How it started vs where I am now.

Hello, I’m a 54 year old 5’6 1/2 tall. I started on this journey just over a year ago at 171lbs and now I just hit 128. It’s been a long and slow journey - I stayed on the lowest dose and lost maybe 2-3lbs a month. This worked very well for me as I’m addicted to tennis and play around 5x/week so I had to keep my muscle mass intact. I’ve actually stayed consistent at 135lbs for months - and then all of a sudden the last few lbs just dropped off. I feel healthier than ever, my joint pain and inflammation is gone, and I’m beating everyone on the tennis court! Lots of energy.

I guess I am here to say - stick with it. Plan on the long course. And don’t listen to nay sayers. You do what is best for you and your health!

YOU’VE GOT THIS!!!!!

Update 9 weeks on Sema as someone with Alcohol Use Disorder

I know there was some interest in an update from me as someone long diagnosed with AUD being on semaglutide, so i just wanted to share my observations so far with those interested.

I started semaglutide on 02/04 with the typical titration schedule so took my first 1.0 dose last Tuesday and wow what an experience it's been.

Initially, on the 0.25 dose, I noticed the same dampening of the reward system that I had with Naltrexone but I would continue to push through to reach a minute semblance of a buzz.

On 0.5 this continued but I found it increasingly difficult to come close to what I was seeking through alcohol.

Last week was my first week on 1.0 and it's like I can't even stomach a fourth of the quantity I used to be able to. I just throw up before any type of feeling has the chance to come on. I feel like my brain is getting very close to the extinction phase with alcohol as now its become associated with feeling sick.

I'm really happy about this. The early findings they've noticed with this drug and a reduction in alcohol use is what inspired me to try for myself as other measures have been obviously unsuccessful for me. This is the first thing that's actually working for me and for that I am eternally grateful.

AND I'm finally losing weight again. Down 22 lbs as of this morning.

I am very much aware of the risks associated with high alcohol usage, this drug and pancreatitis. Believe me when I say this, I have been desperate to break out of these chains alcohol has had on me for the last several years, so the risk is worth it for me. Your mileage may vary, as always consult your doctor if you too are struggling.

I’m feeling great. Feeling less bloated, less anxious. The inflammation throughout my body is decreasing like crazy especially in my face. I know the changes are noticeable but to anyone else but I can see things starting to change a bit already. So excited!!

Just finished my 8th shot, I have a weird relationship with food. I ate what I want and my favorite food was based on my mood at the time. I love all food. But can also forget to eat because my mind is busy. I eat late at night and it was never really a problem until the last couple of years when I really started to stack the weight on.

This drug is miraculous but dangerous. I had zero food noises which meant that I just never remembered to eat. I am starting to realize that I am starting to slowly starve.. food is so gross now. It no longer hits my happy spot. I eat for energy. Basically soup has been my savior.

I think I am going to go down a dose and start working on finding a healthy balance with food where I eat a breakfast lunch and dinner. It doesn’t have to be crazy can be basic but Setting an alarm to actually remind me. I need this so I can start going back to the gym to strengthen my muscle… I’m so weak from the calories deficit that I know I’m losing muscle. I’ve got to eat to feed myself and not eat to experience. It’s a hard mindset switch.

Finally seeing progress

Upvotes

Starting week 5 and finally seeing results! I started at .25, and while I experience great benefits (food noise, no desire for cocktails) the scales didn’t budge. Then in week 3 I dropped 1.5 lbs, then another 1.5 in week 4. I am in menopause and it has been impossible to shed weight. I feel hopeful!

Reached my goal weight!

I began my journey at 245 lbs (I'm 6'1"). After 18 months, I finally reached 200 lbs. My progress was gradual, but with persistence, I achieved this goal. Along the way, I overcame my sugar addiction, developed a fondness for green tea, alleviated my depression symptoms, and rekindled my passion for fitness. I'm truly thankful for this medication and for the entire journey. It was all worth it!

Do you treat yourself

So. I'm finishing week 2 on sema... does any one give themselves a semi cheat day once a week? And specifically has anyone had a good ole fashion milkshake while on sema? Was it disastrous?

Should I consider semaglutide

Some background info: 19M Work extremely hard in the gym 5 days a week and try to get at least 30 mins of cardio in

I’ve been active in the gym for about 2-3 years and can move a lot of weight. However, since I’ve gotten to university I’ve gained about 40 pounds and struggle with constant sugar/food cravings. I try to eat under my maintenance but sometimes I find it extremely hard with my university dining plan.

That being said should I consult my doctor about possible semaglutide treatments as my weight seems to just keep going up (specifically fat tissue).

Officially hit my goal weight today!

