Time to not buy jack shit for 4 years.

Puts. Buy puts

367

u/tgaccione Mar 03 '25

The only problem is this is clear market manipulation and he could tweet tomorrow about how the tariffs aren’t going through, causing a pump. Or a million other dumb things.

Yes, but that's the thrill.

Different alcohol.

1

u/mrbnlkld Mar 04 '25

Buy more while you can afford it and it is still cheap.

5

u/Snichs72 Mar 03 '25

This is what I’m convinced he’s doing. I mean, he’s in the ultimate position in the world to enrich himself. Not only can he receive billions from folks like Putin, but like those in Congress, he has free rein to insider trade. PLUS, even more than that, he more than anyone in the world, has the ability to manipulate the market to his benefit. He can tank it and buy things on the cheap, he can manipulate and rug pull crypto, he can funnel money through Musk’s businesses by handing them billions in government contracts, and probably a whole host of other things that are beyond my knowledge. He truly has nothing to lose this term, so if he pulls out all the stops (not giving a damn the impact on the rest of the world) he could go from piddly $4-5 billion net worth to surpassing Musk in wealth.

3

u/michaelt2223 Mar 03 '25

He might just be manipulating the market. But the tariffs China will announce to combat this will happen. They’ll likely target farms again

3

u/27Rench27 Mar 03 '25

Oh shit that explains the tweet about farmers needing to get ready to export to Americans or whatever. Even he knows the next trade war is gonna hit agriculture exports to other countries

2

u/michaelt2223 Mar 03 '25

Yeah cause the last time he tariffed China they immediately went after farms China knows that’s where elections are lost in America. They know the videos of farmers crying cause their family farm is being destroyed or foreclosed on

2

u/judge_mercer Mar 04 '25

Not to worry. Last time he bailed out farmers to the tune of $65 billion (which was more than the revenue raised by the tariffs).

1

u/michaelt2223 Mar 04 '25

Also it all went to the bigger farm corporations and not the smaller family farms. Hopefully now we can finally stop subsiding corn for no reason

3

u/redassedchimp Mar 04 '25

Yes Trump will let his cronies know in private before he switches course, so they can profit from the huge moves. He's pumping and dumping using the entire US economy. Remember, he still owes the hedge funds guys and this is how he'll pay them back.

1

u/meshreplacer Mar 03 '25

SPY Thetagang will be getting obese again.

1

u/bandy_mcwagon Mar 03 '25

He did actually sign this one, no?

1

u/Live-Implement9142 Mar 03 '25

ya its officially signed. don't know what OP and the upvoters are smoking

1

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '25

Yeah. That’s how I see it playing out.

Anyone trying to time this shit is going to lose their minds. I sold back when Putin started threatening nuclear war (and figured Trump’s tariffs would eventually scare the stock market).

Bought back in during December in a mild correction and I’m way worse off now.

1

u/zamundan Mar 05 '25

"US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that President Donald Trump could announce a trade deal with Mexico and Canada as soon as tomorrow, just one day after the US imposed punishing tariffs on the two nations and sparked retaliatory levies."

Puts and inverse ETFs.

All of them.

20

u/YaBoii____ Mar 03 '25

what are inverse ETFs?

97

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

Oh you pure, pure little soul.

Wait until you learn about 3x leveraged inverse ETFs

27

u/_TheWileyWombat_ Mar 03 '25

Bought a bunch of those at the beginning of Covid expecting to make some money when everything crashed. Sold them at a loss a few months ago

30

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

What was the game plan exactly? You're supposed to offload those as soon as the wind changes.

12

u/_TheWileyWombat_ Mar 03 '25

I totally expected the economy to fully shit the bed due to a global pandemic. Imagine my surprise when it dipped a little at first only to recover and keep climbing.

10

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25 edited Mar 03 '25

damn that's some bold prediction that backfired heavily

are you going to try again now for the tariffs/KGB/measles combo?

9

u/otter111a Mar 03 '25

When I bought 3x leveraged index funds and held them I got a warning saying they’re really not supposed to be held. They’re really supposed to be day traded.

6

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

The more volatile the market, the truer.

But if it goes straight up or straight down for a couple days, you're making bank.

