Bring in Washington and Oregon and get a corridor up the west coast. Let’s connect Canada and Mexico and the sane US states to create a powerhouse trading union

I'm renouncing my US citizenship for a Cascadia passport day one.

u/Red_Eleven_17 1d ago

Cascadia has a nice ring to it.

70

u/shadovvvvalker 1d ago

One of the large problems the US has is that it isn't really 1 nation.

Its 5 nations in a trench coat.

Cascadia, Dixie, New England, Midwest, Bigger texas.

21

u/NDSU 1d ago

New England should be Arcadia. It sounds so much better

25

u/Canvaverbalist 19h ago

Cascadia, Dixadia, Arcadia, Midcadia, Y'allqaedia

7

u/shadovvvvalker 1d ago

Hadn't learned that one. Adding to memory.

4

u/thisischemistry 20h ago edited 19h ago

Already taken: Arcadia

Do you mean Acadia?

We could always go back to the original name: Dominion of New England

or: New England Confederation

Oooo: Ninnimissinuok or Narragansett

u/account312 7h ago

New Arcadia in on brand.

2

u/newenglandpolarbear New Hampshire 13h ago

I think you mean Acadia, and even though I like Acadia as a name, no. New England forever.

Maybe we could use it as an officially recognized nickname. Kinda like how USA is often shortened to just America.

Also, the official Natuonal motto would be "Nunquam libertas gratior extat".

3

u/NiviCompleo 1d ago

If Colorado is in Bigger Texas, can we trade for Cascadia?

2

u/shadovvvvalker 1d ago

Utah and Nevada would never agree. Your better off joining the Midwest.

257

u/heliumneon 1d ago

The two new countries could be Cascadia and Gilead.

210

u/ProjectGO 1d ago

Don't forget Cascadia's eastern trading partner, New-er England.

22

u/fishmister7 1d ago

We will welcome you all here in Minnesanada

Megasota

17

u/Ozymandias0023 Nevada 1d ago

Megasota is awesome

10

u/HauntedCemetery Minnesota 1d ago

The Committe to Make Minnesota Bigger is on it.

2

u/mexican2554 22h ago

Can Newer New Mexico establish trade with Megasota?

1

u/DandyLyen 21h ago

No, you just apply for Minnesota-ship, and are eventually just absorbed, like The Blob

2

u/SuperSoakerLiker 1d ago

Extremely forced reference if I ever saw one

1

u/The_Fudir 1d ago

Hey us down here in New Mexico really, really don't wanna be part of Gilead.

1

u/WhiteSpec 21h ago

Gilead? Are we heading toward the Dark Tower?

1

u/GenevieveLeah 9h ago

Ew, that would put me in Gilead.

1

u/Electronic_Warning49 1d ago

Dark tower reference?

9

u/NPRdude Canada 1d ago

Handmaid's Tale

9

u/Electronic_Warning49 1d ago

Weird, in the dark tower it's cascadia and new Gilead.

11

u/NPRdude Canada 1d ago

Well the idea of Cascadia predates both Handmaid's Tale and The Dark Tower, and I think Gilead is from the bible so their either both referencing that or one is referencing the other.

7

u/Electronic_Warning49 1d ago

I could have googled but I love the casual drip of information from strangers on the internet. Thanks!

5

u/gnarbone 1d ago

Yeah the Cascadia movement has been around for a while and is pretty serious. They even have a flag!

1

u/hikenmap 1d ago

No flag no country!

Drip:

Tumbleweed isn't native to America it's an invasive species from Russia and the USDA was created in part as a federal body to try to combat it.

1

u/CircumventingTheBan_ 11h ago

Does that mean when Trump disbands the USDA, the tumbleweeds will have won?

It's our very own emu war, god damn.

The cascade of powerhouse states leaving the US to fend for itself.

6

u/In-The-Cloud 1d ago

Cascadia has been a west coast fantasy for decades

2

u/Indubitalist 1d ago

It does, but I like the bitter irony of “Freedomland.”

Truth And Freedom Land

2

u/tame-til-triggered 22h ago

Doesn't it?!

I'd be fucking stoked saying I was Cascadian.. like I'm from some mythical, fantasy nation

1

u/definitivescribbles 1d ago

California is just fine

1

u/Western-Purpose4939 1d ago

I already live in Cascadia! I’m spreading this word around for sure.

So will the Cascada earthquake, by the way. Once that happens, California will be in for a mega disaster.

The best ring!

1

CASCADIA! FUCK YEAH!

It kind of works

Immediately.

If New England held an independence referendum I would unironically vote for it.

3

u/catsandstuff03 1d ago

Thats for when we join canada.🇨🇦

3

u/Cammibird 1d ago

Same. I still think it's a pipe dream and can't believe it could ever actually happen - but if somehow the momentum for this builds I am 1000% on board. getting real tired of the red parts of this country hanging from our necks like a stone.

3

u/Acceptable_Buy177 1d ago

I just mention it around people every once in a while. Maybe in a generation it will have some real momentum.

2

u/ProphetMotives 15h ago

You could also join Canada along with the West cosst and then we still get to be together

4

u/WraithKaiser 1d ago

Throw in PA and you've got my vote

32

u/Calvins8 1d ago

I was thinking about that the other day. I identify as a new englander way more than an American. I've traveled to other areas of the country a handful of times and feel like I'm in a different country.

32

u/closetsquirrel 1d ago

Come to the Pacific Northwest! Top corners unite!