I started semaglutide in May of last year (F24, 5’9), weighing 105kg (231lbs). Today I hit my goal weight of 75kg (165lbs). 30kg lost and I feel the best I’ve felt in years! Unfortunately I have no before and after photos, because I deleted all of my before photos out of shame, which I now regret 😕 but I’m just so proud!

Do I need to up my dose?

I am feeling very discouraged as i’ve been on .75 for almost 5 months and have only lost 12lb. I am happy to have lost anything at all, but I have been struggling with constipation and I feel like going up in dosage will just worsen those symptoms for me. I am not sure what else I can do, my diet hasn’t changed and I try to keep as active as possible at my desk job. Would upping my dosage help or do I need to be more patient? To be clear, I have not gained or lost anything in the last two months. I pay out of pocket which is why I am hesitant.

Sometimes I feel low and then I look…

I was having a rough time with my weight loss over the last week just because during my menstrual week I’m typically bloated and there’s a lot of extra gunk going on and I tend to put on some weight numerically. But I’m super close to 40lbs now, (37lbs) and I’m trying to push towards that goal!

Sometimes it’s hard to see the new person you are but finally I’m being noticed at work for the change and that just feels really reassuring?

Anyway…here’s the before and after!

PSA: Different ways to dispense the meds.

Thumbnail

I’m not too sure that people realize there’s ATLEAST three different types of way to dispense these meds. Picture 1: these are prefilled with a needle automatically attached. These pens will dispense the entire dosage in one go. The grey piece gets taken off and you press the entire pen on your skin and needle sticks in and dispenses. You then get rid of the entire pen.

Picture 2: do you see how they have the number on the side? You can pick your dosage here. You turn the little dial(little clicks will sound), attach a pen touch needle, stick it into your skin and press the button. Once the dosage is done, you unscrew the needle, recap the pen and continue using it. Throwing out the pen needle.

Picture 3: this is the easiest to describe. This, you get your syringe, push it through the bottle, pull the end piece to your correct dosage. This needle gets stuck into your skin and once the dosage is done, you’re supposed to recap the needle and throw it out.

Only in picture 2&3, can you play around with your dosage/microdose yourself if you’d like. Picture 2: once you put your pen needle in,insert it, press the button, it will slowly count down again as it’s dispensing.

In picture 1, the pen has two ‘clicks’, you push the pen down, you hear a click and the pen will dispense everything until you hear a second click and it’s empty. If you pull the needle out before you hear the second click, it will continue and you will now have sema on your floor :). I’ve used all three versions but am currently using the pens in picture 1.

Hallendale or BPI pharmacy for better results?

I am trying to order semiglutide but have the choice between hallendale or BPI. I have had great luck prior with Hallendale but maybe BPI is even more effective? Please help! Trying to buy 3 or 6 month worth and scared to possible choose the worse option. A part of me wants to stick with hallendale but maybe BPI is better.

Semiglutide and fertility

Upvotes

Hi everyone! This might be a little niche but I am just seeing if anyone has experience with this. I’m considering pausing trying to convince to take Semiglutide for a couple months. My joints are in a ton of pain and my hip hasn’t recovered from my first pregnancy. It’s also been six months of TTC and my doctor said weight loss could help. I’ve also been going to the gym and eating in a deficit for six months but there’s little to no progress.

Does anyone have experience TTC after a couple months of being on Semiglutide? Did it have an impact on your fertility?

How have you been managing after stopping semaglutide?

Upvotes

I had to stop semaglutide due to higher B12 and feeling pretty crappy. I’ve been on it for 18 months and lost 27 lbs total. The last time I took a break from it I gained 7 pounds right away. Other than exercising, is there anything I can do to maintain my weight?

Dizziness along with nausea?

Upvotes

I increased my dose a few weeks ago and have finally experienced some nausea along with dizziness. Is the dizziness normal for you with your nausea or is there something else going on with me I wonder? TIA!

How do you get into this medicine?

Upvotes

I’m pretty curious on how someone gets onto this kind of medicine. I don’t really go the doctor much (if at all) so I’m not sure what the best route would be. Do you need a primary doctor? Do they show you how to take it?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated

Semaglutide for psoriatic arthritis

Thinking about trying semaglutide for psoriatic arthritis after listening to Dr Tyna Moore. Any tips on how to find a doctor in Alberta Canada that knows anything about this. I dont need to lose any weight. I have a really healthy lifestyle. Real whole foods every day. Dont drink dont smoke. Just cant exercise cause my ankles and legs are so bad. Also would rybelus tablets work the same as Injections. Was thinking .05mg injection or maybe half of 3mg rybelus tablet.
