Beginner I give up on shrimp

Post image
281 Upvotes

The first seven shrimps that I got died off one by one within the span of two weeks. Got everything out, started over, let the tank cycle, finally tried again.

Three weeks ago, I got ten new ones. They seemed to be doing better. I found two (or was it three?) during the first five days or so. At first I could count the ones remaining. Then I could spot less and less, but didn’t find any dead ones so assumed the ones I didn’t see were just hiding.

Today I found a perfect molt. And just a moment later, I spotted a dead shrimp. For days and days I’ve never seen more than four shrimp, so I guess I might be down to only three now?

GH: 9 KH: 9 PH: 7,6

I’ve tried to get the parameters right, but I guess it’s not enough.

I feel so bad for my lil guys, and with that I give up. I’ll try to keep the ones left alive, but I’m not gonna get any new ones.

Thanks for reading my rant, over and out. 🫡

Looking to keep my lines pure - added regular ole RCS to my tank a while back and it’s taking a hit on my quality but have started to cull.

What grade would you say this gal is?

Shrimp Memes They're Getting Ideas

I'm not a shrimp-wrangler; this subreddit was suggested to me purely by chance a couple of months ago, and I have quietly enjoyed the meme content since.

Wanted to alert you all that it looks like these guys may be collaborating with their more aquatic cousins.

Beginner new to all this

ok im a complete beginner here. ive have many reptiles, bugs, and mammals but never anything aquatic. im wanting to start with some red cherry shrimp, neon tetras, and 1 or 2 sunburst diving beetles. and maybe a snail or 2 but in not sure what kind. im planning on using monte carlo, java fern, hornwort, and maybe some water wisteria. planning on starting with a 5 gallon tank, probably a long one. ive done some basic research but im feeling a little overwhelmed with all the imfo online. i would love some advice on how to start as someone who knows nothing about keeping aquatic plants and animals please :)

Help: Emergency How long before I should start worrying about this?

Not actually an emergency, I don't think, but it was the closest tag to what I needed.

10 gallon tank, fairly heavily planted, containing roughly ten cherry shrimp at last count to the best of my counting ability. Also some nerite snails and a betta but they're not the problem children here.

I have not seen a single shrimp in a literal week. Nobody is stuck in the filter, the betta has never been interested in them as a food source (so I kind of doubt he's started now, plus I feed him every morning), and all the other plants and inhabitants of the tank are happy and healthy so it seems unlikely that all the shrimp and ONLY the shrimp have suddenly all gone and died on me. But my shrimp have never vanished on me like this before. There's always been at least one cleaning around, and now there's just radio silence.

So. Is this normal for shrimp, and somehow I'm only just now experiencing it and stressing over nothing? Or is this something I need to stress more about?

Help: Beginner Looking to start a 20 gallon tank

Hi guys,

I'm looking to start a 20 gallon community tank that's primarily focused on neocaridinas. My partner would like to have some other fish to populate the upper portion of the tank.

I've never kept shrimp before (besides sea monkeys lol) and would like your suggestions.

I'm thinking of populating with; 10 neos 6-10 tetras or celestial pearl danios 2 mystery snails

Would the tank be able to support any other tank mates or should I focus on one school? Also, should I establish the fish or the shrimps first?

This project won't be started any time soon, I'm still in the process of researching, etc. So this isn't crucial.

I have some cherry shrimp, and a couple blue ones, but also some wild-type. I don't breed them for selling and mostly just enjoy watching them. A while ago I realized I had some low quality blue shrimp (second photo);that appeared seemingly from nowhere because I haven't owned any in a long time. And now a couple days ago I realized a red rili, but instead of having the clear body they normally do it's bright blue. I just thought this was mildly interesting and wanted to share with you guys but I was also wondering how this could happened. Oh, and by the way, sorry for the low quality photos. They show the colors pretty accurately but they're pretty blurry.

Discussion Can opae ula shrimp breed in freshwater? I saw someone say on tiktok that they did. Maybe they were trolling

I’ve heard they are way more hardy and sustain themselves easier. They are smaller though I think.

Beginner Will shrimp hide from predators?

I just added two blue shrimp to my community Betta tank yesterday hoping to help clean some Algae off my plants. Well I woke up to my bettas tummy looking suspiciously full and I can only find one shrimp. Said shrimp seems to be hiding? Do you think he is aware his friend was eaten?

Discussion How important is TDS for Caridina?

I have some Boa caridina and I keep having deaths every few days. All parameters are in line with what they’re supposed to be. The only thing I can find that might be a problem is that my TDS is 93. Everywhere I read says that the TDS should be at least 100. My GH is 5. I’m remineralizing RODI water with Salty Shrimp GH. If I remineralize to at least 100, it pushes my GH to about 7, which is on the higher end for Boas. My question is rather or not I should care about the TDS level or only care about the GH level.

This is a ghost shrimp living in a tank with natural plants and black substrate. This is the only one to change color like this but is also the biggest one. Measuring well past 1 inch. Also missing part of the tail so ive moved it to a hospital tank
