Discussion If Kanto and/or Johto come back they should be a real modern sequel instead of a nostalgia-centric remake.

I'm really sick of the game design from 1996/2000. I want Kanto to be the urban metropolis it's supposed to be. For Johto to have the same mix of rural and urban development it's supposed to have. A problem with Gen 2 to me is that the rural vs urban divide between Johto and Kanto isn't represented very well as Kanto is also just a few small clusters of buildings strung together by dirt roads, if even that. Probably wouldn't happen very soon as they're already doing a game centered around an urban environment at the moment, but if a revisit to these gens is just the copied map from 1996 or 2000 again with a bunch of features cut out what's even the point?

I get that they are afraid of taking risks and changing what works when it comes to Kanto because of all of the fans who only care about Kanto and nothing else, but I feel like a modern update to Kanto and Johto with a new story set in the future of the events of Gold and Silver could genuinely be a great game.

Discussion It's ridiculous some Pokemon don't learn any useful moves until they are like 40

Upvotes

This is a little rant on my Sneasel. It's a physical dark/ice attacker, levelled it up to 40 and the only dark type move it learns is hone claws, the only ice move is Icy wind, which is special. Wtf.

What other mons make you consider abandoning them at the daycare with the natural moveset they learn by growing up?

Discussion What is Pokemons main villain

There are plenty of characters that are considered villains or we just hate, there are plenty of examples like Mindy, Incineroar for VGC players, Whitneys Miltank, and many others. But the question remains, who is the main villain the most hated or just the most evil one.

  1. Mindy
  2. Incineroar
  3. Whitneys Miltank
  4. Lances Dragon (if you refused to use revives on gen 1 you know why)
  5. Vaporeon
  6. Anything i didnt think of

Discussion is it against the rules to attack "normally" without using a move?

while watching them battle in the anime i've always wondered if youre allowed to command your pokemon to attack without technically using a move, especially since ash comes up with weird move combos all the time. like would it be against the rules to tell my blaziken to punch a pokemon in the stomach, or is that somehow added to its moveset? would i be allowed to sweep pokemon off their feet without using low sweep??

Discussion Fake Pokémon Games kinda a rant?

Got sold a counterfeit Pokémon Heart Gold, was so excited to play it until I put into my original childhood 3ds and was greeted with "Deep Labryinth USA, INC." I was devastated, I am so tired of people scamming others just for their own benefit. Please be careful everyone when it comes to buying older games. For context I had lost my old version of Heart Gold as a kid, which is the only reason why I don't have it now. I am extremely frustrated and sad. With that being said, help cheer me up by telling me your favorite Pokémon game, feature in a game or favorite Pokémon/Pokémon fun fact!

Discussion Creating a Pokemon Legends game concept for every region

We now have an idea of what makes a Legends game a Legends game, and what we know is that it can be ANYTHING. Originally people thought the Legends line would just be explorations of the history of regions, but Legends ZA we can see that a future game can also work. In the end, a Legends games is just basically taking a region and building on some important element of it.

For example, Sinnoh as a region is seeped in its history, more so than any other region, so making a game that explores that history was incredibly fitting.

Meanwhile, ZA seems like it is focusing more on Lumiose as the central city it is. Of all the cities in Pokemon, it is probably the one that feels most like a massive hub, even if in its original form or is realistically quite small, so it makes sense that or gets so focus.

I thought it would be interesting to consider some concepts for Legends games for regions that have yet to get a Legends game, and what important elements of the games could be carried over or what interesting directions you could take them in. I'll also be giving each one a name.

Pokemon Legends: Rocket - I think any region could be interesting to play as a member of the evil team in, but Team Rocket is the most iconic so it feels fitting here. However, Team Rocket is also woefully underdeveloped, despite being the main villains of two regions, so I think it would be cool to expand them a little bit here. In this game you would play as a Team Rocket grunt and maybe work your way up the ranks. Obviously it's a Pokemon game so you would have to end up turning against Giovani, but it would be great to expand on the goals of the team and develop the characters more than could have been done in gen 1 or 2. I think a cool idea would be to have this game take place concurrent to the gen 1 games themselves, but it might also be cool to have it take place in the creation or Mewtwo, with the climax maybe having you assisting in Mewywo's escape.

Pokemon Legends: Ashen Wing - I'll be honest, Johto is the region I have the least familiarity of, seeing as I have never completed a Johto game, but the burnt tower feels like it has a lot of history to it. I also feel like focusing on Ho-Oh and the Legendary Beasts makes more sense than Lugia, I dunno. I feel like there are better ideas that could be created here, I just don't have any.

Pokemon Legends: Desolation - We have seen the past, we have seen the future and my Rocket idea could represent the present. So what about alternate reality? What happened if Maxie won? What would the Hoenn region have looked like if the gen 3 protagonist hadn't reversed the damage her did to the region? I think this would be a really interesting way to approach a Legends game, and while maybe it would be a bit darker, I would love to explore what Hoenn would look like as a Desolate wasteland.

