Mother just retired. Advice?

She's basically 100% stock allocation. All mutual funds. Just retired.

She has some pension. I'm assuming the advice to give her is "just don't withdraw right now," but is it better for her to cut losses and shift to bond allocation?

I'm assuming not. I told her I would ask around but that it's probably best to just weather the storm if she can afford not to draw down her retirement fund.

The Red Recession appears to be on the verge of happening. Who will red state conservatives blame for this recession?

With respect I think that’s part of the problem. “I don’t want to agree with <person> because <person> is bad.”

We used to discuss ideas. At least I thought we did.

I miss Canada. Curling is fun. Used to pop across the border for lunch.

How many people do you need in the same room to have a greater than 50% chance that two share a birthday?

  1. 23 people. It’s called the Birthday Problem in cryptography

Log in to one of their accounts to grab their address. Send them flowers.

“Thanks for the wonderful time. Miss you. Xoxo.”

Don’t say who it’s to. Don’t say who it’s from.

Are they actually detaining people entering the USA at the airports?

The website is literally called “workaway.”

I’m not defending the “horrible conditions,” but I spent most of my adult life overseas. You don’t break the terms of your visa. Period. No exceptions. It’s a quick way to jail and deportation in any country.

Edit to add: I had a friend who was carrying a pocket knife while visiting Japan. By American standard, the knife was Completely normal. By Japanese standards, it was highly illegal.

He spent 10 days in Japanese jail before being required to leave the country. There’s a lot less schoolyard rules in Japanese jail than there is an American jail, From what I understand. But man, oh man, it was not a pleasant experience that he relayed.

Don’t break the law when you’re visiting a foreign country. It will always end badly. You will always be treated like a second class citizen because in that country’s eyes you literally are.

Trump administration asked to explain after Australian universities told to justify US-funded research grants

Yeah. As an American, I can personally attest that they all suck.

Is Australia taking applications for reasonable and level headed engineers? I’d like to apply.
