Discussion How to follow fire red in generation order?

Hi, I just finished pokemon fire red, it being my first pokemon game. Really liked it, sometimes maybe a bit too grindy in order to level up pokemon but otherwise amazing game. I want to play the games in order but honestly I'm a bit lost with all the remakes and generations there are. My idea was to play based on pokemon generation order, so start with gen 1 with charmander, squirtle and bulbasaur as starters, then gen 2 with chikorita, cyndaquil and totodile, and so on. The thing is I don't really know if this is chronological order or even the "right" order to play them (I know there is no "right" order). I just want to experience every gen.

What would you recommend I play after finishing pokemon fire red? I need help :D

Discussion Does anyone know where I can get a Rattata piñata

I just wanna run upstairs to the party from the basement or wherever the piñata is being held and just scream “I JUST SAW A GIANT RAT!” And if they ask how big it was ima be like “IT WAS HUGE!” And then they’d all follow me expecting to see this giant rat only to find a Rattata piñata held up. They’d all hate me afterwards but it’d be the best Pokemon themed birthday ever 😭

Discussion Which characters in the anime addressed Ash as "son"?

I made a post like this on an old account, so I figured that I might do a soft reboot. I still know that only a few characters did this, but I wanna know if there's more. The ones that I know of are the following: Delia (Pokémon Emergency) Ethan (Get Along, Little Pokémon) Chuck (Machoke, Machoke Man) The Captain (Hoenn Alone) Don George (A Rival Battle For Club Champ) Bianca's Father (Enter Elesa, Electrifying Gym Leader) Ramos (Thawing An Icy Panic) Mayor Oliver (Pokémon the Movie:The Power of Us)

Note: The Captain addressed Ash as "son" twice in Hoenn Alone. "Is this your first visit to Hoenn Region, son?" and "Easy, son. I'm sorry if I scared you. Is there something wrong?"

Did I miss anybody? Tell me which character and what episode or movie they did it in. Thank you.

Discussion Pokémon Tournaments St. Louis MO

Hi all. I am not at all familiar with the current cards or tournament structure at all. I do however have a small store front flex space in South County MO(nothing with cards or Pokemon) that I can use for different things. Would anyone be interested in walking me through the business side of tournaments. Where you would earn income. Is it membership based, tournament fee, merchandise, ect? I am not looking to get rich just cover the cost of the space. I would even be ok with partnering with someone to run the Pokémon side. I am set up for other types of tournaments with streaming, good lighting, sound and tv/projectors around the room.

Discussion Could I actually become a World Champion?

Ah, gotta love that hit of 3 AM existential dread where everything feels hopeless. So, it recently came to my attention that Wolfe Glick was 21 years old when he first became a world Champion. I'm 19 and I barely know anything about competitive Pokémon. I know people typically get worse at competitive gaming with age so now, I'm low-key freaking out because I'm wondering if I'll even be able to keep up with the competition by the time I'm experienced enough to play. Being a World Champion had been my biggest dream for, like 6 years, and I want to make it happen, but there are times, like right now, where it feels like that could never happen, so I kinda just need to talk to someone lol-

Discussion To find my 6th pokemon

(This is not a competitive team its just a team with my favourites pokemons ...) Since ive started to play pokemon i usualy had a team i loved to bringing to the last part of the game and with each new game i would change here and there but no the big change. During gen 7 and 8 there happen the biggest change to my "core" team with Ribombee, Wishiwashi and Corviknight. Now the problem im having is that my 6th member im just not finding anything that clicks with me. So i turn for help on finding my 6th member.

My current team is Haxorus, Ribombee, Wishiwashi, Corviknight and Melloeta

I usualy have 2 rules for my team: no repeating types (i do count melloeta as normal and fighting/psychic) and i like to have a mix of edgy and cute (usualy 3 of each but i dont mind 2 to 4).

I would prefer a dark or a ghost that can mega evolve and that inst in gen 9 but i aint picky

I also would love to know about yall "core" teams if you do have any :D

Ps: im new to this subreddit so if i should post this type of thing here just say it and ill delete it <3

Discussion Old games

With the news that Pokemon colosseum coming to Nintendo Direct, will the Pokemon company ever put the older games on the switch console? I honestly wouldn’t care if they charged original cost of the games to put them on there. I’m sure they would make money hand over fist. They have to realize that many people who grew up playing gens 1-4 now have children getting into Pokemon and might want to revisit their favorite games.

This additional revenue I feel would be beneficial in making gen X both visually appealing and return the storytelling back to Gen 3, 4, and 5 levels.

Discussion How do you think the next Legends game will change?

Unlike many previosly thought, Pokémon Legends isn't excluively about the past's lore, but instead, it's about exploring New concepts with new ludonarrative approaches. We initially thought that Z - A would have been set in the same time period as Arceus, yet it turned out to take place after X and Y, it's set entirely within a city and its battle system is now fully action. And while Legends: Arceus was focused on catching, Z - A will focus on battling, since it takes its name from a Battle Royale.

One of the things Pokémon Legends does is subverting the series' cliches, so you can tell that the next Legends game is going to be even different. Maybe we could get a Legends game without Poké Balls (according to Drayden, he didn't have them when he was young, if it isn't really a retcon, it could be set in past Unova), a Legends where you can trasform in a Pokémon, similarly to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess with Wolf Link, so getting bossfights where this supposed beastly form is mandatory while others with your Pokémon team as always, along with the possibility of using moves based on buttons, a Legends partially set in a new region, like one based on South America if it's about Mew and Mewtwo...

Possibilities are really many, and I'm happy about that. I'd like to see what you think about this and how would you expect the next Legends game to be

Discussion New Pokémon game/trailer thoughts?

