Other This area has been bothering me for 3 weeks now. A pain that comes and goes. Worried it’s cancer. NSFW

My blood work seems to come back normal. Ever since I stopped taking Metoprolol 3 and a half weeks ago, I started getting this pain/discomfort in the circled area. I’ve had multiple CT scans of my chest done back in Jan. I’m worried that it’s cancer. It will happen for a few hours and then go away and then start up again a few hours later.

EDITED I blacked out. Twice.

On Saturday AM, I woke up to my wife rubbing my arm. I kind of understood what the real intention was so I initiated.

Unfortunately, I only realized after she mounted me that I REALLY needed to go drain the snake.

So I jumped out of bed & went to the bathroom. I stood over the toilet to do my business, I was concentrating on not messing because I was still hard & I... blacked out...

Problem being, I stepped backwards & fell onto the corner of the bath cutting a nice deep wound into my back.

She heard me fall & came to help. I was crying out in pain as I cut a nasty gash deep into my back.

I don't remember this part but she told me to go back to the bed & got me up. After getting up I was walking back to the bedroom & blacked out again. This time my right shoulder smashed the wall & my right head too (slight indentation) & I ended up on the floor.. with my eyes rolled back.

She panicked & was calling an ambulance when I came too. She had also put on jeans & a t-shirt so I'm guessing I was out for a few minutes. I told her I was fine & I'll drive myself to the hospital - just get me some honey to raise my blood sugar. Ambulances are expensive & we live 5 minutes from the hospital.

She didn't believe me so I did a few push ups (no idea why I thought this would work).

Anyways we ended up going to the hospital - she drove - and the Dr ran blood tests & a CT scan. Had to get a tetnus jab too. Everything came back normal...

He told me I need to go get my glucose checked. As my dad & sister are diabetic.

My cousin is also a Dr & his diagnosis is hypoglycaemia which IF amplifies. He told me to stop IF. I was on a 13-14 hour fast when this happened.

The right side of my head & neck were super sore last night. But I also had the tetanus jab on that side.

Any advice is appreciated 🙏

Edit - They also did an EKG and glucose test. I did have 1.5 teaspoons of honey before leaving the house so I wouldn't black out going down the stairs so glucose was in an okay range.

Illness Blue, super cold fingers? NSFW

I’m putting this under “illness” because I do believe I, 35F, came down with some minor infection or “bug.” I was shivering and ice cold after a hot shower which is unusual and, even underneath my all seasons comforter, continued to shiver from being cold (in the middle of the afternoon). I am also heat intoleranct, not cold intolerant lol. I’ll choose the cold any day over heat & humidity. Anyway, I eventually felt my body heat back up to a somewhat decent temp, with the exception of my hands. When I started to lose sensation in them, I grew a bit frustrated and looked down to see my fingers and nailbeds blue-tinged. Does this appear to be an oxygen-related thing, or just my mild Raynaud’s flaring up? (Btw, My skin is super dry as I have occasional flares of pretty significant hand eczema)

Thanks in advance :)

EDITED Need honest advice on IUDs because family’s disinformation is absolutely asinine

I (28F) have used IUDs for about 7 years now. Prior to this, I had abnormally heavy bleeding that would often make me so dizzy to the point of passing out, and I eventually later became anemic. As a result, I researched my options thoroughly from reputable medical sources and after much consideration, decided to get Mirena in the hopes of lightening my flow and reducing negative symptoms. Fortunately, I’m happy to say that it has significantly improved my life. My periods are light to nonexistent, and I don’t get that lightheartedness feeling anymore. I trusted my gut, listened to my body, did my research, and made an informed decision. It has felt so good to advocate for myself and take charge of my health.