3

u/LowHangingFrewts Mar 03 '25

TMF all day baby. (I know it's not actually inverse)

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

holy shit 15% over last month is really good, one of the best bet out there with TSDD.

2

u/Heliosvector Mar 03 '25

I can has 3 GPU companies for price of one?

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

you lose your house and have to work 3x shift at Wendy's

that, my friend, is the true magic of leveraged etfs

2

u/Heliosvector Mar 03 '25

Jokes on you. I have no home. I'm a millennial

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

you'll be out of job too when DOGE come knockin at your tent

1

u/Heliosvector Mar 03 '25

I'm Canadian. It ain't doge I have to worry about.

3

u/Bobby_Bouch Mar 03 '25

Just buy SQQq

2

u/Mental-ish Mar 04 '25

A scam. It’s basically a ETF that holds options only. When they start to decay they end up losing money. It’s only to hold for 1 day and eventually they all will need up becoming worthless same as with leveraged ETFs. With leveraged ETFs when the market crashes the price goes to zero. The same thing happens with inverse ETFs but when the market goes on a bull run. I say you’re better off holding the options yourself

1

u/OneGoodRing Mar 03 '25

See: Direxion

6

u/ofcourseIwantpickles Mar 04 '25

This sub is refreshing, over in r/investing they all like "don't time the market, it's JUST politics".

8

u/QwertyPolka Mar 04 '25

I mean, they ARE right most of the time, it just so happens that this current combination of events is quite distressing.

And outside of historical readiness, they are heavily incentivized in bolstering each other as every sale lowers the value of their holdings.

4

u/ofcourseIwantpickles Mar 04 '25

100%. Train is coming right at us, horns blaring. Diamond hands will get you destroyed. I’m 90% cash, any ETF’s you prefer to short the market?

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 04 '25

I like the modern classics.

TSDD because Tesla is rightfully going straight to hell.

MSTZ because cryptos are a greater fool scheme but this is INCREDIBLY volatile at times.

SPXU for a relatively stress-free ride (I also enjoy its 1x and 2x leveraged kin)

and YINN/YANG, albeit I'm waiting to see how they react to the tariffs down there before I get back on that ride.

1

u/ofcourseIwantpickles Mar 04 '25

Thank you. In heaven, there ain't no beer.

3

u/Holyrain101 Mar 03 '25

Calls on 3x leveraged inverse ETFs

4

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

This will buy us many Wendys' and even more dumpsters behind them

2

u/tothemoonandback01 Mar 04 '25

I miss the simple days when all we had to do was inverse Cramer.

u/KevionTheAlician Mar 03 '25 edited Mar 03 '25

Puts. Buy puts

Bonds. James bonds

3

u/United_States_ClA Mar 03 '25

This is seeing hundreds of upvotes in less than an hour.

Looks like it's time for calls

2

u/Retrobot1234567 Mar 03 '25

I’m not selling any more puts. NO WAY.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Rip5952 Mar 03 '25 edited Mar 03 '25

I am looking at selling puts

1

u/bandy_mcwagon Mar 03 '25

Is puts a thing I can just buy on Robinhood or do I have to have real money for them

1

u/MyCatIsAnActualNinja Mar 03 '25

They'll be so expensive

1

u/CazualGinger Mar 04 '25

What are you buying? Genuinely asking.

Had the same thought immediately. I'm not a true WSBer, I mainly just buy VTI like a scrub dollar cost averaging but I like me options too

2

u/chainer3000 Mar 04 '25

Anything that can’t live up to its forward p/e in the next 6 months, that is also outside of trump direct orbit. I saved myself by switching from rocket lab calls to puts, spy calls to puts, archer calls to puts, quantum stock puts, etc etc

If the bull run ain’t over it’s definitely on pause. I’m probably gunna pick up some more short dated spy puts on Friday because trump loves doing shit over the weekend at like midnight before Monday

1

u/Klaus_Poppe1 Mar 04 '25

"buy puts" is puts a type of anti-depressant? How much?

1

u/CodAlternative3437 Mar 04 '25

why would i buy strokes on the green? we're down to gambling on golf games?

1

u/blackashi Mar 04 '25

Serious question. Would inflation not offset this?

