The most frequently asked question in this subreddit is some variation of “I’m thinking of moving to Prince George, what is it like/which neighbourhood should I choose/is there anything to do?”
In an effort to cut down on these posts AND provide a helpful bunch of information, I’m starting this thread for tips/tricks/recommendations/warnings.
Here’s the idea: I’m going to put a few links below, as well as some topics that might be useful but I don’t personally have the answers to (such as resources for finding a place to rent).
I’m also going to start a few threads for top-level topics, such as neighbourhoods and best ofs, and people can post their responses there.
You can add your own answers/advice as top-level comments. Please try and search before commenting in order to avoid duplicates, and to make things are easy to search and organize.
About Prince George
Canada Games Plaza
The greater Prince George area has a population of about 86,600 people but, as the largest community for hundreds of kilometers in all directions, it tends to punch above its weight in many respects because you aren't driving into a nearby metro area for an evening's entertainment. It is a government, service and healthcare hub, home to a college and university, and has a diversified enough economy that it isn't wholly dependent on any one or two industries, though forestry remains a vital driver along with mining, oil and gas and energy activity in other northern communities. It is at the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers and has many outdoor recreation opportunities.
Prince George is built on the unceded territory of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, who are frequently partners with the city on major initiatives, including the building of the University of Northern British Columbia and hosting of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Like most mid-sized Canadian communities that boomed in the mid-20th century, Prince George is a fairly car-centric city. But with the arrival of more and more post-secondary students, people are able to get around without their own wheels. Here is a previous discussion about cars and transit in the city.
There are currently no official ride-hailing services operating in Prince George, but I’ll try to update when that changes.
Getting To/From
For leaving town, there are two long-distance bus options. If you are headed north, east or west it is the provincially-run BC Bus North. If you’re headed south, it’s Adventure Charters
We have an international airport with multiple daily flights to Vancouver as well as regular flights to Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, Kelowna and multiple communities around the north
Back in the day, Prince George was a much more mill-based city than it is now, but the reputation of a certain odour… lingers. You can still smell the industrial activity in certain parts of town and under certain circumstances, but there have been dramatic improvements in industry standards in recent decades. If you’d like to learn more you can read up at the Prince George Air Quality Improvement Roundtable or jump to the official thread discussing it.

I came to PG a few times when I was younger, a long time ago, and recently I thought it would be cool to get my hands on a PG Cougars cap. I've looked on ebay and other sites but there's really no options unfortunately. I also looked on the official merch store website but didn't really like any of the designs to be honest.
So I know it's a super duper long shot but if anyone has one lying around that they'd be willing to sell to a clueless Englishman then please let me know. Postage etc would be covered of course.
Hey everyone! I’m looking to join a local soccer team. I play as a center midfielder and absolutely love the game. If anyone knows of any teams looking for players or has recommendations, feel free to reach out! I’m passionate about soccer and eager to join a team and improve my skills thanks.
I recently relocated to Prince George BC Canada from Nigeriain west Africa, I am a plumber that is looking for where to work as apprentice and learn Canadian plumbing codes.
Anyone out there currently in or recently graduated from UNBCs MSW program? I have been offered a spot and have some questions if you’re willing to help!
Hey all. Does anyone know of a good vet clinic taking new patients?
My cat is 3 1/2 years old now so I am looking to start getting her yearly check ups and making sure she’s healthy. I’ve been struggling to find a decent place that is accepting new patients, so any help is appreciated :)
We moved here in August 24, had to have insurance on house to purchase. We had no idea who in pg was good,so we just picked one and got our insurance, no problem, Westland insurance. Since then, we bought a new tractor, which has to be insured. So we call Westland, tell them we want to insure tractor. We send them all the info they ask for. They send back a thing for us to sign electronically. I'm just about to sign when I notice the address is wrong, im not signing insurance papers that don't have our address. We went back and forth over a month, 3 times they sent papers to sign with wrong information on it. We finally gave up and went there in person, 30 minutes each way. Naturally, the 1 we were dealing with wasn't in that day, but one working said, "Oh yes, i see it's wrong. I'll let her know. That was January. They called last week, left message to call them, which we did that day, left message. Nothing back from them.
So we are looking for new insurance, does anyone have a recommendation, someone that does their job. We've had house insurance for 40 years, never had problems like this. And if you are reading this because you need insurance, i can recommend which one not to get.
I'm super upset, I ordered something for myself I really wanted and saved up for for a while, thats also been discontinued. Today canada post marked it as delivered, and they never even showed up to my house. I was home all day, and have a yappy little dog that barks even at someone just breathing outside. I also have a gate that someone goes through to deliver every package, ever.
No one has shown up to my house. I put in a ticket, I've spoke with someone at canada post and she is sure someone took it to the wrong address.
By some chance of a god damn miracle, if anyone got a package by mistake in the connaught area, please DM me and we can go back and forth with details to make sure it is the right one. Please ask your friends in the area if you can.
Hello, my pet rabbit died recently and i don’t know what to do with the remains. I have looked in the pg bylaws and don’t see any rules stating I can’t bury him in my backyard, but would that be discourteous to my neighbours? I see there’s a pet memorial service, but it’s feels extravagant for the little guy. Would it be better to go for a drive and bury him in the woods somewhere? Has anyone used the memorial service, and is it reasonably priced?
I was wondering if y’all would know if the prices of the liquor sold in stores differs or is pretty standard across. I usually go to the one by the mall or costless and the former does seem more expensive but I’m not too sure
I’ve been looking for a second job as I’m not getting near enough hours at my current job, and have pretty open availability. I’ve been working since I was 15 (I’m 19), I’ve had two different jobs and I tend to stay at a job for a long time (evidently).
Despite this I haven’t gotten a single call back… I have a pretty solid resume with certifications (selling it right, serving it right, and food safe). I’ve applied on indeed and gone into tons of places in person to apply. I notice a lot of places will hire high schoolers, etc, and it’s really frustrating. I always drop off resumes irl, dressed pretty nicely. Anybody got any ideas/suggestions?
The City launched a parking survey today to understand how the downtown and hospital parking zones could be improved. We want to know your concerns and experiences with parking - whether you park on the street, in a parkade, or a surface lot like the one by the Canfor Leisure Pool. The survey is open now until April 30. Get more information and take the survey here: princegeorge.ca/parkingstudy

Anybody know where you buy nicotine pouches in PG? I tried one place where I know they sell them but wouldn’t sell to me because I don’t have a VIP card and didn’t buy when they weren’t so regulated.
Looking for some dog-friendly walking spots in Lower College Heights! I’d love to hear where you take your pups in the area—bonus points if it’s scenic, has a bit of nature, and feels safe. Preferably trails or spots that are actually in Lower College Heights (not just nearby). Drop your go-to routes, hidden gems, or even just loops you enjoy around the neighborhood!
I fly out of PG but can only get dropped off late the night before flying. I've called the airport and they've confirmed they close a bit after midnight.
What are options for somewhere to hang out safely overnight? Air bnb doesn't have much that's cheap. Hard to justify paying a bunch of money to stay somewhere for 6 hours or less.
