Politics Neo-NAZIs Ranting and recruiting on Brunton Avenue on the way to the G
Heading into the footy at the G yesterday, we were confronted by a Neo-NAZI haranguing the crowd from the middle of Brunton Avenue outside Richmond station. He had acolytes handing out flyers behind him and it was good to see most people refused them. But no one spoke up or called them out.
The very existence of people openly spouting racist bigotry on our streets is something I find deeply offensive. Doing on the path of pilgrimage to our fine city's most popular shrine ought to be intolerable and we, collectively, should not stand for it.
So I did something that I know was the right thing (but did draw the ire of my wife becauseshe finds people like that intimidating). I yelled out over the top of his booming voice (mine's louder) to crawl back under the rock he he came from and take his vile hatred with him.
It was the effort of less than 30 seconds, but others in the throng, at least briefly, made their detest for this kind of thing known to these scum, telling them to bugger off. It didn't stop them and I didn't expect it would. It did, however, give space for others to call them out. It did make THEM uncomfortable, even if momentarily. And it did show other young men heading to the footy, the kind they try to attract, that the kind of racist, misogynist and otherwise bigoted crap they preach is not ok.
Hopefully, my little spray also meant that the people in that part of the crowd who aren't white and aren't male and aren't straight saw that at least some 40s white men are on their side and will stand up for them against this disgusting rubbish that feels free to try and intimidate and isolate them from our society.
I just want to encourage everyone to call these tricks out wherever you come across them. Make them the ones who feel uncomfortable and hopefully we can shame them back under the rocks they have crawled out from in recent years.

Om nom nom The strip with the most drive thrus
Look I'm not proud putting this here but hoping someone can direct me!
It's my cousin's 18th soon and with that comes driving freedom - the day he gets his P's we have talked about driving through as many drive thrus as possible and getting one small snack from each.
Will I regret it? Probably. Will the 18 year old have a fun time? Absolutely.
So reddit, what street/strip has the most drive thrus??

Light and Fluffy News Computer Swap Meets are still a thing!
A friend mentioned they went to one today, at the Darebin Sports Centre on Plenty Rd.
Sadly more accessories than PC parts, though there were 2nd hand laptops. And entry is still cheap - $3.
Maybe this is common knowledge but with the ease of online ordering and chains like Scorptec I thought there was no longer any demand for swap meets. Brought back memories, I used to go regularly and find great bargains.
edit: http://www.technologymarkets.com.au/ has the dates if anyone's interested

Real estate/Renting Suburb advice.
I am returning to Melbourne after being in Brisbane for 13 years. Retiring and want to be with my family who live in Mernda. Looking to buy a house nearby, but not too close, and I’m wondering what certain suburbs are like now. Looking at Mill Park, Craigieburn, Doreen, Wallan, and any place within 30 mins of Mernda. If anyone can give me the good, bad and the ugly around these areas.

Things That Go Ding Did anyone else catch a rail replacement bus towards Werribee last weekend?
I don’t know if the bus service was like this before 12:00AM on a Sunday morning, but I had to wait 1 hour and 59 minutes at North Melbourne for a Donric rail replacement bus while Sunshine got a bus every 15 minutes. I also noticed it was 1 bus which was inadequate for the amount of people boarding the bus.
I don’t know who plans the bus schedules but I can tell it was very pathetic.

