This month's ingredients: Lime & Coconut

Next month's ingredients: Apricot & Lemon

RULES

Hello mixologists and liquor enthusiasts. Welcome to the monthly original cocktail competition.

For those looking to participate, here are the rules and guidelines. Any violations of these rules will result in disqualification from this month's competition.

  1. You must use both of the listed ingredients, but you can use them in absolutely any way or form (e.g. a liqueur, infusion, syrup, ice, smoke, etc.) you want and in whatever quantities you want. You do not have to make ingredients from scratch. You may also use any other ingredients you want.

  2. Your entry must be an original cocktail. Alterations of established cocktails are permitted within reason.

  3. You are limited to one entry per account.

  4. Your entry must be made in the form of a post to r/Cocktails with the "Competition Entry" post flair (it's purple). Then copy a link to that post and the text body of that post in a comment here. Example Post & Example Comment.

  5. Your entry must include a name for your cocktail, a photograph of the cocktail, a description of the scent, flavors, and mouthfeel of the cocktail, and most importantly a list of ingredients with measurements and directions as needed for someone else to faithfully recreate your cocktail. You may optionally include other information such as ABV, sugar content, calories, a backstory, etc.

  6. All recipes must have been invented after the announcement of the required ingredients.

As the only reward for winning is subreddit flair, there is no reason to cheat. Please participate with honor to keep it fun for everyone.

COMMENTS

Please only make top-level comments if you are making an entry. Doing otherwise would possibly result in flooding the comments section. To accommodate the need for a comments section unrelated to any specific entry, I have made a single top-level comment that you can reply to for general discussion. You may, of course, reply to any existing comment.

VOTING

Do not downvote entries

How you upvote is entirely up to you. You are absolutely encouraged to recreate the shared drinks, but this may not always be possible or viable and so should not be considered as a requirement. You can vote based on the list of ingredients and how the drink is described, the photograph, or anything else you like.

Winners will be final at the end of the month and will be recorded with links to their entries in this post. You may continue voting after that, but the results will not change. The ranking of each entry is determined by the sum of the votes on the entry comment with the post it is linked to. There are 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place positions. 2nd place and 3rd place may receive ties, but in the event of a 1st place tie, I will act as a tie-breaker. I will otherwise withhold from voting. Should there be a tie for 2nd place, there will be no 3rd place. Winners are awarded flair that appears next to their username on this subreddit.

I made this First Chartruese -> Last Word

Post image

I've been getting progressively deeper into mixology for two years now and have been hunting for the ever-coveted Green Chartruese for just as long. Unbeknownst to me, my amazing partner took an 8 hour round trip to get two bottles as a gift for me. Safe to say I am very lucky and very loved. Anyways, here is your obligatory Last Word:

  • 3/4 oz Gin
  • 3/4 oz Green Chartruese
  • 3/4 oz Luxardo Maraschino
  • 3/4 oz Lime Juice

Shake and Serve up with a Maraschino Cherry

(Made a Chartruese Swizzle as well, and it was absolutely amazing)

Ingredient Ideas Uses for Licor 43?

I was curious about Licor 43 so I bought a bottle. I've made a margarita riff adding a little--that was pretty good. I gotta say, it's probably a permanent addition to my espresso martini, I like the vanilla and complexity a lot, it's a great sub for Kahlua.

But what are some other things to make with it?

Ingredient Ideas Torani is passing their Amer torch to Ferino Distillery in Reno

Torani Amer mimics Amer Picon, the essential ingredient in both the Picon Punch and Brooklyn cocktails. Torani has passed the recipe to Ferino Distillery,

Torani has kept the existence of their Amer, their only alcoholic product), under the radar for at least the last few decades. It's been hard to get outside of Nevada and some areas in Northern California; neither Bevmo nor Total Wine websites would acknowledge its existence unless you used a store in the authorized area. When we were planning a road trip we'd have to be all cloak and dagger to find which stores had stockt ("Yes, of course we're in Eureka. Ignore the IP address in the corner!")

I don't know how much demand will increase when Ferino goes public, so I'll be stocking up before the rush. Hopefully at some point I'll be able to just buy it like ordinary people.

My husband has a lot of high-end bourbon, whiskey, and scotch. I have a lot of good-quality tequila, some vodka, and gin. We bought these recently and I've been playing around with it. I made amaretto sour, espresso martini and flat white russian. Drop some of your recipes. Thanks in advance!

Made a batch of Clamato juice to try this pickle gin. The gin on its own was fantastic when I tasted it at their taphouse. The Cucumber and dill shine right through the spiciness from the clamato and everything together was perfect.

