Bar soap should not exist anymore

Bar soap is disgusting and we should not be using it to clean our bodies. It harbors bacteria and sits in water on the edge of the sink. It dries out your skin and leaves a gross film. People RUB IT ON THEIR BODIES without using a loofah or washcloth and that feels illegal. We have liquid and foaming handsoap, and we have body wash. Shampoo and conditioner are also liquid. Lotion is a liquid. Perfume is a liquid. Toothpaste and mouthwash are both liquid. The dispensing of these things is so much more sanitary than a BAR OF DISGUSTING SOAP. I'm not sure where I'm going with this or where I ended up but bro, if you're still using bar soap... there's no hope for you...

High capacity vehicles shouldn’t exist

I’m talking about four wheels on the ground type of vehicle, specifically large SUVs. A standard car can carry up to five precious passengers at most. A large SUV can carry up to three additional people on top of that.

Here’s the part that often gets overlooked: You shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket.

That piece of life advice applies far beyond just the stock market. Let’s say a Chevy Tahoe with eight seats is carrying its maximum capacity. If that Tahoe gets into a bad accident with a semi truck, the survival rate would be significantly lower than if the passengers had been split between two vehicles. Six to eight people in one car means that if that vehicle were to drive off a cliff, all lives would most likely be lost. It’s even worse when you try to fit everyone in the same household inside, as you risk losing everyone from the same family. Not to mention, the cramped cabin space poses another major safety hazard on its own.

I believe the risk outweighs the benefits that come with a high capacity vehicle, and that shouldn’t be the sole reason why someone buys one.

Edit: I’m only talking about cars/trucks/suvs. Yes, trains and airplanes are technically high capacity vehicles, I should’ve worded this post a little differently.

'My Funny Valentine' is a terrible song

The whole song is basically - you're extremely ugly, but I love you anyway. What kind of a song is that? Isn't the person you love beautiful/attractive to you by default?

Maybe you weren't physically attracted to them at first but as you fell in love with them, didn't they become beautiful in your eyes?

new technologies are far worse than their old counterparts!

While technology is advancing, its implementation is getting worse and worse.

batteries are shrinking in size, components are getting smaller and cheaper but the end product is far worse.

yes my phone has 50% bigger screen than my old phone but my old smart android phone was easier to use

I remember upgrading my laptop from 32nm CPU to 14nm CPU to enjoy better performance and lower power consumption, only to find out that they also reduced the battery size and its capacity to half that of my old model.

A walkman made 30 years ago is half the size of anything you can buy today

mpeg2 high bit rate video codec TV feed is far better than H.264 or H.265.

even films made with 35mm and converted to 4k is far better than any crappy new movies.

we gave up quality for convenience and obsession with needless tech. I do not need my toaster to connect to the internet to update its firmware.

People who hate on PDA are immature

It seems to be a pretty common opinion that PDA is gross, "disrespectful", indecent, obnoxious, the list goes on. Sure, it can be uncomfortable to witness, but I think we should be asking ourselves why expressions of love and affection get under our skin so much.

I'm not talking about the super extreme displays of public affection, either. Not full-on makeout sessions or intimate touch or anything. I mean very baseline displays of affection like normal kisses and hugs.

I'm so tired of people making big overblown reactions towards people kissing or hugging their partners in public. It's immature. Let us express our love, joy and affection naturally. It shouldn't have to be kept to private spaces. I should be able to kiss my boyfriend on a date. I should be able to kiss my boyfriend at a party. Without getting weird looks and remarks.

Like seriously, get over it. Stop making it about yourself. "ohhh but it makes me uncomfortable"
Then avert your eyes and maybe consider why expressions of love make you feel so unhappy.
Don't make it my problem. You are not being "forced" to witness it. You are choosing to watch and react.

I'm so tired of our own friends acting grossed out, complaining and making retching sounds whenever my boyfriend and I kiss each other. is this not,... extremely immature? I'm not trying to bother you guys. I'm not asking you to watch me. I'm just giving my partner some affection. it needs to be more normalised.

Another common argument is that if a couple engages in PDA, it must mean they are trying to "prove" something, or compensate for something. What if... it's not that deep? For some couples, I'm sure this is the case. But people seem to have lost so much faith, trust and hope in love that they assume the worst and find genuine displays of it to be cringeworthy. It's sad y'all. really sad.

My overall point here is that we should be more free to express our love for others without judgement.
I'm not trying to get attention or show off my partner like a trophy when i kiss him in public.
maybe I just want to kiss the person i love. its not that deep. don't be a hater.
find love, find peace, and grow up.

People who don’t gossip are weird.