However, the problem lies with my mother (53F), who is aware of my situation and vehemently disagrees that IUDs are a good idea, even despite me telling her how much it worked for my own personal situation. She has repeatedly shamed me in subtle (and not so subtle) ways for choosing this route, citing that “it’s gross and I’m building up toxins and old blood in my body since I’m not allowing myself to have a period and it’s just collecting since it can’t flow naturally.” EVEN THOUGH I know damn well that that’s not how birth control works in relation to periods. I’ve tried to explain to her that the hormones in an IUD halt the processes that lead to a normal cycle, so there’s no “rotting blood” making me septic, gain weight, smell, or feel sluggish (all things my mother listed word for word). My mom should know this, as she is a nurse for crying out loud. It just feel very irresponsible of her to spread health misinformation like this given her medical background. She has just rejected all sense of logic, as well as the context that different things work for different people. I might add that she is staunchly MAGA and falls deeply into the Christian/holistic wellness pipeline, which I feel like is contributing to her rejection of actual science. She believes that “God has a reason for natural biological processes” so we shouldn’t interfere even if it’s causing us harm. I feel like I am at the point where I can’t educate her on anything because it is all “fake news”, “liberal bias”, and she just distrusts doctors and prescription meds in general. As a result, it’s impossible for her to empathize with certain health challenges I have.

So I guess I just want to know, because I feel like I’m going crazy, is my mother right or is she spreading disinformation? Am I the ill-informed one? She’s making me doubt my own knowledge and my own experience. I just wanted to hear honest feedback & expertise, and thought about posting in the r/AITA subreddit or r/AskReddit but didn’t want to be flagged for discussing medical topics. Any reassurance or advice is much appreciated. Thank you so much!

(I also need to add for context that the reason this conversation even took place was because I had been talking to her about how a probiotic that we were both taking was causing an abnormal odor down there for me so I decided to stop taking it, given the research that’s it’s probably due to an overload of healthy bacteria accumulating and that I probably didn’t need it. But since it worked for her, she completely ignored this and attributed the odor to my birth control and the fact that I don’t have periods, which was such an unrelated pivot from the probiotics. This is my mother, you guys.)

Other Any advice is appreciated! Weird symptoms NSFW

I have been experiencing weird symptoms for a little over a year now. My doctors just keep saying chronic inflammation but my inflammatory makers are always normal (ESR, CRP, HS-CRP) I’m most concerned about my AST and ALT levels which my doctor keeps dismissing. All autoimmune testing has returned normal. Ultrasound and MRI normal of brain and neck. My symptoms over the last year: - swollen cervical lymph nodes. Slowly swelling more and more with new ones appearing along my clavicle. - Eruptive cherry angioma or petechiae, they appear to be petechiae (flat, small, and everywhere) but they have last for a year and keep getting darker with more appearing. - reactive lymphoid hyperplasia in the back of my throat. ENT diagnosed through a picture. - hair loss - headaches - very irregular menstrual cycles - extreme fatigue - constant red swollen eyes - jaw and neck pain - and just little things that probably nothing to do with the other

My doctor is satisfied with the chronic inflammation diagnosis and doesn’t want to look further. But nothing is getting better even after 2 months of moloxicam and a anti inflammatory diet. Thank you for any advice.

EDITED Heart Rate Jumping -- Cardiologist found nothing wrong

So my heartrate will jump from 60 bpm to 120 and back down to 60 all within in a minute's time. This is while sitting still. No movement whatsoever.

I had a heart monitor on for a month last year, and the cardiologist found nothing abnormal, regardless of my descriptions of symptoms, which include light-headedness, shortness of breath, fatigue, and nausea.

I'm student teaching full time right now, and the constant jumping and symptoms are becoming more of a problem. I've already missed all the days I can (4) and still have 3 weeks of teaching left.

Has anyone else had this problem? Should I get an opinion fron a second cardiologist?

For your information, I'm a female in my early 20's. Not sure if that matters at all.

More medical info: hypothyroidism (so on tirosint currently), on Vitamin D as well because my levels are super deficient. No smoking/Marijuana/drinking at all.

Genitalia(18+ for photos-list age) Testicular discomfort sometimes felt in the leg and groin

27M, I basically felt this discomfort for the first time walking. It felt like I'd hit my testicle about 20 minutes ago, when the pain starts to go away and you just feel discomfort in the area.

