Semaglutide subreddit FAQ

This was created based off community suggestions.

If you have an IMMEDIATE medical concern, PLEASE talk to your doctor - not random people on the internet.

Q1: Does my insurance company cover <medication>?

A1: Unfortunately, nobody here can answer this for you, because your coverage is a combination of your insurer + your employer. You can also refer to this post from Feb 2022.

Q2: This medication is so EXPENSIVE! Any way to reduce the cost?

A2: Refer to the manufacturer's site for the latest info on discount offers.

Q3: Has anyone ever experienced any of these side effects?

  • Can't poop
  • Can't stop pooping
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Period changes

A3: Yes, many times. Please search before posting or refer to the manufacturer's website & review the complete list of potential side effects.

Q4: How does Semaglutide work?

A4: Refer to these discussions for answers from the community.

Q5: Is it ok to inject this into <body location>?

A5: Refer to the Medication Guide and Instructions for Use for your medication.

Q6: It has been <x> hours since I've taken my latest dose, and I haven't noticed any change yet - is that normal?

A6: Literally every body is different. Some will see response with the initial doses, most don't see any significant changes until they ramp up to the full dose.

Q7: I'm going to start taking <medication>. Can you share your experience with me?

A7: The entire subreddit is exactly that! Please browse through recent threads before posting your question.

Q8: My doctor started me on dosage strength <x> - is that normal/safe?

A8: Refer to the manufacturer's recommended dosage schedule.

-------

Other common questions that do not have simple answers - best advice is to search before posting to benefit from the experience of this community.

  • Has anyone ever switched from <medication 1> to <medication 2>?
  • I'm having <side effect>. What tips do you have for dealing with it?

This feels bizarre for me to post because I’m not the type of person who posts on Reddit really at all or engages in online communities, or really shares anything personal about me with the Internet…

I’m 30 years old and I have been overweight for the majority of my life, but after the past 10 years wherein I lost both of my parents, my weight gain was becoming a huge problem for me and my daily life. I was starting to worry about my health in ways that I had never been worried about it before and I was honestly just really scared of what my future was starting to look like. Gaining all of this weight put me in a really bad headspace where I didn’t see myself able to lose weight or I guess like there was no way out.

On a whim in January I decided to start Weight Watchers, which was something my mom and I did when I was in the fifth grade (lol), but I didn’t really think that it would have such an insane impact on my health as it has. In fact when I joined Weight Watchers, I didn’t even think about potentially exploring GLP-1s as something they offered, but when I saw it featured in the app, I decided what the heck I’ll give it a try. That was the best decision I ever made.

I feel like now I have hope for the future. I like myself and I like the body that I’m living in again, which I haven’t been able to say for years. Semaglutide honestly has changed my life in just a few short months and I wish I had known about it sooner, but I’m so glad that I started my health journey in January and that I decided to give this a try because I was in a really dark place before this and now I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. ❤️

These jeans were skin tight in august now they’re loose and falling 😭🤣 so close to my goal weight, taking it slow and steady!

I started at 220 in December and today I’m 165. I’m feeling so good and being able to look at these pictures side by side has helped me see the difference.

I’ve been on Wegovy since June 2024 and it has been a life saver. Down 100lbs but I’d like 50 more. For the past 4 months I have been hovering around the same weight. I also find that my appetite is coming back as is the food noise (still better than it was). I tried changing injection sites, altering schedules, drinking more water, but I can’t break through this plateau. I am concerned that my body has become tolerant of the 2.4 dose, but am afraid to go off it in case my weight balloons. On the other hand, the monthly cost of the meds would get me a nice car! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Let us not forget the benefits beyond the scale! Before and after blood draw results - 6 months between draws!

I've lost 46 pounds... and that's awesome of course... but I have to be honest: I've been the most nervous about getting my blood drawn because I was afraid my levels hadn't improved much, but here we are!!!

I've NEVER had healthy Total Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels in my life. Literally. Even when I was at my lowest weight. AND now I'm no longer prediabetic - which is why I started on sema to begin with.

So much improvement - not just on the scale - but in the lab too! I'm honestly ECSTATIC!

I started taking semaglutide on 01 December 2024 with a starting weight of 200.6 (high weight was 211.7 a few weeks before). As of today, I am now down to 176 pounds!

Getting close to being merely overweight!

Feeling pretty good about my progress. 5’5.5” SW 250(ish), CW 227. Started 2/14. I feel great! Ya, maybe a little tired at times but I also have a ton more energy not lugging around that extra 20 and eating cleaner. I was irritable the first few weeks but now I am happier than I have been in a very long time. NSV: Thinking about my future and not feeling totally hopeless, and just shutting down. I thought about Summer plans yesterday and was actually excited!

Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea

Upvotes

3 weeks in and the N/V/D is becoming a real issue. I literally feel like I can’t eat without being sick. I am projectile vomiting at least once a week. I’m always nauseous or sick to my stomach feeling constantly. I have more diarrhea than ever. Please tell me this goes away! I am not the best in terms of diet all the time and I know that does play a huge part in it, but I have made a lot of changes, it just seems i can’t get past this feeling sick stage. I am also on the lowest does (I believe, I’ll double check later today).

Tapering off Wegovy

Down 100 lbs, keeping it steady as I transition to concentrate on weight training and get off the meds. 310->210 still have another 20-30 lbs to shed as I work through. Figuring out as i go how to handle the returning cravings and appetite. Consistency and overall lifestyle change will be life’s greatest challenge.

Not loosing

Today is officially 3 months on Semaglutide (7 weeks on full dose of 40 units) and I've only lost 12lbs. I feel really discouraged because I've seen other people lose 20+lbs by now. I also track calories and workout 3-4 times a week. Not sure if I should try something new or just keep with it? Has anyone else been this slow to lose?

No side effects? 🤔

I did my first injection last week and felt AWFUL. Vomited the morning after, queasy and absolutely EXHAUSTED for days. And very decreased appetite for the first 2-3 days. Then I did my second injection last night and had ZERO side effects today. Appetite is barely even suppressed. I almost felt like I had more energy today than normal. Did this happen to anyone else? Don’t get me wrong, I’m so relieved to not be feeling ill for days. But I’m so confused by the drastic change I’ve found myself questioning whether I ever injected anything lol.

Suddenly feeling independently wealthy

Post image

Among the analogues that have occured to me for this feeling that semaglutide has given, the !!!!!strongest!!!! is this feeling like I've just come into money!!

We talk about the "freedom" this drug brings, feeling "free", but it feels so concretely similar to independent wealth/financial freedom.

The way I’m not forced to budget food (calories, macros) anymore, that my good food choices feel even better and more virtuous because I quite literally do not have to make good choices to have the body I want. The choices I make are really MINE for the first time!

I am so full of glee. The way that  I can start the day however I want because it can ?never go wrong?

For breakfast, boyfriend (naturally thin) and I each had one apricot hamantaschen that I got from a beloved Jewish bakery. It was delicious, and more than enough. I will be grateful forever.

Long journey from 260 to 175

I’ve been on GLP-1 for 2 years now. I’m close to goal weight (if I’d stop going to In n Out might be there already!) Ten years ago vs today. I love this current version of me. I’m strong, all my vitals are healthy, T Levels are healthy, at age 50 I’m in the best shape of my life at 173 lbs. I’m feeling so confident that I’m actually going to compete in a Jiu Jitsu tournament! Stay focused! It’s a process. Yes the injections help put a little gas on it, but it’s still a process. (And yes for some it literally puts gas in the process! 💨🤪)

This is a difference of about 10 lbs but I don’t really see a difference. If so, where do you see it? Still have the little back roll lol