103

u/TheRealTonyStonk Mar 03 '25

Toilet paper and ammo

26

u/AaronfromKY Mar 03 '25

Lawyers, guns and money like that old Warren Zevon song

4

u/catsdrooltoo Mar 03 '25

Ammo is being delivered tomorrow. Can't afford tp, have to use spent brass.

3

u/meshreplacer Mar 03 '25

Crates of this best investment ages ago lol.

1

u/My_G_Alt Mar 03 '25

Wipe my ass with the clip, tp too expensive

1

u/Mehtalface Mar 04 '25

Fuck that, I'm buying a bidet so I can buy more ammo

1

u/ta2955 Mar 04 '25

you do that but everyone loves chocolate and coffee and that shit doesn't grow here

135

u/alienstookmybananas Mar 03 '25

At this rate even treasury bonds aren't safe

108

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25 edited Mar 04 '25

I was thinking the same.

Elon: "Fraud, all fraud - we have to cancel all these fraudulent bonds. Anyway the people who get bonds are DEI communists."

6

u/_AscendedLemon_ Mar 04 '25

Let's buy EU bonds now, from "eUrOpOoRs" with love ;)

1

u/south_pole_ball Mar 04 '25

Is this something he actually said? lol

5

u/iheartmuffinz Mar 04 '25

I don't believe so but the fact that you could believe that he did says enough about the guy.

64

u/meshreplacer Mar 03 '25

If Treasury notes default there is no Stonk market. It will take at most 30 days to go Mad Max mode.

1

u/GreenTropius Mar 04 '25

I have a banker friend and I asked him what would happen if they fuck up treasury securities. He said if I am legitimately worried there is nothing to do but stock up on ammo lol.

1

u/iPigman Mar 04 '25

I do have a leather jock-strap with cute, little, chrome plated spikes that I've been dying to wear

2

u/GreenTropius Mar 04 '25

It's good to know someone is going to be dressed stylishly as the world burns, thanks.

5

u/LaserKittenz Mar 03 '25

Pork belly futures is where its at! Get with the times.

2

u/Whaddaulookinat Mar 04 '25

Lean Hogs!!!

6

u/-Johnny- Mar 04 '25

That's a sad day huh. I have 10 year, 6% interest bonds and worried they won't get paid now.

23

u/alienstookmybananas Mar 04 '25

buddy I'm sorry to tell you but the inmates are now in charge of the asylum, a lot of shit is about to not get paid, not as long as the Kings of Not Paying Shit™ are in Washington. I was gonna go to school and apply for pell grants but at this point I'm not sure there'll be any pell grants left

10

u/-Johnny- Mar 04 '25

I mean my little 10k in bonds won't matter for shit if the US stops paying it's bills. That will literally be the end of the US dollar

4

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Mar 04 '25

Gold bars from Costco might be the best play.

2

u/mischling2543 Mar 04 '25

I bought $300 of silver last week should've gone all in

62

u/Katnisshunter Mar 03 '25

I think trying to abolish federal income tax and move to consumption tax. More tax burden on consumers.

87

u/fumar Mar 03 '25

Functional poor tax

22

u/rancid_squirts Mar 03 '25

What happens to taxes once everyone stops consuming?

40

u/Katnisshunter Mar 03 '25

You design the game so you are required to consume.

6

u/trwawy05312015 Mar 03 '25

they are trying to make the whole country a factory town

2

u/haruSPICYhyrax Mar 04 '25

Who knows what would actually happen, but I saw mention that there would a sales/consumption tax credit for people below a certain income threshold. Not sure how that is tracked with the IRS abolished.

1

u/meridianblade Mar 04 '25

They will just change they S from Service to Serfdom.

1

u/a_f_s-29 26d ago

Great for the environment lol

129

u/SpruceJuice5 Mar 03 '25

As a europoor, our markets might be some use now. We're actually doing quite well, especially the German DAX

73

u/General-Woodpecker- Mar 03 '25

I moved my money in Europe lol I guess that quite a lot of us are doing the same thing. The NYSE is basically acting like the cryptomarket now.

8

u/BeeBopBazz Mar 03 '25

lol, same. My 401k is 70% stable assets and 30% European assets for the foreseeable future. To my eye the US market isn’t correctly reflecting what is going to happen and the southeast Asian funds are going to be destroyed when China is allowed to invade Taiwan.

