The soft landing from Covid was damn near miraculous. Chips and science act, inflation reduction act, bipartisan infrastructure bills, record stock market, holding together the western alliance while under threat. This guy knew how to get shit done.
Crashed it to own the libz and his cult. His cult will suffer oh so much more from his policies. He literally is using the tariffs as fucking āpunishmentā to the allies of the USA.
This. Itās reasonable to blame the last guy for the current problems, but that excuse becomes more baseless as time goes on. I think Biden is going to turn into MAGAs version of Emmanuel Goldstein from 1984.
The only way we escape this is his cult having an awakening moment. They drank the Kool Aid now is the time for them to realize thereās something wrong with it
To be a doomer i think the only way that will happen is if we fall into a great depression so bad that people die on the street and it becomes evident that anyone in power who let him get away with this doesn't understand economics at all or steal more then the most crooked dem
Thatās a very rose colored view of postwar German and Japanese sentiment. Germany didnāt really come to terms with the war until the 1968 generation forced the question in the 1970s and Japan still has a very large āwhat war crimesā contingent, including the late Shinzo Abe
MAGA dumbfuckery will sadly be with us forever in some form
And the dude is nearly 80. Cults have a hard time existing past their ācharismaticā leaders death. I donāt envision Vance, musk, Johnson, desantis or any other current Republican as a logical successor.
If he makes things worse it wonāt be long before people start turning on him or on his successor
we were #7 as far as recovery As far as ā strongest post covidā thatās a loaded statement. Because the U.S has been the world super power and strongest economy for over 100 years. By that standard, itās the same under trump because the U.S is still the worlds strongest economy today. That has a lot more to do with, resources, free market, household income and other factors than the presidency.
Of all major countries in the World the US was handling inflation the best. We were #1 economy in the world when he left office. The whole damn world is dealing with inflation and poor economies yet right wing media makes biden the devil. A bunch of voters didnt realize how good our economy was and voted for a fucking con man.
You cant deny were the top economy in the world which is what im getting at. The con so far? Promise to lower prices on day one = nope actually tanking markets and adding to inflation. End Ukraine war in 24 hours = nope. Haitians eating cats and dogs was all fear mongering BS. Getting rid of migrant criminals when 60% of mass deportations have been non-criminals. Just a few of MANY. If you cant see it now then im not sure you ever will
But you still canāt deny that with trump in office either. (Lower stock prices are lower prices ššš. Thatās a normal reaction to tariffs or major global news though. Giveve it a few weeks/months and all that will most likely bounce back) but where I live my closest gas station is $2.24 a gallon with rewards program and $2.34 without. A month ago it was around $1 a galloon higher. You have a good point on the war not ending in 24 hrs. ( he has tried peace talks though. And he promised something out of his control. That was stupid on his part) Haitians eating cats and dogs was crazy. They got that from the ohio woman who ate the cat š¤¦š½āāļø and somehow connected that to Haitians (youāre right that was just fear mongering) The mass deportations isnāt really a con. Thatās what he promised. He said violent criminals first but also classified people as being here illegally as criminals so that was part of his promise. Some things are wild and havenāt come true but he has for the most part made an effort to keep his word. ( not saying heās great by any means. Just not the evil end to American freedom that he gets made out to be)
But why even do trade wars?? Yeah you can hope things rebound but every economist with a brain knows itās completely idiotic. Even the murdoch owned WSJ is calling it the dumbest trade war of all time. The whole fentanyl excuse is BS. A bunch of idiots voted for this guy because they wanted lower grocery prices but he is giving them the exact opposite
I agree itās stupid I donāt like or agree with it. 100% the stupidest trade war and the fentanyl is definitely a bs excuse. You shouldnāt do that to your allies. But I also canāt do anything to change it. The real reason heās doing it is he wants to try and bring large corporations manufacturing to the USA to boost the GDP, lower unemployment rates, and raise job security resulting in deflation and a much stronger US dollars buying power. Another reason is to pressure other countries into doing what he wants. I donāt like it and i do think itās stupid butttt the USA does hold all the leverage which could get him what he wants. In 2023 76% of all of Canadaās exports went to the USA. That makes up roughly 19% of there entire GDP. In 2024 Mexico sent 78% of all of their exports to the USA. Thatās roughly 37% of there entire GDP. On the other hand exports to Canada and Mexico only make up 2.7% of the USA GDP. Itās a war of nutrition and honestly both Mexico and Canada know they canāt win or sustain without major economic backlash. Even though American companies pay the tariffs for goods imported and the cost gets put on the consumer. Over time American companies will be cheaper so people will go to American made products. When that happens the Canadian and Mexican companies who are making 70%-80% of there sales to the USA will either most likely move there operations to the USA or go out of business all while severly hurting those other countries economies. Itās a dick move and I donāt like it but thereās method to the madness and itās a gamble with a decent chance long term to get what he wants. Then you have Europe and china tarrifs š¤¦š½āāļø honestly my best guess on those is he just wants to be less dependent on the rest of the world.
The UK said the exact same thing about Ireland during Brexit...ie the majority of your trade is with us you should leave too or you'll be f**ked. Ireland just swapped them out for France/Netherlands etc. Their economy kept growing. The UK's flatlined. I don't see why Canada couldn't do the same (find new trading partners), might be painful in the short term but better long term as it would remove their dependence on trade exports to the US. Also not sure I agree with buying American. The opposite maybe as Canada (and the EU) are starting to boycott US goods.
Also it's their*
And I assume you meant 'war of attrition' rather than 'nutrition'. ;)
Yeah, like I said itās a gamble for sure. I personally donāt like the decision, but canāt do anything to change it. Canada may have more of a challenge due to the expense of having to import over seas for new trade partners vs the USA being right next door and convenient. Another challenge could be energy exports as 87%-97% of Canadaās crude oil is exported to the USA. The USA, China, and Russia refine the most oil annually so other countries that try to replace the USA may struggle to keep up. Itās unlikely for Canada to go to Russia with everything going on in the world today. China isnāt out of the realm of possibilities, they currently receive around 3% of Canadaās crude oil annually. Although Iām not sure how likely Canada to run into chinas arms with the USA and China butting heads over Taiwanās sovereignty and all the other bs between the two. The other problem that could arise is if Canada sends 76% of exports to the USA then the logistics for these companies would most likely be better to just move operations to the USA instead of looking for other countries to export to. Then thereās the issue of the wealth gap of the USA and other possible trade partners so a lot of countries citizens may not be able to afford said exported products.
When I say they may start buying American I mean USA citizens. USA manufactured goods would be cheaper than Canadian retaliatory tariffed goods in this scenario. ( Iām not saying any of this will happen thatās just what the orange man is probably going for)
Also my grammar is atrocious. By far my biggest weakness. You could probably find a lot more errors in my typing if you wanted to tbh.š
I did not mean āwar of attritionā but thatās the correct word so Thankyou for that. (;
The digital currency meme coins. The lawsuit settlements (Meta, ABC, etc) in exchange for not exerting retribution. The Eric Adams mess. The Jan 6 pardons are arguably a con. The Epstein files. The DOGE "saves". It's seemingly endless.
