Europe united against trump

192

u/Thowitawaydave 13d ago

When Elon was trying to muck about in European politics like he did in the US, people were going around posting about MEGA. His followers were going for "Make Europe Great Again" but at the rate they are going it will stand for "Make Europe Ghost America"

Canada too. This is the most united and patriotic I've ever seen the country. It's been decades.

More than half of America's against him too

41

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

Sorry, but no. Unless you mean to include Canada and Mexico, you don’t get to claim this. Not after the election result last November. A plurality actively voted for Trump, but a majority was cool enough with what is now happening to not vote against it. Nobody from the outside is shocked by what’s happening. We tried to warn you (not you personally, but you, Americans). We did warn you. And only a third of those who were eligible to vote (not even a third) voted against it. I do sympathise with those of you who voted against this, who tried to avert this, but you saying that more than half of America’s against him too is simply not true.

And if it was, I’d have to ask: where are your mass protests? How is your country not standing still right now? How come the Nazis in 1930s Germany faced bigger public opposition than Trump and his minions do right now?

I swear the only thing that’s more disappointing than Trump’s return to the White House is the less than lukewarm reaction by the American public.

Please, forgive me if I voice strong doubts right now. The American oppositional response to Trump is an immense disappointment!

We’re not in the streets because we’re so conditioned to believe “someone else will take care of it.” We’re pacified by consumerism, social media, and reality tv so we don’t have to actively see the country as we knew it falling apart. We’re entitled, lazy, and complacent and we don’t have the mental bandwidth to realize we are heading towards a facist regime. There are a lot of us who still think Trump is just talking out of his ass and isn’t actually going to “go that far.” We have too many people fearing that they will lose money from their paychecks or be fired altogether if they leave work to protest. So, people are protesting a few hours on the weekend and returning to their corporate overlords on Monday at 9am sharp. We are so lost and there’s no one here to unite us.

P.S. The 2024 election was rigged by Elon and the subreddit r/somethingiswrong2024 will show you how

13

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

Fuck me that’s depressing…

8

u/g8z05 13d ago

I sit here wishing I could do more. But I have MS and my medication is $27,000/month. Thankfully I have excellent insurance so I only pay a $10 copay. So if I were to leave my job to join protests far away, my health would likely rapidly decline. Corporate America has a lot of us by the balls.

5

u/Noeyesonlysnakes 13d ago

Americans were pacified well before all of that. Kent State took the fight out of the middle class and they never really recovered.

5

u/Burnt_and_Blistered 13d ago

We have a lot of idiots. Most of them didn’t vote at all. Of those who did, barely more than half voted for Trump. And that’s before considering the very clear election tampering is taken into consideration.

It’s a clusterfuck, to be sure. But it’s not as clear as the election makes it seem.

But it doesn’t matter, at the end of the day. Here we are—no matter how we got here—and we have to figure out how to put an end to this before it’s too late.

Bread and circuses, baby. Cheap hot dogs and Love Island. This isn't a new phenomenon.

4

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

Except hot dogs in your stadiums are also fucking expensive. It’s a damn hot dog, there’s no way I’m paying twice as much for one as I pay for a much bigger and tastier Bratwurst in German stadiums.

1

u/Manck0 13d ago

HAHA, I know! I was trying to think of an example. I should have thought harder. :)

1

u/GregOdensGiantDong1 13d ago

People are in the streets in deep red states. Tesla's being burned. Don't count us out yet.

-4

u/LakeSuperiorIsMyPond 13d ago

You're incorrect for one major reason. The turnout for Democrats opposed to trump was almost 20 MILLION less this election and the biggest factor was the disappointment in the Democrat alliance with Israel over the massacre in Gaza. There was a massive campaign of "don't vote if you support Gaza" which led to Trump securing an identical turnout to 2020 and Harris losing a significant amount of certain swing states. Those people are probably really regretting staying home now but, that doesn't mean that they didn't oppose Trump then and still do today. They were just convinced that not voting was the humanitarian choice.

6

u/juice5tyle 13d ago edited 13d ago

Anyone stupid enough to believe that allowing a trump victory by not voting democrat could be considered humanitarian deserves every bit of the condemnation lumped on Trump supporters.

Anyone who claimed to value human life, but valued life in Gaza more than life in Ukraine deserves condemnation.

Activism driven by optics and lacking substance, spooned by Russian disinformation campaigns and Jill fucking Stein.

1

u/LakeSuperiorIsMyPond 13d ago

I agree. I was making that same argument all over Facebook leading up to the election!