Pokemon Legends: Deluge - of course, if we're gonna explore the scenario where Maxie wins, we have to also explore what happens if Archie wins. This game would instead be a completely flooded ocean world. I will say that I think Desolation has more scope for an interesting world, but seeing how the people of Hoenn would have had to adapt to their home being flooded would be interesting. Maybe they have created underwater colonies, that would be cool. I kinda see these two games as potentially version opposites, although they would ultimately have to be very different games, but even if both could not be made think exploring one or the other possible scenario would be awesome.

Pokemon Legends: Pokestar - Honestly, I don't want all of these ideas to just be "hey, what if we explored the ancient history of this region?" Sure, for some regions that feels like the right move, but I am glad that ZA demonstrates it isn't the only way this can go down. So instead, why don't we explore the Pokemon equivalent of Hollywood? Legends games often take the gameplay on new and different directions and I would love to see how they would tie movie creation into a Pokemon game. You could even make it based on the early 20th century, and maybe explore some of the history of the region that way, while having a unique aesthetic. Maybe even make the whole game stylised as a black and white movie. Get it? Honestly, this idea has so many cool layers to it.

Pokemon Legends: Ultra - Maybe focusing on the Ultra Beasts is too obvious a direction to take this, but this could be one of the most exciting ideas. Imagine not only being able to explore the Alola region, but dive into Ultra Wormholes to explore massive areas filled with Ultra Beasts. Alola is really the only region where travelling to alien worlds makes sense so that should be taken advantage of. I also see this as the only way we are likely to ever get to see new Ultra Beasts, which would be cool.

Pokemon Legends: Armoury - I know I said I don't really think it would be good to focus to heavily on exploring the history of regions, but I think most people agree that after Sinnoh and Kalos, Galar is the most compelling region to explore the distant past of. And, in fact, I think making this a game set in a medieval Galar would be so awesome, especially as it will be the furthest back in history that we have ever been. It might even be cool to make this a time before Pokeballs and instead you would maybe have to take a more monster hunter approach to taming Pokemon. Or maybe the game would put a hevau emphasis on the warrior side I things, having you fight enemy warriors alongside your Pokemon. There are some great possibilities here.

Pokemon Legends: Paradise - I think there are a lot of ways you could take this story in, but I think, like Legends ZA, making it a sort of follow up would work here. Maybe there would be some sort of anomaly which allows the Paradise Protection Protocol to contact the modern day world again. Maybe there would be some sort of shenanigans where both Turo and Sada versions of the Protocol are trying to get back to the modern day, or something like that. Either way, I think playing with the idea of paradoxes and alternate realities here could be cool, at least from a story standpoint. Also, the name would officially be Paradise, but the logo, when ever shown, would glitch out to instead say Paradox. I don't have too much to say about the actual gameplay of this one but I think there are some really interesting possibilities.

Any other cool concepts that could work here?

Misc Trying to find the words to explain to my mom what it means she kept my master set original Unlimited

Finally finished re-organizing my cards, so that the non-first edition unlimited master set were finally put an order. Obviously, some of it isn’t in the best shape because I didn’t take care of my stuff that well as a kid, but she did. I told her the fact that she kept my stuff in such great condition and the reason why there’s such a huge craze going on with Pokémon… it transcends the hobby and shows the depth of loving and emotion of being that we have for one another as family and friends. Anybody else agree or have their own thoughts?

Discussion Question: is the Pokemon Scarlet Violet DLC worth getting ?

Hi I'm contemplating if I should get the pokemon Scarlet Violet DLC. I've heard some good things about it and so.e bad things. If anyone could put a link to a good review for the pokemon Scarlet Violet DLC because the problems I've heard hopefully aren't in the actual DLC and just a glitch so if anyone could help I would appreciate it!

Discussion What is your favorite and least favorite type and why?

My favorite is Grass. It may have a lot of weaknesses compared to most of the other types, but I love it nevertheless. In all of the pokemon games I have played there has always been at least one grass type in my team, and Leafeon is my favorite pokemon of all time. Torterra, Lilligant, Trevenant, Decidueye, Tsareena, and Lurantis are also pokemon I love a lot, especially Torterra.

My least favorite is Water. I simply don't find it as appealing as the other types. While there are very few water-type pokemon I don't like, most of them I think they're either decent or I do like them but not that much. The water-type pokemon I like the most is Vaporeon, but it still doesn't come close to how much I like the grass type-pokemon I mentioned.

Discussion Favourite normal type

Previous post got me thinking about how shitty normal type is (should have been explicitly excluded from that question). So what are your favourite normal type pokemon? God Bidoof excluded. Imo Tauros and Miltank have pretty strong personality, other stuff like Skoovet just have no soul. I guess Snorlax and Slaking might be popular. Eager to hear your answers.

Discussion Which Deoxys Form do you like the most?

Deoxys is a unique Mythical Pokemon in that it has a total of four different forms. That being Normal, Attack, Defense and Speed. Each one has their own unique appearance and distribution of stats, so it's really customizable to what niche the player wants it to fill.

Want a Glass Cannon to annihilate your opponents in one hit? Attack Form is for you. Want a Defensive Tank? Defense Form is there for you. Want to never ever be outsped outside of Trick Room? Speed Form with Extreme Speed is there for you! Normal Form.... Yeah you might as well just use Attack Form because it's dying in one hit anyways with 50 base HP, Defense and Sp Defense... But it looks cool at least!