I only felt it once and it went away. I ended up taking a trip and didn't go to the gym for a month. Now that I'm back and started going to the gym again, that little discomfort has returned.

It's not a discomfort that prevents me from doing anything, but as I'm anxious, my focus stays on this area and it seems that the pain never goes away. Just yesterday I wasn't feeling anything and my wife asked me how this discomfort was and I ended up feeling it again.

I realized that stretching makes this discomfort go away sometimes.

ps: I don't feel pain when I urinate, nor do I feel pain when I ejaculate or when I have an erection.

Medication How to properly take iron supplements?

I recently started taking an iron supplement one capsule daily containing 325mg of ferrous sulfate and 500mg of ascorbic acid(vitamin c). Since starting, I’ve noticed my stool has become darker, and I’ve had some mild stomach discomfort.

I’d like to know the best way to take iron supplements to maximize absorption and minimize side effects.

Should I take it:
- On an empty stomach (before food)?
- With a meal, and if so, before or after eating?

I’m not entirely sure about the proper way to take it and would appreciate any advice!

I (24F) remember accidentally jamming this finger in my dishwasher when i was in middle school and every now and then i’ll start to feel pain at this part of my finger and in the days following i will start to see this greenish yellow color develop under my skin and then after another day or two i keep poking at it to try and flush out the puss and it will eventually go away. My question is: can anyone tell me why is keeps happening? Is this related to this decade old injury?

Mouth/Gums/Throat/Cheeks Allergies, tonsil stones or something else? NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello! Would just like preface I visited my PCP over the weekend and have an upcoming ENT appointment at the end of the month (soonest they could see me).

Been dealing with a scratchy irritated throat and post nasal drainage for about 2 months now. Thinking maybe allergen/ weather related but unsure. I have had some illnesses in between and a tonsil stone I was able to get out of my right tonsil. My right side is consistently more swollen feeling and I feel it up into my sinus and down my ear.

My question is does the photo I included look like something that could be caused by allergies? Or could it be something more concerning? I have health anxiety and have vaped/used THC pens in the past, which obviously have all been stopped for a while now. But the thought still haunts me.

I know I will probably just need to wait to see my ENT but really just looking for some reassurance or a suggestion I may need to find someone sooner.

Thank you!

Injury at what point should i be calling 911

tldr - i hurt my back at work and am at home now and can’t walk, breathe, or really do anything because of how bad my back hurts. should i call 911?

so i (20f) am a host at a restaurant and today at around 5 i was wiping a table and leaning over and then i stood up and felt a sharp pain in my mid right back, just under my rib cage. i had difficulty lifting things, moving my arm up, standing, bending over at all caused the pain to become significantly worse and felt like i was being stabbed in the back. i have minor scoliosis and have general back pain but this is new. i’ve been home from work for a few hours now and the pain hasn’t stopped, if anything it’s gotten worse. about a half hour ago now i was laying in bed on my side in one of the few positions that didn’t feel like there was a knife in my back, and i sat up on the edge of my bed to stand and use the bathroom. i coughed and the pain absolutely exploded, something shifted in my back and i was completely unable to move for about 15 minutes. eventually i was able to get up and take tiny steps to the living room and i almost called 911 while talking to my grandma (who i live with) and while making sure i wouldn’t have to pay for an ambulance with my insurance, i was able to move a little bit and stretch. with major difficulty, i was able to go to the bathroom, and i still can’t really walk or breathe without extreme pain. i am laying down now and scared to move again because even just laying on my back is excruciating and i don’t think i’ll be able to sleep. i am scared and don’t have anyone i can really ask for advice about this and my grandma is not being the most helpful (she can’t really do much), so i am turning to reddit to ask if you people think i need to go to the doctor or wait it out until morning? if i still have this pain in the morning, i will for sure be going to the hospital because i cannot do my job. any help is appreciated, thank you

sincerely, a terrified 20 year old with the worst medical anxiety on the planet

Other Why is this happening to me (UPDATE)

So I went to the doctor and we figured out what's wrong. For the ears problems, it was because I had an ear infection and my right ear ruptured so that's why it hurt. For the throat problems, it was because of strep throat. So now, I have to take 5 pills to take care of it

TW [Trigger Warning] Nail injury (graphic) NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I need some help! Any advice would be highly appreciated.

