While using emulators when re-releasing their old classics.

such respect, much class

Such surprise that Nintendo would be ok with emulating the games they actually own, and not the pirated copies that 95% of people run emulators with.

if they want us not to pirate their shit they have to make it accessible. it costs at minimum 450 + 50/yearly to play wind waker, a game from 2003. there is 0 chance thats a reasonable price

"if they want us not to USE THE FREELY SHARED VERSION of the games....

i suggest to not use the language of the enemies.

freeing software from evil drm is not a crime. it is our right to do so.

don't use "pirate" when refering to your actual rights and to art preservation.

nintendo are giant art destroyers.

they are setting art on fire on mass! making games impossible to play at all.

this is nintendo:

people, who share roms, or create emulators are people, who are fighting the art destroying inquisition here and NOT "pirates".

Don't justify yourself as some sort of hero. I don't mind piracy, but it's super cringe when people act so self righteously.

It's not a right to play video games.

9

u/12halo3 8d ago

Your right i should lick corporate boots that refuse to make their games accessible.

-5

u/EmporerM 8d ago

No one said that. I never said don't pirate. I get it, gaming is important to a lot of people, but it isn't a right. It's also not a right to own a marketable plushie , or watch a movie in theatres, or go to Disney world. These are all overpriced commodities. Which means it's not your right to experience them

you are cringe as fuck,

be better to attack this from the copy right is too long category instead of trying to argue Gamers have a right to other people's creations

, shorten it to 20 or 25 years not 100 and then it e

1

u/12halo3 7d ago

That's the exact same argument you moron.

You're totally right, free access to the knowledge-base of humanity isn't at all a human right. The fact that it's 20+ years old and become a staple of the culture totally doesn't mean a person has a right to, y'know, access their cultural heritage. Everyone knows that art should be left to disappear so that new artists can make more money, since that's the only reason art exists. /s

You're right that it's not a "right to play video games." That's true. But a lot of REALLY dumb shit is tangentially connected to it that you're not mentioning. It's possible to agree with your literal words, and also recognize the point you're trying to make with them is 100% wrong.

u/EmporerM 8d ago

It's more of a matter of disagreement in what defines a right, which I'm not going to argue on the Internet. So goodbye.

You have no right leaving an internet discussion like that! Back in front, comrade

u/JimboTCB 8d ago

I mean, you could buy a gamecube and an original copy on Ebay for like half that much and play it forever for no additional cost

25

u/assbutt-cheek 8d ago

if you have to buy a second hand 2 decade old piece of hardware for games this old isnt accessible. and im not sure what the price of a gc is nowadays but 225 dollars needed to play a 2 decade old game is insane

u/BearFluffy 8d ago

Why not just whip out your original wii?

u/HoneyBunchesOfBoats 8d ago

Yeah if the choice between paying premium official prices or premium collector prices... I'm gonna use a rom and an emulator. I personally own an N64, Gamecube, Wii, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and a PC with a variety of games for both, I'm still gonna pirate and emulate because these consoles and games are all aging and degrading faster than we think, and I can play every single game from all of these catalogues on my easily replaceable pc, it's a no brainer for anyone actually interested in playing these games long term.

3

u/NatomicBombs 8d ago

But Nintendo wouldn’t get the money anyways. So might as well emulate unless you really need to give money to a collector first to clear your conscience before playing a video game.

u/penanceffect 8d ago

nintendo can be greedy but this isn’t the gotcha everyone thinks it is. The illegal part of emulation isn’t the emulation software, it’s illegally obtaining the games to play. Nintendo owns the games so if they’re distributing the games themselves through emulation they’re not doing anything wrong. I don’t see why people who hold Nintendo at fault for resellers pumping prices would be upset at Nintendo offering a cheap, official way to emulate games on their console. That being said, the switch 2’s pricing is nuts and unless GameCube emulation is coming to the first switch people are def right to be mad abt that

4

u/Pattalus 8d ago

He says while Nintendo acitvely shuts down Emulators While also using non self-made Emulators on the Switch

5

u/penanceffect 8d ago edited 8d ago

it took like two seconds of googling to see your statement is inaccurate

the emulators in question were taken down for doing more than just emulation, and Nintendo has admitted emulators themselves are legal

the game you’re referring to came with Mario sunshine and Mario galaxy so to say it’s “60 dollar Mario 64” is a bit dishonest. There’s also the fact Nintendo online is like 20 bucks a year iirc and comes with way more games and other stuff. It’s also kinda ridiculous to be mad Nintendo didn’t make the emulation software themselves as if big companies haven’t been publishing work by other studios for like… ever. Especially when, in this case, it makes no actual difference in the product.

Thing is, I’m not even against piracy. I’ve homebrewed my Wii in the past to pirate N64 and GameCube games. But to act like Nintendo is a hypocrite for being cool with emulating THEIR own games on THEIR console, but not others doing it on other hardware is silly