7

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago edited 13d ago

Nah, that’s not enough. In fact, that’s even dumber. Everyone and their grandma knew the Republicans would be just as bad on Israel and Gaza as the Democrats, if not worse. If an issue is handled badly by all available options you have to simply disregard that issue from your decision making process. Everyone knew what would happen if Trump won again. Seriously everyone. Staying home quite simply is not an option in such a situation.

“Aw shucks, my country just elected Hitler. I didn’t vote, and many others didn’t either. I simply really hate SPD’s stance on pensions, so I figured I’d not vote for them. Of course I hate what Hitler is doing to German democracy and the Jews, but man, the pension stuff really was a valid reason to stay away from such a crucial election too.”

The choice for this election was very simple: fascism or democracy. Republicans were kind enough to tell you about it before, in not one but two extensive agendas (Project 2025 and Agenda 47). Both were public before. The signs were all there. The fascist moves had happened over the course of the previous eight years. So the choice really was Fascism or Democracy. It was also clear that only Trump or Harris would win.

Everyone knew Trump wasn’t the guy standing for democracy. Under those circumstances you simply vote for the candidate that will preserve democracy. And those who didn’t do that are complicit in what is happening now.

Framing this differently is quite simply insane.

3

u/LakeSuperiorIsMyPond 13d ago

I know! The response I got when arguing this point was just "I can't stand voting for either party, I'm disgusted by both of them right now"

2

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

Literally the dumbest response in the world.

3

u/LakeSuperiorIsMyPond 13d ago

Agreed. Take the 40% of the people I grew up with who are pro trump, the 20% who had this view and didn't vote, and trump almost won Minnesota. The longest running blue state in the US. Gaza had a massive impact. Not as large as misinformation and propaganda on the right but it was still huge. Combine that Elon literally bought THE swing state, Pennsylvania, by paying people to vote red. Elon is another huge part of the problem.

6

u/crisspanda12 13d ago

Not enough bro haha

12

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

The fact that Americans seem to be unable or unwilling to properly protest is fucking disappointing!

See, this is the big thing. When people protest in Paris, it's huge because, it's Paris. When people protest in Raleigh, NC, it's not even a blip. We're too big. Too comfortable. I'd love if the European answers were America's answers, but it's too easy to ignore the things you don't care about. Maybe the answer is to break up, break the union. Make the problems more local. I dunno.

1

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

That’s not it though. See, yeah, sure, it’s one thing to only protest in Raleigh, but it’s a completely different thing of people also keep protesting in other places. You’re not too big. That’s a ridiculous statement in this context. You’re simply not turning out enough anywhere.

When people protest in Marseille, Lille, Lyon, Frankfurt, Munich, Potsdam, Bremen, Hamburg, Halle, or Hanover it’s news, because they don’t only protest in one of those places, but in all the places that are in the country.

It’s not “10,000 people took to the streets in Bremen in protest”, but it’s “last week, 700,000 took to the streets in multiple German/French/Belgian/Italian/Polish etc. cities. They were protesting xyz…”

Your size has nothing to do with it. It’s good that folks protest in Raleigh. It’s even better if it’s all over NC. It’s even better when it’s across multiple states. If folks in Raleigh, Chicago, Seattle, NYC, Boston, Bismarck, New Braunfels, Houston, Phoenix etc… protest, it’s suddenly news. You’ve got to step up your game with that. And you don’t need to concern yourself with the other cities. Focus on your own city. If you’re in Raleigh, hold protests once or twice a week. A big one on Saturday and a smaller one during the week with those who can come. Make posters, bring friends and family and tell each of them to also bring five people and so on. It’s really not that hard. And just keep doing that. Show it on social media. Be active about it. Invite people to join randomly.

But do it.

The reason why nobody gives a shit about a protest in Raleigh right now is because the country can afford to ignore stuff that happens in just Raleigh. Keep doing that, and invite other cities to join in. But that doesn’t happen if you don’t do it. You can’t wait for activists to protest for you. They won’t. You’ve got to do it yourself.

