I love these kind of MH stories. They only happen a handful of times, but they're some of the best gaming memories.
Mine was fighting Barioth for the first time in Tri. Just me and one other guy hitting it for the full 50 minutes, unable to take it down. We used up all our resources, and could see the timer coming down to the last seconds. In a last ditch effort, he threw down a trap, but there was only one tranq between us. I threw it, but it wasn't enough. In frustration, I (great sword) threw one last lvl 3 charge hit to its face, and that was just barely enough to bring its HP under the threshold and knock it out.
I literally got up and danced around the room I was so stoked. We added each other as friends and never talked again.
That's sadly pretty common since World. Before then, you were stuck in a room with the same three people taking turns picking quests, so you were forced to get to know each other. Made the game feel much more personal. Now it's just a faceless crowd you see for five to ten minutes before they fade into the void.
