NSW Government Petition - Conduct a Feasibility Study for a Northern Beaches Metro Line

Upvotes

Due to all of the issues we on the Northern Beaches experience with transport to the city and beyond, I've submitted a petition to the NSW Government to Conduct a Feasibility Study for a Northern Beaches Metro Line.

The petition has been accepted and will presented to parliament by our local member MP Michael Regan.

The petition is not to commit to building a metro line. It is specifically a request to conduct a feasibility study.

If you like this idea, please help by signing the petition at

https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/la/Pages/ePetition-details.aspx?q=vBxAUwP7TPgRAxGc-3Qt9w&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR5aPRj6ayq5KG1D76qVZb6OX5EhYWlEOZidOKeLgEI3dHCXELYd9FWZTiX6LA_aem_9W4RAH9s8jP7B3dU2riNhQ

The petition is worded as:

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,

The primary mode of public transport between Sydney’s Central Business District and the Northern Beaches is the B-Line bus service, operated by Keolis Downer.

With ongoing housing developments in the region, the existing road infrastructure—comprising Pittwater Road, Condamine Street, and Military Road—will reach its capacity, significantly limiting traffic flow and public transport efficiency.

The B-Line service has proven insufficient to meet the current and projected demand, necessitating a long-term, sustainable solution.

We propose the development of a Metro train line operating underground, with suggested stations at Brookvale, Dee Why, and Mona Vale. Such an initiative would provide substantial benefits, including reduced traffic congestion, shorter travel times, and lower carbon emissions, ultimately improving connectivity for residents of the Northern Beaches and the wider NSW community.

We ask the Legislative Assembly to urge the government to take immediate action to commence feasibility studies, cost assessments, and planning for an underground Metro train line to the Northern Beaches, with stations at Brookvale, Dee Why, and Mona Vale, to address growing transport demands and improve connectivity.

Perhaps in some transport news that is not really talked about much, Pirrama Park Wharf will open today – on April 7, 2025 – on the F10 Blackwattle Bay Line.

GEC Z8420 Streetlight

Hi All,

Some of you may remember me from previous posts I made regarding streetlights over the past few years.

Yesterday I was out on another photography trip to document more lights, and went out of my way to make sure that I photographed this fixture while in the area.

What's so special about this one?

This is a GEC Z8420 street light from the 1960s, one of 6 known to have been installed in Sydney on catenary wire opposed to a regular pole installation. Out of those original 6 installed by Ausgrid, 4 remain in 2024, with the other 2 having been replaced by LED fixtures when they stopped working.

This light is located in Lane Cove, on Burns Bay Road, and uses either a 250 or 400 watt mercury vapour (MBF/U) lamp. The remaining other 3 of these Z8420 catenary installations are located down near Bankstown/Milperra. These Z8420 lights do not have integral gear, so the lamp ballast and electrical terminal blocks are located in a remote gear tray on one of the poles that the catenary wire is suspended from. These (and many others using conventional HID lamps) are on their way out due to the mass migration to LED fixtures, and the lamp replacement program having been discontinued. As soon as the lamp reaches EOL (typically 2-3 years from installation), or any of the other electrical components fail, this will be replaced with a modern LED equivalent.

As LED replacements carry on, I'm trying my best to photograph more of the original HID based fixtures across Sydney before they are gone for good, and this one has been on my list for a while. Due to the rarity of it, and the niche information I have on it, I thought I might as well share it here!

Happy to answer any questions if anyone has any :)

GoGet for weekend getaway as a visiting european

Hi everyone,

I'm currently on a business trip in Sydney (will be staying 6 weeks) and I'm thinking of renting a car to go down south to Jervis bay and/or kangaroo valley for a weekend. I see GoGet is quite popular for car-rental but I'm not sure how easy it is to use for just a weekend, and as a foreign traveler? Would you recommend GoGet or should I rather use some more traditional car rental services like Hertz? Thanks!

My cousins from the UK are coming over, staying in sydney for 2 weeks. What's around I can show them?

So they mostly wanna hang around the city and look around. That should narrow things (so no hiking in blue mountains or the lovely streets of mt druitt)

They like cafes - any nice ones? (the ones around my office are really just quick, duck in and out for coffee) Or dessert places?

I was also going to show them the harbor and botanic gardens but thats all I could think of.

We were going to go to qvb and the strand to do shopping. Any other cool places?

Where can one acquire an actual used Sydney trains network map?

Thought it’d be something cool to have as some sort of room decoration! I’m after one that was previously used, like something that was displayed at a station or on train. Thanks!

Finding lost car key

I lost my car key yesterday in the CBD areas, anywhere between Town Hall (Galeries), Chinatown, Haymarket and Sydney Fish Market.

What are my chances of finding it? What's my best bet?

Pubs showing Super Rugby in Sydney CBD or inner west

Are there any pubs in the city or inner west that show the Super Rugby on Stan sports and not just the Saturday night match on Nine. Used to go to Haymarket Hotel but went there yesterday and they couldn't show it after some renovations.

Which place can book a good meeting room?

I work from home but want to meet some clients. My home obviously isn't suitable for this.

What are nice meeting rooms in the city to book for this? A hotel or WeWork? Any tips?

Thanks a lot.

Image Is that safe to allow Lithium battery e-bike on Metro?

Giving the risk and danger associated with e-bike battery, is that safe for them to be on fully enclosed underground autonomous Metro services? Don’t mean to make it harder for delivery guys but if it’s on fire it will be devastating