5

u/jm31828 Mar 04 '25

My 401K has been on fire the last few years, but now I fear losing a lot of that growth. I am 48, so I have some time yet until retirement, but need to look into whether I need to move mine to stable assets for a while because I don't trust that this guy isn't dead set on destroying everything before he's out of office.

11

u/TendieRetard Mar 03 '25

wait until 🥭finds out and puts a tariff on you.

1

u/Fluffy_Monk777 Mar 03 '25

How do I go about trading in those markets vs US markets?

-13

u/RepresentativeNew132 Mar 03 '25

europoor

Imagine calling yourself this to get respect from Americans lmao. Fucking pathetic and sad. Have some pride

24

u/MoeSauce Mar 03 '25

Buy VIX calls dated for some time over the summer

8

u/Veredus66 Mar 03 '25

What strike?

14

u/MoeSauce Mar 03 '25

Check out the open interest for 42.5 on 6/18, someone thinks it's a good idea

6

u/Veredus66 Mar 03 '25

Sheesh. Now I'm thinking this seems too obvious 😂 but if he's going through with Chinese tariffs, I think it's green signal to get them..

6

u/MoeSauce Mar 03 '25

Raise the strike, buy when low, roll it if it hasn't hit a candle by May, dump if SPY goes back above 600. Treat it as a hedge if you want while you trade as you normally would.

3

u/qopprodigy Mar 03 '25

What’s the reasoning behind this?

6

u/MoeSauce Mar 03 '25

VIX is a 30 day measure of volatility which derives it's value from the prices of options on SPX. Essentially, it exists as a way to hedge against price drops on the S&P 500. For the regards, when market move fast, VIX go up.

3

u/Hot_Frosting_7101 Mar 04 '25

What is the advantage of VIX calls vs SPY puts?

3

u/MoeSauce Mar 04 '25

Insane volatility. Take a look at the chart. It can move upwards incredibly rapidly. Wait for black swan event and watch closely. It would move too fast to reliably time on a day trade, so that's why I'm long.

3

u/Nyx87 Mar 04 '25

what ticker do you use for VIX?

1

u/MoeSauce Mar 04 '25

VIX is the ticker? You can also play SVXY which inverses VIX

2

u/Nyx87 Mar 04 '25

hmmm I mainly do options on robinhood which only has other VIX tickers like VIXY. What broker do you use?

1

u/MoeSauce Mar 04 '25

Robinhood

1

u/Nyx87 Mar 04 '25

huh, i can't seem to pull that up on RH.

1

u/Nyx87 Mar 04 '25

found it, seems the desktop version really doesn't want to pull it up.

2

u/pumpkin_spice_enema Mar 04 '25

Most regarded leader shooting the economy in the gut with 20% tariffs is the loudest black swan mating call. It won't be much of a wait.

3

u/pumpkin_spice_enema Mar 04 '25

If you're a broke bitch like me, it means you can spread out risk over multiple strikes instead of YOLOing on SPY because VIX is $20 something right now and SPY is $583.

18

u/Outis7379 Mar 03 '25

Those CD’s are suddenly looking a lot less stressful.

25

u/maxiums Mar 03 '25

Put your cash up to buy the ash, that’s what I’m doing. Real estate is going to be a good market soon again to buy.

53

u/Rimfighter Mar 03 '25

Who the fuck is going to be able to afford rent after this?

20

u/AnotherScoutTrooper Mar 03 '25

if you’re buying the property at a 60% discount, you can comfortably charge 30% less rent than the last landlord did

not that anyone with the money to do so ever will

10

u/maxiums Mar 03 '25

Right prices will drop but land buildings etc. good holds made a killing in 08 crash

4

u/DoGoodForGoodSake Mar 03 '25

Puts on landlords

2

3

u/Ticksdonthavelymph Mar 03 '25

Will USD still have value though vs other currencies at this rate? Shouldn’t we be buying euros?

26

u/john_dj32 Mar 03 '25

I am happy if we see another year on this planet. With executive order to take down forests, drill baby drill and what not in next months, we will cease to exist.

Campbell's soup my man
