Damn, not only perfectly timed, but perfectly placed as well!

Even the planes pumped the breaks for a few seconds to hit it right. Incredible!

It's amazing how well they can time those flyovers. Blue Angels are badass.
14
u/mr_potatoface 5d ago
Those are the thunderbirds I think. 16s not 18s.
-3
u/RBuilds916 5d ago
You're right. The FA-18 has a different shape, and zooming in I can see the paint, not just the silhouette. And the navy doesn't wear white pants. I looked and I couldn't find when the Thunderbirds went from a five plane formation to six planes.
8
u/PM_MeYour_pitot_tube 5d ago
The Navy does wear white pants. The uniform is even called “dress whites.”
These are the Thunderbirds though. This is the flyover for the USAFA graduation. Happens every year.
8
u/TheChrono 5d ago
Pretty sure the hat throwers were the ones timing it…
15
u/CatWeekends 5d ago
It's a little bit of both, which is why they're almost always able to perfectly time their stadium flyovers during the national anthem.
Flyovers have to be carefully timed, usually so that the fighter jets appear just as the national anthem finishes (during the "home of the brave" line). The calculations are all performed on a computer, using GPS coordinates and a target speed. Meanwhile, the planes are in a holding pattern near the event site. When a spotter positioned on the ground gives the command, the planes are off and soar over the event right on cue.

u/Top-Sheepherder-3657 5d ago
It's generally treated as a training exercise.
Time management is a critical skill for pilots.

Check out their IMAX. 400 mph 12 inches apart doing a rolling diamond (stay in a diamond while the whole thing does a roll)
I think running that on time is their wheelhouse. Their insanely talented wheelhouse.

Are you talking about the two obvious women in the video? Their balls?
33
u/articulateantagonist 5d ago edited 5d ago
Not that it really matters, but I see one person on the left with female bits and one on the right with male bits.
If we're talking tailoring, you can see that the person on the left (from our perspective) has a top that accommodates breasts + pants that are fitted to a typical women's waistline and hip/thigh shape. The person on the right, pants-wise, dresses to the left to accomodate their genitals and, despite also having a high waistline, has a comparatively looser fit from the waist down, which is typical of men's military dresswear.

u/echocall2 5d ago
Yeah this is one of their traditions
30
u/Stormlightlinux 5d ago
The energy at the stadium when this happens is electric. Completely insane.
17
u/Seastarstiletto 5d ago
Yeah because sitting through it for hours and it’s finally over! Love my brother, but daaaamn that was rough.
1
u/backfromsolaris 2d ago
Not to mention a crazy air show directly above the stadium usually ensues afterwards
2
39
u/CatsAreMajorAssholes 5d ago
The United State Air Force Academy Commencement in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This is an annual tradition with the hat toss and the Air Force Thunderbirds flyover synchronized. The person at the podium announcing the dismissal is watching the Thunderbirds approach the stadium and will announce "DISMISSED!" at just the right time to have the hats in the air as they fly over.
Typically, either the President, Vice President, or Secretary of Defense are the Commencement speakers. After the hat toss, the Thunderbirds circle back around and perform their aerial maneuvers show directly above the stadium.
This is what it looks like non-crotch shot
source: I live across the street.
2
u/hkohne 5d ago
This would be awesome to see!
4
u/CatsAreMajorAssholes 5d ago
You can watch the Thunderbirds from outside the stadium. Plenty of good vantage points. They come in a few days before and do several practice shows, and if the weather agrees- I think the practice shows are even better than Commencement day.

u/DayForIt 5d ago
No clue why you got downvoted. This is the equivalent of those tiktok/twitter OF bots. They comment based on the caption. It absolutely is a bot, without a doubt.
10
u/complaintsandrecomme 5d ago
What part of the post title did the bot pick up on to include the airplane emojis?
2
u/CupcakesAreMiniCakes 4d ago
Machine learning computer vision could easily identify planes in the video
2
2
u/DayForIt 5d ago
Good question to be honest. It could also be viewing the video to create the comment, or the other comments as well. I’m not entirely sure. The same thing happens on TikToks though - with the emojis, I mean.
3
u/Laoscaos 5d ago
The Profile seems to be an only fans and, so does that person hire bots, or is the entire OF page bots? Bots all the way down?
5
u/DayForIt 5d ago
Yes most likely the person who owns the OF account is not the one making comments/posts.

And they were all in high school during orange man’s first term and thought “Military sounds pretty good. I’m gonna sign up as soon as I can!”
I’m not sure if it’s better or worse than the select few special people that enlisted during the Vietnam war. Though I guess if you enlisted rather than being drafted you had a bit more choice about where you’d end up. This feels worse.

u/12of12MGS 5d ago edited 5d ago
Reddit moment
Probably hard for you to imagine but some people like the idea of serving.
Also 2/3 of the military were volunteers during Vietnam, 1/3 drafted. So not a “select few”

Comment section is weird because some swear it's two guys, some say it's two women, and I see one guy on the right and a lady on the left.
Is this like the Blue/White dress meme
4
u/-neti-neti- 5d ago
Yeah you can freeze it on the frame when you see their faces. It’s a guy on the right and a woman on the left. I was wrong

I thought someone's hat was going to land on someone else's head.
Instead it's just planes happened to be in the center of the camera during the hat throw.

u/Shadowoperator7 5d ago
Yeah the service academies understand timing if nothing else. As a navy mid who loves to shit on Air Force, I think they’re probably the best at it.

-3
u/Manburpig 5d ago
You got me. That's what I do with my life: make references to South Park characters.
What I do with my life is more important than what any loser that joins the military does.
2
u/Kolby_Jack33 5d ago
Anyone can lie on the internet.
I'm an astronaut.

Only difference was I wasn't lying lol. And I don't care what you think haha

u/Kolby_Jack33 5d ago
Yeah, you sound like someone who doesn't care.
1
u/Manburpig 5d ago
And you sound like someone who has no life direction, so they join the military. Then they can be told what to do LOL
Get more defensive, loser.

That's true. Or at least it was when I was 20.

Pilots are required to perform a minimum amount of flight hours. Flying over a military graduation would fulfill some of that time.
Golfing is not a requirement and costs more than that flyover.
7
u/PandaDentist 5d ago
Also the same reason they do flyovers for sporting events. The guys planning and flying these things have to be able to be over target at exactly the right time, it's no surprise this worked in the gif
6
u/EpicBeardMan 5d ago
It isn't just flight hours. Getting a jet in the right place at the right time takes practice for a lot more people that just the pilots.
0
-4
u/Manburpig 5d ago
Fighter pilots are obselete lol.
We barely use them anymore.
1
u/RydeOrDyche 5d ago
The biggest news in the last week was the Signal leak. Which involved fighter jets being used.
2
u/Shifty_Gelgoog 5d ago
The jets belong to the USAF Thunderbird Aerial Demonstration Team, whose entire reason for existing is to motivate recruitment. At least a few of those newly-commissioned 2Lts likely joined in part due to seeing the Thunderbirds.
The team and their maintenance also need to practice, and at least a few of the pilots are likely academy grads, so it's rather fitting that the Thunderbirds do a flyover for their own Air Force Academy during a commissioning ceremony.