Hey all! So I just saw the new trailer for the new Pokémon switch game coming out this year and I wanted to know what everyone’s take on it was. Mine is twofold. While I love Pokémon and will probably still buy it, I am disappointed with it clearly only being located in a city for the whole game. On the other hand, I am told this either IS or is like or part of the Legends games and so I am still hopeful that there will be the release of a brand new game with a new continent and new Pokémon. I’m also hoping that it means the creators are taking more time to make a better game. But who knows?

My other question would be, when a new game with new Pokémon is released, what kind of Pokémon are we hoping to see? Personally, I’m really hoping for another Eeveelution (which would mean a brand new type!). And what kind of battle “enhancer” (can’t think of what they’re called) would we want to see? (ie more Mega Evolution etc). Thoughts?

Discussion Honestly, i think Gen 3 was one of the best generations.

Pokemon-wise i honestly think it has one of the best rosters, so many iconic pokemon like Blaziken, Salamance, Gardevoir, Metagross....etc.
Emerald was a GOATED game, not only you had a traditional Pokemon journey, but you also had two really cool features: Pokemon Contests and in the post-game the Battle Frontier, which did spice up things up.
I also think it has some of the best spin-offs, Pokemon Ranger 1, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 1, Pokemon Trozei! etc...
I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but i think Gen 3 was one of the best generations looking back and honestly i'd say at least is a contender for one for the best.

Discussion With the open world games giving us more proper insight to Pokemon size, which one surprised you the most?

I know we’ve had the height range listed in the Pokédex for a LONG time now but I think SEEING them in relation to your character really puts it in perspective! For me it was Leavanny - don’t know why I figured they’d be the height of a teenager / young adult but nope, like 2/3 feet tall!

Discussion Random Musings After Mono Bug Run

So I just finished a mono-bug run of Scarlet and I'm just randomly posting these tips here for anyone else who enjoys mono-runs.

Final Team: Araquanid, Volcarona, Frostmoth, Kleavor, Lokix, Scizor.

  1. Offensively, bug is resisted by far too many types and therefore, STAB bug moves should only be used on pokes with Tinted Lens (Lokix, Venomoth) or those with some form of "steroid" (eg: Sharpness X-Scissor on Kleavor)

  2. The "mandatory" poke for this run is Araquanid, as it's the only real glue against Fire types and it's the only one in S/V with Water/Bug typing in its final evo (Surskit losing its water typing on evolution is a huge shame)

  3. Hyper offense is the easiest way to play this run; this makes Kleavor a fantastic poke as Sharpness gives it incredible immediate power. Scyther can be evolved to Kleavor at level 1 if you transfer it to HOME and then to PLA.

  4. Volcarona shines as the best special threat in the late game and has a fantastic ability as well. It pairs really well with Frosmoth (which is a great special wall too). However getting it to level 59 to evolve can be annoying.

  5. Ribombee, Galvantula, Forettress, Rabsca, & Volbeat are great niche pokes for this run too and worth keeping in rotation.

  6. Though gimmicky and somewhat unreliable, Stakeout + Assurance Spidops can actually do some impressive damage against the AI if hazards are up (usually via Kleavor).

  7. Compound Eyes pokes (eg: Vivillon) are the best for catching other pokes via status (Sleep Powder).

I hope these tips help anyone attempting this run.

Discussion Most ridiculous team?

I was thinking about the games earlier today and trying to put them in context. By the end of whatever generation you're playing, you've got mythical and legendary and shiny pokemon and you're incredibly overpowered. If you're a random dude in Vermillion city and some 12 year old rocks up to the gym and challenges it and tossed out the clone of the first Pokemon, a bird made of fire, and literal pokemon god, that's something you'd tell your friends about. As a gym leader, you know you're about to get your face melted.

So, what would be the inverse of that? What team would be the most ridiculous one that some kid could show up with? I'm imagining some ten year old strolling up to the gym with a set of car keys, an apple and a tea cup, and everyone just goes "aww, that's adorable. It's his first battle." And then the kid just demolishes everyone.

Discussion Making pokemon town theme inspired music

Hello,

I've been writing music in fl studio for a few months now and I'm really captivated by that nostalgic vibe that can be heard in so many pokemon town themes (like Littleroot, Azalea, Eterna City, Castelia City, etc). I'm looking for any kind of tips on writing melodies and progressions in the style of the pokemon games. If anyone has any tips for this, please let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

Misc Loyd vs Ash debate. Spoiler

Alright yall, I've been seeing this freaking question on YT and I gotta get some input.

Who would win in a fight between Ash k from the pokemon anime, and Loyd Garmadon from the Lego Ninjago series?

All powers, items, and skills apply, and there is no prep time.

Fair warning I haven't watched Ninjago since I was like ten and the anime has too much random bs for me to remember, I only got into pokemon during high school, so bear with me here.

And yes, Ash WILL have all of his pokemon, and Loyd will have all of his dragons and whatever else he has gotten over the years, again, it's been awhile, so don't at me if I'm not an expert on either series please, this is for fun and curiosity sake, so let's be civil and have a fun/interesting debate!

I found this pretty neat- you type in a Pokemon from Gen one into the chrome browser on your phone and tap the pokeball in the lower left corner when it pops up. I love little stuff like this!

Tool/Guide PSA: You will lose your save data for Pokémon games and other games that don't have cloud backup if you trade in your Switch 1 before you get a Switch 2.

1.3k Upvotes

The only way to transfer save files for Pokémon games, Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing from one console to another is to do a System Transfer.

This requires you to have both systems on hand and connected to the same Wi-fi network.

Furthermore, for Animal Crossing, you will need to use the Island Transfer Tool.

There is unfortunately no way around this.