There are different degrees of gossiping and I’m not talking about spreading your best friend’s business around behind their back. But if you don’t mildly enjoy hearing about Frank from finance getting fired for fraud or Judy from next door getting a male visitor everyday after her husband leaves, you’re weird and super unrelatable. And before you make the excuse that you’re a guy and men don’t care, I would disagree completely. I find that men gossip just as much (possibly more) than women.

Edited: After reading the comments, I will also include people who claim they NEVER gossip because they are so moral and/or couldn’t be bothered are also weird, lying, or in denial. (More than likely 2 out of 3)

The cost of college is heavily exaggerated

Yes there are colleges, mainly the elite and private ones that can cost 100k or more for a degree but there are also cheaper alternatives. You got community college, staying in state and going to public university, and regionally accredited online schools. You make sure you get a degree that has a high a ROI and internship experience as a student and you should be good.

I know someone who got their Masters in Data Science through the University of Texas at Austin in their online school for 10k instead of taking loans out at another schools for 60k. Now he has been able to climb the corporate latter and is now in a management position.

Games, software and other items on physical media is better for end users and society at large

Firstly, It acts as a mechanism to force developers to make stable and functional code, the cost and time to reprint millions of disks forces everyone to take development seriously. No you can't fix it next sprint and push up the new release at 12 midnight, its going to be permanently on a disk, so do it right the first time. It slows the development cycle down, if Apple had to do a disk, SD Card, or Thumb drive run of every macOS release maybe they'd have less of an appetite of a new release each year with its own set of bugs, broken features and dropping of supported hardware. We're developing so quickly these days with no regard for the end user, just to get X feature, Y story or Z ticket into the code with no regard for the people that actually have to put up with the change.

Second, if its on physical media its hard to hide controversial changes, Its there forever, its not going to be overridden and lost forever. Which comes to my other point, for the sake of archival physical media allows to keep old games/software/media alive. This is our history that's being lost with each passing day. With each push of code an entire generation's of shared experiences are lost because it lives on an AWS server rather than a disk that can be played without any internet connection. I can take a PC game from 1999 on a CD put it into a PC and play it as it was then, with all of its flaws, controversial scenes/dialogue or whatnot and experience it as it was. Instead of a re-release that requires Steam, the UBIsoft store, and has 25% edited out for one reason or another.

Physical media restores power back to the end user.

Nail clippers design is flawed!

Doctors always recommend to cut nails in a straight line to prevent ingrown nails, yet our nail clippers have a concave head, like they want you to cut your nails in a curve. Making people think that's the way to go.

Instead they should redesign nail clippers to have a frown instead of a concave head. because they pinch your nail before clipping it which is uncomfortable, a frown matches the nail shape better than a flat head.

Horror is the worst film genre

The majority of horror movies are dull and unimaginative, so stop pretending to like them. Poor plots, jump scares (which are a sign that the writer has trouble coming up with frightening material), one-dimensional characters, and tropes that are overused, such as ditzy blondes and meathead athletes, are commonplace in horror movies. Every genre of film has bummer movies and flops mixed in among great films, but horror seems to have the opposite problem, with the occasional watchable movie interspersed with poor ones.

Ratatouille is the most boring dish of all time.

2.2k Upvotes

Whether it’s sliced and arranged in the spiral-style we all know or diced and mixed as a stew, Ratatouille is the blandest, most boring dish of all time.

I would 1000% choose roasted veggies over ratatouille any day of the week. At least roasting them gives a bit of crunch and char, whereas ratatouille is all mush.

It looks impressive when it’s arranged as a spiral, but all that work is literally for nothing, since it tastes like garbage.

I shouldn't have to knock on a toilet if it has a lock, just lock the door when you're using it.

Pretty self explanatory, I don't understand why this is hard for people. If a toilet has a lock I should be able to see if somebody is in it by trying to open it. If the door is locked I take the hint and either come back or find another one. If I open the door and catch you with your pants down because you didn't lock the door, that's on you.

Shows are really bad

I love the idea of binge watching series shows, I have watched: GoT, Breaking Bad,.. and some others

But, I have come to realisation that series shows are usually boring, shallow, and just try to make some money instead of persuing real greatness.

Just now I have binge watched full season of the show 'Shogun', and I feel really empty and bored about it. I tought that form of a series is great, because instead of directors having just 1-2 hours ( I mean movies), in series they can have a 'canvas' of 10- 20 hours, to paint us a picture. And yet, series are never any close as good as movies are. Scorsese never made a series, as far as I know, Coan brothers, P.T. Anderson, not any of big artists made series, and I just do not know why.

All series leave me drained, how about you? Recommend a good series show, if there are any. Thank you for reading

Using words “chapter” and “journey” when describing personal life events is cringe.

