MH Wilds Bedazzling the Soap Fox

Had a disconnect near the end of the hunt and Mizu glitched out. Hitting it wouldn't get it unstuck so I just took some silly pictures with it before ending its quest

The one Mizutsune not in heat. Man just stopped mid attack and asked himself why is he doing this.

61

u/Rak-Shar 11h ago

Mizu no longer wishes to be horny. It just wants to be happy

13

u/Formula_Carrot 3h ago

You know, I've seen people use the word "heat" twice now. I think being in heat is a term for the female of the species.

Looking into it, the proper term would be in "rut".

"Some male species, like goats, deer, and camels, experience a period of heightened sexual activity and fertility, often referred to as "rut". During the rut, males display more aggressive tendencies and seek out fertile females, often becoming more active and less cautious."

4

u/CrossNJaywalks 3h ago

You're right I should've used rut instead since people here know enough about Mizutsune to make jokes about it. Then again I think rut is a less common word so it might not get across.

2

u/techniscalepainting 3h ago

What? Are all mizutsune horny?

5

u/CrossNJaywalks 3h ago

Yup. All of the ones we hunt are stated to be males in rut. It's why they're so aggressive in the first place.

7

u/techniscalepainting 3h ago

Never knew that, and now I question what all the bubbles are

13

You managed to bonk the mating season out of the mizutsune, so now he's back to his chill usual self. Impressive.

Now I kinda wonder, considering that by nature Mizus are very docile (outside of mating season, which is when we're fighting them in-lore) - to the point that folks in villages would let their kids go to Mizutsune nests because they knew that kids will come back cleaned and will be safe there (I cannot, for the life of mine find that lore bit, but istg I've read and heard it long ago), as well as Mizutsune overall design and its inspirations...

Would Mizutsunes actually like to observe humans dancing? Would they recognise it as a clumsy imitation of their own dance? Would they think of us as of cubs trying to impress them? Would they think we're mocking it?

So many questions so little answers :( We need more monster ecology/behavior lore.

14

u/H_exe92 9h ago

Might be an NPC that mentioned it in older games or the flavour text of a quest!

I know MonHun stories is considered its own canon but among all the monsters I'd consider to be able to be domesticated, Mizu would rank rather high.

I'm hoping we get to see the females eventually. Imaging it would be a Royal Ludroth situation with much smaller, less fancy looking females. Like real life peacocks

19

u/SignalDevelopment649 8h ago edited 7h ago

Not too much smaller, according to the ONLY official concept art of it (one in the middle), but definitely a lot less vibrant. Still as adorable as males are.

They are said to be 100% chill, regardless of the season - and by this logic they fall under guild's protection as either a non-violent monster or as a mother with cubs, so hunting them would be poaching.

But I wish we got to see them in ecology - playing with Mizu babies, just doing things, sleeping, whatnot. Or maybe we get one that lost her mate/cubs and has gone completely berzerk, thus being the first registered aggressive female Mizutsune.

Also omg another Stories fan, hell yeah! While it makes no sense how we can hatch a Soulseer, but damned I'll be if it isn't one of the most fun MH side-games - I always love to see more peaceful co-existence with monsters.

The female Mizu official concept art ^

7

u/H_exe92 8h ago

That Mizu cub in the concept art looks absolutely adorable!!

And yeah it makes sense that the only Mizus that are being hunted are the ones that become dangerous to humans because of hormonal reasons.

Considering how the games show more and more of the monsters more natural behaviours like sharpening claws on trees, feeding and such we might get to see that one day. The only reason we might not see baby versions of monsters is because - well.. lots of people would kill them even if it were just optional because they can now. And I guess the devs don't want to go in that direction. So all we get is info on that aspect of a monsters lifecycle via flavour text and concept art (remember the Brachy, Barioth and Lunagaron hatchling art)

Absolutely adore Stories In Stories defense I guess it is mostly about consistency of how these games work. Basarios and Gravios are the best examples and having an Evolution method that would only affect a very small number of monsties didn't make sense to the devs even if ut would make sense in lore. Still waiting for MHS3 so all the Rise and Wilds monsters can get their time to shine. Also having Oltura appear in a mainline game like Espinas did in Rise would be pretty hype.

3

u/SignalDevelopment649 7h ago

Yep, lil guy is like 40% face, 60% silly. One of my fav concept sketches of all MH lol

Also, yes, makes sense about Monster cubs not being here for that reason. As sad as it is.

I absolutely love Lunagaron sketches, the big Luna carrying and grooming its youth is so cute! (the baby Barioths are absolutely adorable too - and baby Brachy is an absolute goober, in a good way)

Also, your point absolutely makes sense for stories mechanics-wise, given the examples you provided.

But I also thought - sometimes animals can be born blind even if normally they aren't blind at all. Those cubs usually would die, unfortunate as it is - because eyesight is important for many animals, but what if Mizutsune, as species that can, indeed, exist and thrive even without eyesight (old Soulseers that have lost their eyes at some point being examples of it) - maybe a sightless cub isn't doomed, and just grows into a Soulseer from the get-go? Could that work?

I would buy the absolute hell out of MH:ST3, without hesitation, absolutely. We need all the cool monsters that were brought back//introduced in Rise - and having a personal flying Railgun or a belly flop Tuna would be cool as well, so Wilds' monsters are welcome too.

Oltura in the mainline would kinda be difficult, imo. It's HUGE, like Gaismagorm± levels of HUGE, and tends to fly about all the time. We're either have to somehow bring it down to hit it with melee (and logically that'd include breaking the wings) - but with how Oltura is killed (breaking said wings lol) that's be kinda weird. Or it'll put ranged weapons at a huge advantage over melees.

But probably - I'm just not being creative enough. Capcom can definitely cook something up. Definitely wishing for it though!

Idk man, capcom really doesn't seem to have a problem with us merking the babies of the wildlife in Wilds, so I don't see why they'd have an issue with us doing it to the bigger monsters.

Not saying I would of course...who could do such a thing....cough

u/GarboseGooseberry 2h ago

I mean, Nerscilla hatchlings are icky and Nu Yaya/Xu Yo we just grab like Pokemon. Never tried attacking the Dalthydon babies because I'm not a psychopath lol

why mizutsune's eye glows blue?

19

u/H_exe92 9h ago

Because it is very anime.

Real answer: It now has moves and characteristics of a Mizutsune Variant called Soulseer Mizutsune who is blind and attacks with fire bubbles

Basically Regular and Soulseer Mizu were combined into one.

1

u/DanielTeague power bugs > speed bugs 3h ago

The Soulseer Mizutsune is blind until enraged, where this eye opens up and glows.

SOAP FOX xDDDDDDDDDDDD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

-23

u/Agent101g 10h ago

Calling a dragon a fox is an interesting angle

great footage

22

u/RaIshtar 9h ago

Its title in both English and Japanese is literally Bubble Fox Wyvern.

12

u/H_exe92 10h ago edited 10h ago

I mean its shape language and out of combat behaviour is very fox like. I'm sure its inspirations were mostly east asian dragons and foxes and combining them into one

6

u/Miss0verkill 9h ago

The main inspiration behind Mizutsune is the Nine Tailed Fox Yokai from Japanese mythology. The name literally means "Water fox".

It's even more obvious if you look at his name in the Japanese version, Tamamitsune. It's a reference to Tamamo No Mae, who is THE Nine Tailed Fox.

11

u/WildNightingale 10h ago

You also get the title Foxy from it.

1

u/TheYellowChicken 3h ago

Mizutsune is a combination of two words: mizu (water) and kitsune (fox). There ya go, it's a fox, not a dragon