5

u/Absurdkale 1d ago

I identify as a PNW more than anything. Stating I'm American has a lot less meaning and pretty vague culturally now anyway rather than pnw

12

u/gordongroans 1d ago

I once came back into the US from an overseas trip, and went thru customs in LA. The lady said "Welcome home" and I replied that I wasn't home until back in Oregon. She got furious with me, had my bags pulled for a full search while she could tell me what in improper American I was. I replied back to her that I was an Oregonian.

2

u/grey_scribe 1d ago

I been feeling the exact same way for a while now. California is my home and just like yourself, no matter where else I live in the US, I feel the culture and politics is quite different. Especially the south and central US.

-2

u/ChaseGjamz 1d ago

i know your from west coast but dont let this ignorant commenter confuse you on how racist and backwards new england is. Probably the most racist place ive ever been, and statistically the most segregated in the entire country. CT is a bunch of NIMBY rich whites, Mass is a bunch of racist whites, and Vermont is a bunch of white farmers. Period.

0

u/ChaseGjamz 15h ago

getting down voted but no one is leaving a reply. . . . . . mad because truth hurts - edit: or theyre just dying to say the n word, way to go boston

-2

u/ChaseGjamz 1d ago

acting like mass doesnt have some of the dumbest racists in the entire country and CT doesnt have some of the most money hungry dragons is crazy

13

u/Plslisten69 1d ago

r/cascadia for anyone interested.

7

u/chickentataki99 1d ago

As a Canadian, I couldn't imagine something more ideal. Let's get that high speed rail built too.

6

u/just_a_bit_gay_ Michigan 1d ago

<you solely are responsible for this>

3

u/GaiaMoore California 1d ago

And this here is where Cascadia and Jefferson State will start engaging in their own wars

Assuming all people of the West Coast states will go along with Cascadia is a long shot for sure. We would face significant resistance...

especially from the Central Valley.

The coast may have the economic powerhouse, but MAGA strongholds are where the food grows

1

u/staunch_character 1d ago

Trump dumping the reservoir water for a photo op should be enough for every farmer to quit MAGA.

1

u/El_Zarco 1d ago

especially from the Central Valley

Hell, even from Silicon Valley considering some of Trump's recent donors. Also what would our defenses be like if your former country decides to use the secession as an excuse to just invade us?

3

u/MTB_SF 1d ago

The Cascades start pretty far north in California at Mount Shasta. Maybe Pacifica instead? Cascadia does have a nice ring to it though.

2

u/Key-Salt9329 1d ago

How about an NCR citizenship?

2

u/thinkards America 1d ago

Cascadia to the West, Giliad to the East.

2

u/JimmyisAwkward Washington 1d ago

California is only partially in Cascadia, so I propose “Sierra-Cascadia”

2

u/Howard_Campbell 1d ago

Russia wants to Balkanize America.

4

u/JPeterBane 1d ago

I used to resist it for this reason but I've come around that on this matter, Putin and I can agree.

3

u/Ok-Chapter-2071 1d ago

As somebody from a country that was Balkanized (Slovenia), please Balkanize. Helped our country heaps and now we're on track to beat Italy in GDP per capita. We were also able to avoid wars that kept some other more conservative Balkanized countries in the dark ages.

1

u/Level_Ad_6372 1d ago

Honestly just trim out the deep south and we're gucci. No balkanization necessary.

1

u/ataraxiaPDX 1d ago

I'm seeing A LOT of red state license plates in the PDX recently. More than usual.

1

u/Ormendahl 1d ago

Russia would LOVE a split-up U.S. Just saying.

1

u/DumDumDog 1d ago

Calcascadia ....

1

u/MasonDvorakGrimes 1d ago

This is the way. May the future shine bright from the Golden Coast of the southwest to the Emerald forests of the PNW!

1

u/forceghost187 1d ago

Fun to think about but…we won the civil war. No way we are going to be the ones to secede

1

u/Vitruvian_Link 1d ago

Just be careful crossing Jeffersonian country!

1

u/Starlightriddlex 1d ago

Can we pre-order

1

u/Mister_Brevity 1d ago

Washcaliforegon

1

u/feartheoldblood90 1d ago

As desperately as I want this, it doesn't seem very feasible without full-scale civil war. Which it would be nice to avoid. But idk, if it comes to that, it comes to that, it's not like I'm not in favor of getting out from under this pseudo-fascist oligarchical hellscape

1

u/Slyfox00 1d ago

Can you imagine? In a heartbeat.

1

u/foojlander 1d ago

It costs thousands of dollars, takes years, and you're still on the hook for taxes for the following 5 years. I would've done it years ago if this wasn't the case.

1

u/Hurtin93 1d ago

You can have your Cascadia, but you can’t have our BC.

1

u/OreoSpeedwaggon 1d ago

I'll be headed to Denver to join up with the Colorado Defense Forces.

1

u/puroloco22 1d ago

Russia's wet dream

1

u/Bronstone Canada 1d ago

BC, Yukon want to stay in Canada. But, some kind of cultural, economic links with the region of Cascadia would be awesome. Not a political union, but friends with benefits lol

1

u/hoffsta 1d ago

Cascadia is a cool concept but we’d be much stronger and more resilient with all of Cali attached. More of a Pacifica, if you will.

1

u/Offensivewizard 11h ago

Crimson 1 sends his regards lmao

1

u/rockhardcatdick 11h ago

Oh lordy, are us West Coast Cascadians going to secede? I'm okay with it.

1

u/bassbeatsbanging 9h ago

Smells Like Teen Spirit will be the national anthem.

u/Ro8ertStanford 1d ago

Pathetic name
