if they want us not to pirate their shit they have to make it accessible. it costs at minimum 450 + 50/yearly to play wind waker, a game from 2003. there is 0 chance thats a reasonable price
No one said that. I never said don't pirate. I get it, gaming is important to a lot of people, but it isn't a right. It's also not a right to own a marketable plushie , or watch a movie in theatres, or go to Disney world. These are all overpriced commodities. Which means it's not your right to experience them
You're totally right, free access to the knowledge-base of humanity isn't at all a human right. The fact that it's 20+ years old and become a staple of the culture totally doesn't mean a person has a right to, y'know, access their cultural heritage. Everyone knows that art should be left to disappear so that new artists can make more money, since that's the only reason art exists. /s
You're right that it's not a "right to play video games." That's true. But a lot of REALLY dumb shit is tangentially connected to it that you're not mentioning. It's possible to agree with your literal words, and also recognize the point you're trying to make with them is 100% wrong.
if you have to buy a second hand 2 decade old piece of hardware for games this old isnt accessible. and im not sure what the price of a gc is nowadays but 225 dollars needed to play a 2 decade old game is insane
Yeah if the choice between paying premium official prices or premium collector prices... I'm gonna use a rom and an emulator. I personally own an N64, Gamecube, Wii, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and a PC with a variety of games for both, I'm still gonna pirate and emulate because these consoles and games are all aging and degrading faster than we think, and I can play every single game from all of these catalogues on my easily replaceable pc, it's a no brainer for anyone actually interested in playing these games long term.
But Nintendo wouldn’t get the money anyways. So might as well emulate unless you really need to give money to a collector first to clear your conscience before playing a video game.
nintendo can be greedy but this isn’t the gotcha everyone thinks it is. The illegal part of emulation isn’t the emulation software, it’s illegally obtaining the games to play. Nintendo owns the games so if they’re distributing the games themselves through emulation they’re not doing anything wrong. I don’t see why people who hold Nintendo at fault for resellers pumping prices would be upset at Nintendo offering a cheap, official way to emulate games on their console. That being said, the switch 2’s pricing is nuts and unless GameCube emulation is coming to the first switch people are def right to be mad abt that
the game you’re referring to came with Mario sunshine and Mario galaxy so to say it’s “60 dollar Mario 64” is a bit dishonest. There’s also the fact Nintendo online is like 20 bucks a year iirc and comes with way more games and other stuff. It’s also kinda ridiculous to be mad Nintendo didn’t make the emulation software themselves as if big companies haven’t been publishing work by other studios for like… ever. Especially when, in this case, it makes no actual difference in the product.
Thing is, I’m not even against piracy. I’ve homebrewed my Wii in the past to pirate N64 and GameCube games. But to act like Nintendo is a hypocrite for being cool with emulating THEIR own games on THEIR console, but not others doing it on other hardware is silly