What happened: I accidentally slammed the door onto my middle left finger, and created a crack right in the middle. Lots of blood came out at first but it stopped now. The nail is still half attached when I tried to shift the top part off. Top part of nail was tiny slightly loose due to the crack, but it holds firmly onto the side of my finger.

Solution: Already cleaned, sanitized and dried the wound using sterile 5% medical soap wipe and sterile bandage. Bandage was changed every 12 hour. Fortunately when it happened, my hand was cleaned and I worn disposable latex gloves at that time.

Now: I can still move, and carry stuff, no sign of intense bruising or pain. Just some light discomfort from the nail bed and some resistance when I used my thumb to press on the middle finger (not on the nail bed) Seems like the nail is glued together?

What should I do next?

Other Docs, Is There an App for Second Opinions for our loved ones? If Not, Let's Create One!

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’ve been thinking, wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a free app or group where doctors could easily connect and provide second opinions, especially when it comes to cases involving our families and loved ones?

A platform where we can collaborate from all specialties, share insights, and make informed decisions to ensure the best care.

Does such an app or group already exist? If not, would anyone be interested in creating one? Let’s brainstorm and see if we can make it happen!

Skin issues/Rashes/Freckles/Moles Lump on upper eyelid that isn't getting bigger or smaller-Is it just a stye or worse?

Upvotes

I noticed a rather sizeable lump on my upper eyelid (about the size of a jelly tot). It isn't painful, but it hasn't budged in about 2 weeks. My dad said its probably just a stye and will go on its own. Could it be anything else? I've had a stye when I was younger which was much smaller, and went away much quicker.

Medication Need Help! Not being taken seriously by doctors

Upvotes

Hi, I am seeking help here as a last resort. For the last 2 months I have been dealing with the following symptoms that have been dehiblating. I am currently a grad student they make them difficult and exhausting do got to work and function on the daily.

It started as chills and fatigue. I went to my doctors who ran bloodwork that came back relatively normal. They told me that it was probably a virus. Since that day 2 months ago my health has nose dived, I've had fatigue and weakness that had made moving feel exhausting. I constantly feel short of breath even when I am not moving. I feel constantly nausous. There is pain in my ribs, chest, and back that if you press on feel shooting. I will suddenly get shooting pain in my leg, arms, back, and ribs. Another major issue is I have very bad brain fog, dizziness, and forgetfulness. I am forgetting thinks I normally remember. I got more bloodwork and my iron is low, my TSH is slightly elevated and my thyroid antibodies are slightly elevated. I've gone to PCP twice and both of them were bad experiences. I've grown up with GAD, that I've always managed. Symptoms are ruinmating and I've always managed them well. Last semester *6 months ago* my sister got really sick and it triggered a really bad anxiety uptick and deprssion. Her health has been better for 3-4 months and I've been happy and managed very well. This medical issue is new and foreign to me and my body and a huge interference in my ability to function. Because this thing happened in the past all my PCPs want to chalk it up to anxiety. Its frustrating and humiliating that they won't hear out what has happened because they have come to their own conclusion about my past. I know anxtety can exbcatie symptoms so I've been doing a lot of self care, but I also know my body and habits and what is abnormal. Someone even told me it was PMS. It's so upsetting when you can see a doctors eyes go dull because they project your past onto you and don't trust you. I don't know what to do.

Medication What’s going on?

(Mods recategorise this post if wrong flair) I’ve been having stomach aches and mild nausea since Saturday, that started out with an almost burning throat, I thought this was indigestion as I’ve had similar before, so I’ve tried all sorts of herbal teas with no relief. Not even Rennie’s indigestion tablets help. I’m starting to worry this is something worse.