Which form of Deoxys do you like based off of design or stat distribution? Are you Team Normal, Team Attack, Team Defense or Team Speed?

Discussion Why are there still 2 versions per generation?

Pokemon had been making more trade evolutions not require trading starting in (I think) SwSh, so why still lock a bunch of pokemon to trading between versions?

I know the obvious answer is money, but it there any other reason?

Discussion My theory about Iron Leaves, Iron Boulder & Iron Crown

might bolding out their legendary status. Legends are stories told and forgotten about what's true or/and fantasy. What if, instead of going extinct, they're simply forgotten and remade?

Well, I'm not really much of a thinker (nor native english); so my words will sound weird when I'm trying to explain my thoughts.

Discussion In-game musts..

What are your in-game musts?

I'm not talking about your hold down whatever button to catch, or organise your boxes in alphabetical/numerical/type order.

Let's talk about the specific and odd stuff in each game.

I, for one, must take Mr. Brinry and Peeko back to their house on Route 104 (Gen 3) after their services are no longer needed. Can't be leaving them on Slateports dock..

What about you? What are your must-dos ) or must-don'ts) whilst playing?

edit: spelling is hard

Discussion What is your favorite Pokemon song (from either the anime or the games)?

Both the anime and the games have several different catchy songs. Lugia's theme from the Pokemon 2000 movie (Western theme, not Japanese) is amazing, but for me the version of the Johto Journeys Theme Song in the Pokemon 3 movie is probably the catchiest of them all in my opinion. Of course the games also have some good songs from the soundtracks, and there are different versions of the anime songs across different languages, but nothing beats the movie version of the Pokemon Johto Journeys Theme Song (btw the German movie version is also amazing).

What's your favorite Pokemon song from any of the games, movies or anime?

Discussion What's your favorite Mythical Pokemon?

Of the 1025 Pokémon species, there are 23 Mythical Pokémon. However, unlike most Pokemon they are very rarely able to be obtained in-game and thus are almost never included in anyone's playthrough team, especially if you played from release date before any distributions (possible exceptions being the Mew and Jirachi gift Pokemon in BDSP). As such, they are unique among Pokemon since they are usually only obtained in the post game once you've already completed the game and people don't have the same connection to them as they do other Pokemon.

As such, do you have a favorite Mythical Pokemon? And if so, why are they your favorite? Is it the designs? The lore? What is it you like about them?

Discussion Assuming we get future legends titles what "Alternative" paths would you want to see?

Legends games are made to branch from the main formula so was thinking about some options we have seen in the franchise. As we've seen that LA took place in the past while ZA seems to be modernish day time period is optional and there are some interesting things you could use such as a midquel between the gen 1 and gen 2 games or a hypothetical game focusing on ultra space. This is about the task the player is focused on but can still generally be translated into an Action RPG or a turn-based RPG.

Just finished this video which went over briefly the history of contest which despite being a fairly big focus around the anime only appear in Hoenn/Sinnoh and their respective remakes and they were the side task that basically required a different approach to how you plan out movesets and even things like natures. Though since they were marketed as fairly "feminine" with most contest stars in the anime being girls alongside a focus on aesthetics maybe the fear could be that it would alienate a sizeable amount of the player base.

Since pokemon seems to be moving away from more traditional villains with most of them either being more sympathetic or tragic alongside the twist villains instead of a Giovanni maybe have the player being a recruit for the international police force like Looker was as currently he is the only known member.

Ok y'all, I'm currently doing a run on emerald and I have a really important question. Who would count as an honorary pink pokemon and why? I'm between Spoink and Lileep. Or do y'all have any other suggestions? Currently I have a Whismur and a Skitty on my team, on my way to the fourth gym.

Discussion What Pokemon power would you like to be reincarnated with in a non Pokemon world?

Basically what the title says. I am a fan of Pokemon, but am unfortunately unable to play the games from Kalos due to not having the ability to buy the consoles and I am also a very big fan of anime and have seen and read many as well. Isekai is pretty popular

So that got me thinking, if you have the chance to reincarnate in a world that isn't Pokemon. Which Pokemon would you choose to have the powers of.

You will have human form, the ability to shapeshift is your choice. You can have all their moveset and even be able to learn moves that aren't used in games since you won't be constrained by game rules.

Basically you will be able to have the power and abilities of that entire line of a Pokemon, including Mega evolution if they have any.

So I wanted to ask about what you would choose for yourself?

I would like to see more non legendary and mythical choices though so normal Pokemon would be appreciated. But you can put one for each category.

As for me, for Legendary - Lugia

For normal - Charizard cause I like the line very much

Discussion Kerian's hairstyle

Upvotes

I know his new hairstyle is supposed to imply that he is changing and you know mixing the old personality with the new hairstyle and whatnot but me personally I loved him with his hair down and his face it was just so adorable and he was so shy it was perfect but I understand the reasons why it is staying the way it is I just wish there was an opportunity to influence him to put it back down for those who did prefer his other hairstyle