Not On My Smashed Avo AITA for prioritizing my safety and not taking a risk with a red light ticket then telling a police officer it's my call on my own safety.
Last year, I was given a red light ticket in Fitzroy when I saw a police car with sirens come up behind me. I was in the right lane in a 2 lane road and there was a car to my left. So I checked the traffic and drove past the car to my left and into the intersection to let the cop drive past. Not long after, I get a email for a fine. Didn't think much of it, so I disputed it and explained the circumstances. To my shock, I got a letter denying my dispute and the traffic cop wrote they deemed it a "safety issue" and would not rescind my fine. So that's almost $500 of fines. Lesson learned.
So yesterday, i was at another intersection and the same event happened. A police car was coming up with lights and turned on a siren. I couldn't get out the way without risking another red light ticket so I just moved a bit to the left and gave him space so they could overtake when safe. He didn't and when the light did turn green, I drove past the car on my left and gave the cop car a clear lane. For some reason, the cop decided despite the code 1 (lights and sirens), it would be good to pull up next to me and give me and earful. He basically asked me why didn't I move out the way and I told him it wasn't safe and that I wasn't going to risk getting a red light ticket. He told me there wasn't much traffic but I reminded him that's my call to make and if it wasn't so risky, he could've just overtaken me in the other side of the road.
He got agitated and asked me why I'm being a jackass.
Here is where I think I could be the asshole: I told him he can thank his traffic police colleagues for fining me previously. i also told him I would give way to ambulances and fire trucks because they didn't decide to fine me $500 dollars and I'm not going to risk another $500 fine on his and his colleagues good graces. I told him he should respond to his code 1 rather than waste my time. He gave me a dirty look and drove off.
I told my partner and she understands where I come from since she was with me last I time I was fined but my BIL said I was an ass and the risk of a fine is worth it for police. AITA?
EDIT:
I found out I had a fine through a Fines Victoria email. That arrived wayyyy before the letter.
For deathmetalmedic who said I lied as "Fines Victoria don't send emails". Here is their website https://online.fines.vic.gov.au/News/Why-have-I-received-an-email-from-Fines-Victoria. Here is the picture of the email: https://imgur.com/a/Na464sI. Got the email a full week before the letter arrived.
I do understand through learning to drive to give way to emergency vehicles. The "legal" part is the part I don't quite get and i originally thought common sense would prevail. There are so many edge cases where it taking evasive action could be technically not legal but acceptable. Ie, pulling into a bike lane to allow a firetruck to pass. In my first time, I thought common sense should apply but I guess the traffic cop reviewing my fine didn't agree so this second time, I stuck to the letter of the law.
As one of the PM mentioned, the first time with the review photos during the fine, there was an snap of the police car behind me although it was not clear the lights were on. That was apparently not enough to appeal the fine this time round I didn't take any chances. I was quite surprised by the officers reaction - like it was expected of me to take that action. It's just bizarre.
I also did feel guilty which is one of the reasons I posted here. The cop yesterday was clearly having a rough day. I know i shouldn't have given it back to him and just let him give his little speech.

Politics Are the Casey Council 2018 & onwards the worst council local council in vic?
Bit of a hyperbole rant but they've just closed another historic venue in Cranbourne (yeah haha) and now I've just found out that they plan to decommision and demolish the buildings where the local library and to rebuild it.
Everything they touch and say they're going to rebuild either ends up not being followed through on or made to be cheap, white and beige.
I'm already annoyed with them for not keeping any records of local news online pre 2004, no records or photos of the now long gone great playgrounds from Tooradin and Blind Bight, the old Tooradin muesum and bunyip river ride..
But between the illegal estate development of Clyde which was met with a whoops too late sorry, and the eventually sacking of the entire then council for corruption to now an even worse council where they are saying it's illegal to work on your own car on your private property or leave a caravan there etc... I'm ironically at a loss for words of how they can keep continue operating like this and face no actual repercussions.
Also pity they never protected the old cranbourne swimming pools. Which are now gone... and destroying half the natural serentiy of the cranbourne botanical gardens by allowing estate housing to be built right on the fence line.
I think im just sad and nostalgic about how Casey used to be. There's nothing here now except for a higher population than Tasmania has & bottle necked roads everywhere. Le sigh.

THDG Need Help Anyone know someone who can disassemble and reassemble a sofa to fit through a narrow hallway?
Hey all,
I’ve got a bit of a furniture dilemma—my sofa won’t fit through a tight hallway, and I’m looking for someone who can professionally disassemble and reassemble it inside the room.
Has anyone used a service like this before or know someone reliable who does this kind of work? Ideally someone experienced.
Appreciate any recommendations!

Om nom nom Restaurants and bars with counter seating (between Reservoir/Preston/Thornbury to CBD)?
Going to eat out by myself is my favourite thing to do, but I've realised I'm waayy more comfortable when I'm seated at a bar, taking up room for one person, then when I'm at a table for two or more. Bonus, sometimes if they feel like it the staff will have a chat with you.
I'd really like to lean into that more, but all the places I've been to like that so far have been a random find. Unless it's a specific highlight, like at a sushi restaurant, places won't advertise it and I've found out the hard way that even if photos show a bar/counter with stools, they may not actually seat people there, even if you ask them if you can.
I live in the Reservoir/Preston area, work in the CBD and don't drive, so if anyone has any recommendations of places they've been (for food or drinks, either) anywhere in between I'd be really grateful!
