.

u/MichHAELJR 2d ago

This is nice and all but I had a Japanese guy join my quest and help me kill a guy. He then said “You are good “. The. Sent me his guild card.  Best compliment stilll to this day.

u/stopwhining27 2d ago

Nothing beats that feeling when you get the guild card!

5

u/Weezy_Dragon 2d ago

Giant Turkey Leg hammer is best hammer

6

u/stopwhining27 2d ago

I made that hammer right after the fight!

5

u/Weezy_Dragon 2d ago

Nice!