6

u/yellirs 13d ago

I understand your frustration and I agree that more should be done, but in my opinion there are 3 factors preventing mass protests. the main one of these is that americans are stuck in a loop of flat denial because the federal system means that what happens in washington rarely directly impacts people. anything that happens at the federal level can be mitigated by opposing state level infrastructure pretty easily so states who have much more left favoring governments can prevent their people from being harmed through litigation and legal disobedience. this prevents the majority of the likely protesters from feeling the pain immediately

2, people who dont pay attention to whats going on around them (1/3 of the country + also most of trumps base) will not be forced to break out of their conditioned trance until they see stuff that personally impacts them. they are fools without empathy who only interpret things through their own experiences or that or their family members

finally the democrats are not fighting. a lot of people say this is a mistake, but they're not fighting because 1. the sentiment after the election took the wind out of the party and its base's sails. we became disillusioned with our countrymen who betrayed us despite all of our warnings and all our fighting 2. a large percentage of the base and party as a whole is content with the country burning under terrible policies because we have told them 100s of times what would happen and they still didnt listen 3. the democrats have very little power as a minority goverment 4. they have no idea how to reach people who would willingly vote trump in. i hear a lot of complaints about dems not doing enough, but that fundamental question still remains: "how do you get through to someone so engrossed in propaganda that they will deny reality so much that you can barely even hold a conversation?" it is legitimately that bad

to put it succinctly, the protests are hopefully coming. when this destroys our economy and people start to feel it a few months from now, trump voters and anti political bystanders are in for a rude awakening. the democrats are just now getting out of the pity party and the republicans are about to pass insanely unpopular legislation to fund trumps gifts to the wealthy

our government does not work like european governments. there are many moving pieces which keep americans from being actively engaged in politics because the federal system has paralyzed our government and rendered it unable to respond to the wills of the people. if people want to bury their heads in the sand, our system stupidly allows it. they arent protesting because their lives are largely the same as 6 months ago. its exactly why we still have school shootings if some people die or get deported its so far away average voters simply do not care

finally i'd like to point out (as an example of what im talking about) that the most recent mass protests in 2020 against police injustice were largely successful. while leftists didnt get as far as they hoped, police reform has been adopted all around the country. why? because george floyd's death viscerally affected anyone watching it. even the most insane trump cultists could not deny the sheer brutality of watching a man die in the street like an animal at the hands of the police

i hope this provides a reasonable explanation of whats happening in our country. it sounds idiotic to even explain this like it was a valid excuse which it is not. this is just the way it works under the current system which is an embarrasment on the whole

3

u/Manck0 13d ago

That's what I was saying! Lol.

No, seriously, well done. Well reasoned.

2

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

The protests are so small that international news aren’t showing it either. How come protests in fucking Russia, where domestic news don’t report on them either, make international news and American protests don’t? The answer is rather simple: American protests so far are a joke. And that’s not a criticism of those who attend the protests so far. On the contrary, that’s fucking fantastic. But it is a criticism of the millions who say they oppose this but don’t protest.

4

u/LakeSuperiorIsMyPond 13d ago

The protests in Russia aren't making American news, let's digest that.

I'm consuming more CBC (Canada) to get a world perspective lately.

2

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

German news are pretty good at covering relevant protests around the world. Protests in Iran, Russia, Turkey and Serbia make the news, those in the US don’t. BLM did by the way, this isn’t because it’s America. It’s simply because so far the protests are irrelevant. You need to crank it up by multiple factors.

4

u/crisspanda12 13d ago

Yea it’s crazy, it feels like they let it just happen

4

u/IntrepidWanderings 13d ago

To be fair we are now being threatened with transportation to El Salvador of all places... Go figure the colonialism fetish would quietly bring that back. But disappointed, one always wanted to see the Australian zoo...

3

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

Yeah, so, when there was talk about deporting German citizens by the far-right in Germany over a million Germans took to the streets for weeks.

Just saying, what’s he going to do, deport five million American citizens? You’re only vulnerable when you don’t stand together. But right now there are like 100,000 people who actually go out and protest and still 350,000,000 who aren’t. And that’s gotta change. Pronto.

3

u/IntrepidWanderings 13d ago

Trying to get anyone out is a huge task, many are scared but even more are just going along. I live in a maga enclave, anyone who tries to speak out of pretty quickly

1

There's so many maga EVERYWHERE

5

u/LakeSuperiorIsMyPond 13d ago

Americans are protesting, and getting arrested for it.

4

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

Not enough Americans are protesting it, otherwise Trump couldn’t keep arresting those that are. The fact that Americans protesting and getting arrested for protesting doesn’t spark massive outrage and even bigger protests is baffling.

2

u/LakeSuperiorIsMyPond 13d ago

Agreed. There was a protest right near me that I found out about hours after it was broken up by law enforcement.

Break that into two issues. Not enough people know when they're happening and when they do, riot police squash them like a fire that's starting.

3

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

Here’s how you deal with that:

You actively become involved and try to find out who organised the last protest. Help organise the next one. You’ve noticed there’s an issue advertising the protest? Great. Advertise it yourself. Set up social media accounts for that purpose and advertise. Put up posters, hand out flyers… someone has to do it. If you won’t, nobody will.