Ingredient Ideas How to deal with Umeshu

I got a big bottle of Umeshu (Japanese unripe plum liqueur) and I find the sweetness to it too overbearing for drinking straightforward. Wondering what could Umeshu do in cocktails.

What should I infuse it with? I tried to infuse Rooibos tea & Grapefruit to it in small proportions. And I still got many Umeshu left, what ingredients go along with Umeshu?

Question Steve the Bartender

Hi everyone...

Was curious what everyone's thoughts are on Steve the Bartender https://youtube.com/@stevethebartender_?si=zCJhyFMnpT2gyZ43

He was pretty much my introduction to mixing drinks and I find his videos easy to follow and enjoyable.

He also has an app called Shake and Strain that I have found to be very inclusive but easy to use!

Appreciate everyone's input! Thanks again.

Question Alternative to Luscombe Elderflower tonic ?

Hello everyone !

I fell in love with the Luscombe Elderflower tonic. Unfortunately, I bought them in a destock store and it is not available anymore. And on the internet, I didn't find a shop that send them to France. Do you know other tonic brands with a similar aromatic profile ? (or a shop where I can find the Luscombe one ?)

Thanks in advance ! :)

Recommendations US-China fusion cocktails

Some quick context - I'm a 4th year university student and my friends and I are planning a night where we explain our dissertations to each other via PowerPoint and create a cocktail associated with it. My dissertation is related to US-China security and I need some help coming up with the cocktail.

So far I've thought of creating an old fashioned with US whiskey and making my own 5-spice syrup. I've also thought of using Chinese plum wine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Note - I live in an area of the UK with not a huge Chinese community so availability of ingredients are a little limited.

I made this GIBSON

Post image
86 Upvotes

GIBSON

2 oz. Gin, Tanqueray 10

1 oz. Blanc Vermouth, Dolin

¼ oz. Pickled Onion Brine

1 dash Sherry Vinegar

2-3 ea. Cocktail Onions

.

Stir with ice until thoroughly chilled.

Strain into a Nick & Nora glass.

Garnish: Cocktail Onions.

.

Inspired by the Gibson at Temple Bar in NYC. The sherry vinegar is a really nice touch. I used a Pedro Ximenez reserva sherry vinegar. Which is a little dark. But it did not discolor the drink. Also, drinks garnished with snacks are always a win for me!

Question Popular, Cheap Flavored Vodka's that were Popular in New York (Long Island) by 1999/2000

Hi all,

Not sure this is the best place to ask, but I am currently writing a story and need to put in a popular cheap flavored vodka (ideally blueberry, raspberry, or peach) that were popular by 1999/2000. Like the super cheap stuff that high school kids / college freshman would drink. The internet doesn't really have clear notes on when certain lines came out. But from what I have been able to find, it seems the answer is probably Georgi or Gilbey. Right now as a placeholder I've written "Gilbey’s Blueberry Vodka," but I'm not sure that exactly ever existed at that time or ever existed at all in that way.

If anyone has thoughts / experience on this, it would be much appreciated.

I made this Man Overboard - a Tiki original

Post image
37 Upvotes

Decided to try my hand at a tiki creation of my own, and boy oh boy was this absolutely delicious. A few weirder ingredients in there, but isn’t that in the spirit of the genre?

Despite what looks molasses-heavy, this drink came out perfectly balanced in my opinion. Celebrates funky rum and the iron-y pitch black of blackstrap by surrounding it with freshness, spice and florals. Would heavily recommend

25 ml. Unaged White Rum

25 ml. Jamaican Dark Rum

10 ml. Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum

15 ml. Allspice Dram

25 ml. Lime Juice

25 ml. Pineapple Juice

15 ml. Orgeat Syrup

10 ml. Limoncello

7.5 ml. Plantation Blackstrap Molasses

Shake all vigorously and open pour into your choice of large glass or tiki mug! Garnish with some fresh mint and an upside down passionfruit peel. For maximum flavour, let a dram of wray and nephew burn itself out in the peel first.

Add to shaker:

  • 1oz dry gin
  • 1oz Campari
  • 3/4oz lemon juice
  • 3/4oz simple syrup
  • 3 grapes (I think the OG spec is green grapes; I used red)

Muddle grapes. Add ice and shake. Double strain into rocks glass over large cube. Garnish with orange peel and another grape.

Very approachable Negroni riff. The Campari is there, but very much in the background. Nice low-ABV sipper. Delicious.
