Look what made it to Ukraine

A couple weeks ago I posted about getting a Vermont flag sent to Ukraine. Well, look what arrived with a lovely care package (with a mythosaur because medics are nerds and I've been called out).

This flag, along with the Green Mtn Boys flag that is being sent, will be entering combat in my medbag. I'll have all the boys on mission sign it, and auction it off to raise funds for the cause.

I'll get the wrinkles from travel out, and fold it, then to the front it goes.

Thank you again Vermont, and a particular thank you to the lovely couple. I have the new socks on and the lidocaine patches are already being argued over.

Tell Trump we will not comply with anti-DEI orders!

In January, President Trump signed executive orders ending DEI programs within the federal government and cutting funds for DEI initiatives. The administration has argued that DEI programs violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

On Friday, April 4th, Vermont superintendents received communication from Secretary of Education Zoie Saunders, informing them of the requirement to sign a certification letter proving that they are complying with Trump’s directive by Thursday, April 10th. New York, Maine and Massachusetts have already taken a hard stance and refused to sign the agreement. Now is the time for Vermont to do the same!

How you can help:

  • Attend the protest happening at Secretary Saunders’ office on Wednesday, 4/9 (time TBA)

  • Call or write to:

Governor Scott: 802- 828- 3333

Secretary Saunders: 802- 828- 1130

Your representatives: https://legislature.vermont.gov/people/

Tell them you want Secretary Saunders to withdraw her request that districts sign the form. Requesting an additional signature is redundant and implies noncompliance where none exists. She should be following the examples set by New York, Maine and Massachusetts and standing up for our most vulnerable students!!

Props to VT Lt Gov John Rodgers - Showing Up for Montpelier Rally

We need more of this. Left vs Right Right vs Wrong!

“As a Republican who supports women’s rights, the LBGTQ community, local farmers and loggers, our manufacturers and other great Vermont businesses, the free press, the United States Constitution and the rule of law, I am appalled at what the Trump administration is doing to our state and our country,” Rodgers said, according to his notes, provided to VTDigger by a 50501 organizer. “It is time that the Republicans in Congress stand up for their constituents instead of following the will of their president.”

I picked up this trash on a short walk with my kids. 85% of it was alcohol bottles and cans...

I live on a backroad in central Vermont and I try to pick up litter when I go for walks. I only made it like 1/4 of a mile before my kids ran out of patience but I picked up 17 bottles and cans, 15 of them were alcoholic beverage containers.

Sidenote: the Gatorade bottle appeared to be full of chewing tabaco spit and the Red Bull can was made into a pipe so it seems the bad habits are stacking.

I definitely need to walk more because I am not keeping up with the litter.

Clearly, the $0.05 deposit isn't doing the trick here. Neither to discourage littering or to encourage delittering. I don't bother to redeem these but if we had a $1.00 deposit on alcoholic beverage containers I sure would and our roadsides would be a lot cleaner. This would be like $15.10!

So, I'd vote for $1 deposits in VT. #1deposits

What are people seeing on their roads?

Backroad haul: $15.10!

Brattleboro, VT (pop. 12k) drew crowds estimated 2k today, despite the rain! U.S. Rep. Becca Balint spoke at the protest, and it was announced by another speaker to be the largest protest our town has ever seen.

Pretty good turnout considering the amount of Trump flags around here. It was energizing to see how many people care enough to brave the rain and cold.

The article on VT Digger suggests 10K, but that figure comes from a protest organizer. Any other more neutral sources saying how many were there? Thanks.

Hi Vermont. Thank you for being you.

I don’t live in VT but I lurk on this sub in the winter because I ski and you’ve got the closest good stuff. There are a lot of posts today from all over the country from mass protests and mobilizations and crowds in the tens of thousands, and I wanted to pop in and acknowledge that y’all were there before anyone else was.

I’m never gonna forget that this all started with a bunch of ski bums near Sugarbush holding up signs calling JD Vance a Jerry, and neither should the rest of America. Big thanks to your brave little state for being the hope we all needed in a dark time.

Vermont National Forests

Upvotes

I’m wondering if the recent changes to national forests logging is going to affect the national forests in Vermont.

I’m going to call the Green Mountain Forest Service this week and see if I can get more information.