As for the police breaking up the protests…you should try suing. Your freedom of assembly is protected under the first amendment. You have a constitutional right to assemble and voice your opinion. If your protest is broken up like that, sue the state. I have little faith in the American justice system, but I have enough faith to tell you that there’s at least a solid chance that you win your suit. Take it to SCOTUS if necessary. This is a fundamental enough question to force them to actually talk about it. Let them state outright that opposition is illegal if that’s what they wish to do, but force them to actually do it.

The goal is to make shit uncomfortable for them by whatever means necessary. This is your way of doing that. Be uncomfortable.

1

u/kitkatmath 13d ago

Some of us are so baffled, I mean, how do you protest a clown? How do you respond to nonsense?

4

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

By taking to the streets, not doing your jobs, organising socially to make sure people can afford to protest and possibly lose their jobs (aka pool your money) and bringing the country grinding to a halt. The only way those in power will listen is if it costs them, and the only way it’ll cost them is if you stop earning them money.

2

u/kitkatmath 13d ago

Is it wrong to fantasize about this as an American?

5

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

No, but it would be even greater if you (aka the supposedly sane parts of the American public) did your part and started protesting appropriately?

How come the french will burn shit when some politician sneezes the wrong way, and how come hundreds of thousands to millions of Germans took to the streets for weeks when some politicians who weren’t even in power talked about deporting German citizens/revoking the German citizenship of the opposition and those they don’t deem German enough, but you (as in Americans) let Trump openly demand deportations of American citizens to El Salvador and nothing happens?

This was Frankfurt in early 2024:

3

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

This was Berlin:

Where are your protests? Don’t wait for activists to protest for you. They won’t. You have to protest. So do your part and stand united with us against Trump, and do it publicly.

1

u/kitkatmath 13d ago

We marched in 2016, it didn’t affect our brethren on the right and they voted that rapist back into office. How do you gain anything by protesting against your fellow voters when it just confirms to them that anyone with an education is a crazy leftist? Seriously, I’m open to ideas

3

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

You don’t. But by protesting you also show the others who disagree that there’s more of you. You make the apathetic folks question why you’re protesting and some will create their own stance. Also…the marches in 2016 were cool and all, as was BLM, but your current protests haven’t even reached BLM levels. You need to not just reach it, but surpass that.

And I know it can be frustrating, but protesting and turning out is still your best course of action. But if you don’t turn out and keep turning out, nobody will. Be active. Invite folks to protests, advertise protests. Bring friends and tell them to bring friends and to tell these friends to bring friends and so on. It’s clear that not nearly enough people are becoming active right now. Be the person who does.

1

u/kitkatmath 12d ago

Those BLM protests were the exact thing that got so many people to turn against the idea of progressivism and toward Trump: “See? Those people are crazy and violent. We need Trump to restore law and order”. We need a sneakier, 2025 response to this situation.

2

u/crisspanda12 13d ago

Join us, unlike in the us everybody is welcomed

1

u/523bucketsofducks 13d ago

America divided against Trump, we tried to stop this shit.

1

u/crisspanda12 13d ago

You guys literally did the worse job

-1

u/drMcDeezy 13d ago

Most of the US didn't want him either

8

u/PeppermintEvilButler 13d ago

Except a large majority didnt bother to vote.

9

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

That’s not true. Only less than a third didn’t want him. Slightly more than a third actively did want him, and the final third was at least cool enough with the idea of this happening that they didn’t vote against it.

And now that it happened, “most of the US” is doing fuck all to voice their displeasure? Where are the protests? Why is that country not at a standstill? How come the Nazis faced greater opposition than that in the early 1930s?

0

u/drMcDeezy 13d ago

More people voted for not him than for him....

2

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

That’s not enough. More people voted not at all than against him. You have to count those. If you are eligible to vote and don’t despite there being clear signs that shit like this will happen, you are very much complicit in allowing this to happen in a democracy.

-6

u/kitkatmath 13d ago

But did they face that opposition within the first two months of the Nazi rule? And were the nazi’s getting shut down by the courts left and right? Seriously, I don’t know the answer to this but that’s what’s happening here

3

u/TheCatInTheHatThings 13d ago

Yes, they did, but thousands.

My great great grandpa was one of them. He was also a politician. The Nazis kept imprisoning him and he refused to shut up. Still took them until 1945 until they had killed him eventually.

-2

u/crisspanda12 13d ago

Yea I hear you, all the liberals can come unite against trump as well hahaha

0

u/Starting_Aquarist 13d ago

Idk, you have Connor McGregor running for Ireland president