Whenever an adult posts on social media about their average life using epic whimsical vocabulary like that, I wish I could go back in time, find their school bully, and give them 100$ and a note with the name. Your marriage/hobby/job/relationship isn’t even remotely worth these words, Bob.

[Edit] Honourable mentions: Era, Cringe.

Spending money on your wedding is worth it, you have your whole life to travel.

I constantly hear that having crap wedding and spending more on your honeymoon is the thing to do, which I understand to some degree.

I don’t think weddings need to be 30k or over, but I don’t think that you should skip your wedding all together. I hear people eloping, having a court wedding etc etc.

Having a wedding is supposed to be special I think it’s worth putting the effort in it. A honeymoon is just a vacation. Travelling is really cool, but it’s not special, most people go on vacation every other year, if they’re lucky every year.

You have your entire life to travel and save up to make it to those dream destinations. You will always have the opportunity to do that with your partner.

Celebrate your marriage, have a ceremony, rent a hall, host your loved ones, and have a damn wedding.

Free lunch from a company is an insulting gesture

11.5k Upvotes

Nothing grinds my gears more than when company says “here have a free lunch on us for your hard work”.

Like it’s just a garbage gesture all together and there are better ways to make employees feel appreciated.

How about a bigger bonus? How about letting us leave early while getting paid? Maybe even a small raise.

Yet after all your hard work and endeavors they think they’re doing you a solid by giving you free little Ceaser’s pizza. Just keep it.

People say “but it’s free” okay I get that but I’d rather not have anything if they’re just gonna reward everyone’s hard work with a slice of pizza and a root beer.

It’s criminally insulting to your employees

Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame was a better musical adaptation of Hugo’s work than Les Miserables.

Sorry, theater kids and fans of the Critic: the Hunchback makes way more sense for a musical than Les Miserables. The tone and story just make more sense for a musical and the songs slap!

Frollo is a way better musical villain than Javert who’s…an antagonist more than a villain. That’s the problem with Les Miserables is that it’s a very realistic story with subtlety and nuance, which…doesn’t suit itself to dramatics like musicals should. I think they were going for a La Boheme thing but that’s Opera! Not a Musical! Les Miserables would make a great opera probably.

Even with the Gargoyles dragging down the movie from time to time, Hunchback wins in my opinion.

Sincerely: tone deaf weirdo with no expertise in music or singing or anything like that.

I thought Chris Pratt did a really good job as Mario.

I think people were too reactionary to all the headlines surrounding Chris Pratt and his overexposure. I think if you had no idea it was Chris Pratt it could have been any voice actor doing that role.

Cottage cheese is the best dip for the most Doritos flavors

No dip works better with more Doritos flavors than cottage cheese. Top 3 best combos with cottage cheese: spicy sweet chili, sweet & tangy BBQ (4 Cheese BBQ was superior), and spicy nacho.

If in doubt, try cottage cheese first.

Some Food Tastes Better Burnt

Rice for example. I put it in the airfryer until it’s burnt at the top and super crispy—I might break my teeth one day but it’s worth the risk. Then burnt toast and butter. You can’t tell me otherwise.

Ancient civilizations with a hard "C" in the name sound cooler when pronounced with an "S"

The correct way to pronounce the Celts, or Celtics is by saying "Keltic" similarly, the correct pronunciation of Macedon is "Makadon", both sound cooler when using the incorrect pronunciation.

The White Lotus season 3 intro is WAY better than season 1 & 2.

Season 1 and 2’s intro are too similar for me. If anything, it sounds like Spongebob and Patrick going jellyfish hunting. Season 2's intro is just a reskin of season 1, and I seriously don't understand why so many people don't like the Season 3 one!

Don’t get me wrong, S1/S2 are still decent but the second half of the season 3 intro is just 🤌🏽 Feels much more eerie and accurate to the tone of the series. Either way, would love to hear what everyone else thinks.

Sandwiches taste better when they're a little damp and cold from being in a lunchbox with an ice pack

If given the choice between a sandwich that's been in a lunchbox for several hours with a small ice pack and a freshly made sandwich, I'd personally take the lunchbox sandwich. The little bit of dampness and the coldness from being packed away really enhances the flavor to me, and I find myself missing it when I make fresh ones to eat.

Getting a job at a grocery store at 18 with the intention of moving up is a better career move than most college careers.

With the intention and ability to move up caviat. In the 4 years you would have been at school you probably got to a middle management position making around 50k a year. No crazy amount of money you have to pay back with interest, and getting paid all along the way. 10 years maybe you're a store manager making 100k+.

Obviously doesn't apply if you're going to be a doctor or lawyer, but most things you go to college for will start you out the same as a middle management in a grocery store position. Now if you went to school for something you're passionate about, that's one thing. But if you're just going to get a decent paying job, a grocery store might be a better option.
